2014 H.T. Cannabis Cup - Denver

In 2014, HIGH TIMES will return to the Mile High City for our fourth event. Our first two events in Denver were Medical Cannabis Cups, restricted to medical patients only. But Colorado voters legalized adult, recreational use of marijuana in the 2012 election, which resulted in our most successful Cannabis Cup ever. We now host the U.S. Cannabis Cup, an event open to all adults.

Tix and more info available here: http://www.medcancup.com/

First time going to a Cup. Just got my tickets and have no idea where to stay, what to expect, etc.
This is my pilgrimage to Mecca. I may only have one chance to do it right. So maybe the FC community can help others like myself with ideas on where to stay, or any tours available, anything and everything Denver Cup related. I know it's early, but with the recreational apsect to Denver, things may fill up quickly.
Hope any locals may be able to chime in here as well. Where to stay, places to visit, restaurants, anything that may help with the overall experience is welcome. Also maybe things to avoid/not do while attending the Cup.

Hope this can be a nice little resource for those attending the Denver Cannabis Cup.

Well, tickets are almost sold out. Singles day tickets are the only ones available currently. I am trying to see if any FC members from Denver area may weigh in on good hotels to stay at. Cleanliness is a must, 420 friendly would be a bonus. Any recomendations, good or bad, are very welcome. Over the hill, here so not looking for hip so much as comfort, but I definitely want to be close to the fray.

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

Hooray!! Someone finally replied to this thread other than me. lol
Welcome

I ditched the package tour idea, and am now looking at house rentals for the week.
Feel free to send me a PM if anyone here might have rental property near the downtown Denver area.
Or if anyone has experiences with certain rental properties or companies, please share them.

I'll be there. Prob going to score the Snoop VIP tix since last year the VIP line was worth it alone.

I really hope they moved to the Denver Mart to fix their capacity issues they had last year. It was a joke, and the only funny part was that everybody was completely stoned.

The worst part - I have 0% interest in watching hip hop for several hours, so I guess I'm paying the extra $ for the VIP perks of quicker entry to the cup. I'm sure it won't be hard to sell or trade my tickets to the Snoop snow, though.

After attending the 710 cup I told myself I wasn't going to attend the HT Cannabis Cup since it was such a joke compared the the 710 cup, and HT has been doing this for 20 years...

But alas, I'm a fucking stoner who needs to use his paid vacation and Cloudkicker is playing in Denver on April 23rd, and nowhere in IL... so it just had to happen.

I really just need to move to CO already. I have spent my past 4 4/20's in Denver

If you're is looking for a good hotel with a balcony in every room, check out the Holiday Inn in Stapleton. It's a real quick drive to downtown Denver, and especially to the Denver Mart, where the Cannabis Cup is held. I dabbed like a mofo in that room!

Price is decent at $71/night as well. Not many other options for hotels with balconies, and the warwick cost a fortune and was booked months ago. A good tip is to package and send any clean vapes/pens/nails/rigs that you want with you to the hotel. The Holiday Inn had no issue's with me sending myself a package of paraphernalia(legal in CO) and also receiving a replacement dabbler battery from VaporWarehouse(Thanks guys!!). Better than driving or flying with the stuff, IMO.

You could always find a hotel with smoking rooms, but this is fuckcombustion and we don't play those sort of games now, do we?

Don't forget to go on a hike!

I also am not sure if I'll make it to the snoop show, more did it for the VIP. While I love snoop for who he is, a goofie fun guy, it's not necessarily my scene. I saw Atmosphere there 2 years back, and that's a bit more my scene.
Gotta say though, Snoop @Red Rock on 420 will be a pretty awesome experience whether you like snoop or not.
Red Rocks is an EPIC venue that everyone should try to experience if they have the chance.
Good looking on the hotel, don't think I need one but if I do that sounds good.

Last year I went as part of a group of three people. Two of us paid for the VIP tix, the other got the standard 2 day.

We arrived at the cup shortly before 11am when the doors opened. At that time we found ourselves walking around the entire complex(several blocks large) trying to find the vip line. We did find the vip line, hidden inside the regular line, which literally went completely around the building in a giant circle. It was hard to find out where the damn line even started or ended.

So we prob got into the VIP line around 11:20 and then it was another good 30 min wait to get inside. Our buddy got in a good 2 hours after us.

The crowds were insane. On Sat, we left a little before 4:20 and came back before they closed at 6 and it was like a ghost town then. I would just stand in a 3 person line for a dab(earlier the lines were way longer), take one, and then get back in line. I lost count after 23 or so dabs within the last hour of the cup. That seemed to good to be true or to happen again.

Here is a photo I took pretty shortly after getting inside and over to the recreational smoking area. This was a very light crowd compared to the rest of the day(s). Keep in mind, most of the people you see are VIP. Most of the general crowd had not gotten in yet.

You can see how it's all fenced in. There was only one way in, one way out. Horrible set up. The most popular part of the cup, was of course the most crowded, and the most confined.

Good thing it's a crowd of stoners. Everyone still had fun and a lot of "sorry" and "my bad" was said.

They also don't let you bring water in, and very few booths provided water, and if you wanted to buy one I couldn't tell you where you would find it, nor how long the line would be. I did "sneak" in a camelbak in my backpack. The "security" was more interested in the torch and rig I guess.

It sure is. I enjoyed hiking it, but I've yet to have the opportunity to have a musical act that I enjoy play there. Some day...

What's up with bringing "utensils" and meds in?
Could I put a power pack (battery/inverter combo) in a back pack and bring my Evo with me?
Something like this:

That's a good question. I'm not sure on their policies for something of that caliber, but like I said, they let me in with a rig, torch, extra butane, and tons of dabs. If they saw my water though....

Last year the lines were so huge and the security was so small that they obviously were not checking as thoroughly as they should have been. I would shoot HT an email through eventbrite. I had some questions last year that were answered that way.

We're gonna have to have an FC meetup or morning wake and bake. lol:spliff:

We rented a 4br house about 11 min(according to Googly) from where the Cup is held. But I am a little confused about the Cup location. On the Medcancup.com site, it says the Cup is held at the Denver Mart, but another link I found said it was at the http://events.9news.com/Exdo_Event_Center/v284542666.html Exdo Event Center??? Can anyone clear this up by chance? Either way, I'm either 8min or 11 min away, so I feel I did pretty good for booking in an area I've never been. I was told by a disp owner(on the phone, don't know personally), that where they had the Cup lasy year, will not be the same as this year for size reasons. Don't know if true or not
Whole house for way cheaper than a hotel, if anybody hasn't booked yet, check the house/condo rental listings.

CAN'T WAIT!!

It's at the Denver Mart.

It was held at the Exdo last year, and it was much too small of a venue for the crowds that a HT event draws. From the looks of it, the Denver Mart is larger which is why I think they switched venues. Parking should be better too, basically all of the Five Points neighborhood was infested with HT attendee's last year trying to find parking

:o How?

Wondering if anyone could help out with a few suggestions for me. I am looking for a portable vape for flowers(taking a Persei/Her sr71 for concentrates) to use while at the Cup. I just DO NOT/WILL NOT combust at all. I thought maybe a Solo, but then worry about the glass tubes getting broke, and also battery life.

I then thought the Lotus maybe, I will pobably alrady have a torch for dabs(should be plenty of back up butane available there, I would think lol). I would prefer something that puts out great flavor(Lotus?!) and is relatively easy to use(sharing with others). The vape itself isn't as important as the "situation" I want to use it in.

My last portable for flowers was a Solo, and I like and respect it, but don't know if it would be the best in my scenario. I do not look for long term use, as I will probably part ways with it, after the Cup.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
Please don't read this as, "I need a portable" so much as "I need a portable for daily, heavy use at the Cup".

Im bringing my Pax to the Cup but probably will only get 4 sessions out of it. Hopefully I can find an outlet somewhere to charge it. I highly recommend the Pax but it is pricey unless you can find a used example.
