Arizer Solo

Hey everyone,

Just got my brand new Arizer solo M1E1, used it for the first few days and have loved it. Unfortunately I seem to have ran into a problem with charging and was hoping there might be someone with the same issue that might be able to help.

Basically when I plug the solo in to charge I get a double beep then the idle light will blink after which the 7 light will blink plus another double beep, this will just continue as long as the solo is plugged in, idle light - 7 light + double beep, idle light - 7 + double beep, and so on. I have been searching all day with no luck and not really find anyone with a similar problem, might have just not looked hard enough. I have also contacted Arizer and am still waiting on a response.

If anyone knows what the problem is and if there is a simple fix that would be awesome! :D

Could the Solo be already charged up fully? Are you saying that all 7 lights are lit up when you plug into charge? Even if it were fully charged you should be able to use while plugged in. Have you tried using it?
Just a suggestion, it maybe faulty. I hope not.

I thought I was having a problem the other day. I thought my Solo was fully charged and I kept trying to use it. It kept going to the idle blue button and wasn't staying heated. I put it on the charger and realized it wasn't charged up. I have 2 Solos, sometimes I need to look at the bottom to see which one I'm using.

My other one was the charged up Solo.

I know it was a few pages back but if you are breaking pvhe stems its because you are possibly stressing the screen notch or air paths which are not as solid as the rest of the thick stem that PV uses. I always take a few extra pairs of chop sticks from the thai place since they have the round ones and when I get home I stick one end in the pencil sharpener. With a sharp bamboo stick I can clear my stem easily and never have to worry about shocking or jarring the glass. I used to have an old broken ash catcher which I would hold the stem up to and blow into so the abv was caught at the bottom and the air escaped the top...worked great until my woman thought it was dirty and broken and tossed it out.

Cool. Just be careful torching the glass tube. You need to heat it evenly all around so one side doesn't expand more than the other and introduce a stress crack (which will sooner or later kill the stem). But slow and even heating is also a good plan for reclaiming this way I think?

OF

I put the flame on the low setting and evenly heat. It works very well. I don't care for iso. I also use this method to reclaim condensed sublimator vapors from downstem of my glass piece. Give it a try.

Is planetvape usually accurate with their etas on pvhes in stock dates? Also which one would you guys recommend? I usually use the stock bent one. Which screens from there are the best? I'm thinking about fine.

Ya mean for them getting more? Kinda a crapshoot, they'll go up when they get them, and usually by the time someone on here's found out they restocked some are already sold-out again for some.

As for what to recommend, I dunno. Whatever ya want? I have one of their PVHES 18mm gong stems for my tubes, and mostly use the straight stem for vaping. Bent stem for oils :)

quick edit: i have an old M1B1 model with the "restricted airflow" and I think the PVHES thins the vapor out (with extra air) just a little too much for my liking. I'll probably use it for people that don't always inhale the greens who may get throat irritation from the stupid milky rips I like pulling. If I could do it again, I'd probably just get stock (non-HES) 18mm gong instead, but I like having the option between regular airflow from stock stems and more airy hits from the gong.

Thanks for the advice. I mean as far as them saying the eta is march 6th-10th. I have the newer model and I am worried about it being to airy. Do the screens improve the flow at all on the stock stem?

original point of failure with the solo, tempature sensor wire striped itself when something caused the wire to turn red hot, which resulted in melting the insulation material. and a solo failure.

Oh yeah sorry, forgot to answer your screen question. The only way to know if you'll like it or not is to buy one (PVHES) and try it yourself or find someone locally with one. For what it's worth, I don't think you'd have much trouble selling it if you end up not liking it.

I like "standard" through "extra fine" screens. The finer it is the faster it'll clog and need cleaning.

The newer model Solo, IMO you don't need the PVHES stems to improve airflow. The airflow is much better with the larger holes in the stock stems, and the way the newer model is made. Folks may want a smaller bowl though, like the shorty PVHES or the Turbo, I still use them on my older model. I use the PVHES gongs with my new Solo. The PVHES stems will fit into my M1E1 just fine.

I did find a difference between the PVHES stems and the stock stem in the new Solo, as far as airflow goes. The airflow was more with the PVHES stems in the M1E1. IMO too much airflow for me.

I can fit my stock stem from my M1E1 into my M1A4 which is my older model Solo and the draw is tight, too tight. The stem is not wobbly.

I need the PVHES stems in my M1A4 for a better draw for me.

Quetzalcoatl: I edited some of my post I hope you notice. Then I did some editing again.

I didn't find any difference between the PVHES stems and the stock stem of my new Solo, as far as airflow goes. I can fit my stock stem from my M1E1 into my M1A4 which is my older model Solo and get better airflow just from the stem alone. It's a tight fit cold though, the fit is better hot. The stem is tighter, not wobbly.

I don't remember if anyone said that the unit itself was different to improve the airflow, I thought it was the difference in the stems. Some may want to jar my memory.
I believe there were mentions of the actual holes in the heater being bigger. I don't have a new and old model to compare to...

Up above I posted that I used my stock stem from my M1E1 in my M1A4 and the draw was tight. It's not stem alone. There is a difference in the airflow between the units. I don't know if someone had already stated that.

The PVHES stems are a very loose draw with the M1E1 than with my older model. Sometimes it comes down to personal preference, some folks might like that. Exploring different options to see what works best for you is the name of the game around here.

I did some editing on my post #24486, I was contradicting myself, too medicated I guess. Sorry for any confusion.

Well I noticed my Solo isnt heating like it used to. Even at 7 I get whispy hits and I can touch the bowl without severe pain (its hot but not that hot).

Any info on similar issues? Im thinking I need to contact PIU tomorrow..sucks because this is a replacement unit and is only 2 months old with light use.

First of all I want to thank everyone that has contributed to this thread. I am a completely rookie when it comes to weed and I couldn't have made the decision to start vaping without you guys.

I apologize for the long post but there are several things I'd like to write about. First of all, by rookie, I mean I've never tried weed in my 32 years. I'm a beer lover and have been for the better part of my life. Drinking a case or two on the weekends was a very normal occurrence in my home but it no longer goes along with my health and fitness goals. I wanted to find a healthier alternative and considering that most of my friends smoke weed, it was time to explore the possibilities.

After about a month of research my complete attitude and mentality towards weed changed. I learned more this past month about marijuana than I've "learned" the past 20 years. After reading several articles I came to the conclusion that a vsporizer was the only way for me and therefor the best option was the solo!

At first I was overwhelmed with o rings, better stems, water Things etc.... Way too much to learn at once so I just decided to stick to the basics. Used the stock stem, used the tips you guys provided and had a great session last night with my wife. Filled the "small" bowl and we too about 5-6 hits each within a 45 min period. Needless yo say, I was extremely high so here is my experience.

Started at level 3 and ended at 6. Had clouds the entire time! As far as taste goes, I can't really comment. I assume its an acquired taste? I've never done this before but it wasn't like I said "yum" afterwards. It just tasted ok...after a few hits the taste did lessen but again, I didn't really care for the taste to begin with. I realized that using everything stock was the way to go for me. I don't plan on upgrading anything at the moment and as much as I enjoyed it I will only be doing this maybe once or twice every two to three weeks. For me, it doesn't even come close to the flavor/experience of having several quality beers but I plan on trying it again and I'm sure the experiences will improve.

The mistake I think I made was smoking too much. I should have stopped after 3 hits because at 5 I lost complete control of my speech and motor skills. I also got very "slow" and hungry! I also laughed uncontrollably for no reason at all..at the end of the day, I had a good time but next time (maybe a few weeks) I'll try a lot less. Considering my wife and I split the bowl, I think I need 1/4 of the bowl to suite my needs.

The only thing that left me curious was the water thing. I hated coughing! Made me feel like I was doing my body harm and would like to avoid that. From what I read, using one of those water things can help with that. Is the D020 the way to go ? I definitely don't want to spend that much money and keep in mind its a 2 times a month type of thing for me. Also, do I need some sort of adaptes or is that all I need?

I'm very happy to have joined this community and look forward to reading and leaning more from you guys! Would love to hear some feedback on what you guys think so looking forward to reading some replies later! Thanks again!

If resetting doesn't help likely be best to get in contact with PIU.
This is where things could get interesting. How are the dealers going to handle folks that currently have PA units and want a replacement that is compatible.?

Welcome @ Kobra13.

Awesome review.

The only thing that I would recommend to you is using a domed screen in stem bowl in order reduce he volume, if you haven't done that already.

If find that if you were to put less plant material into the stem bowl loosely packed, it will not produce good vapor.

The believe that a loosely packed bowl allows too much hot air to pass by the plant matter vs pass through the plant matter.

EDIT
@ataxian, caught a mistake.

In order to use the Solo with a D020 (which has a 18mm tapered fitting), you will need to invest in a Solo to glass adapter such as this:

http://www.planetvape.ca/pvhegong-high-efficiency-gong.html

For, I would go with the shorty version.
The shortly version has a smaller bowl the a standard gong and standard stem.

I recently got my hands on the this:
http://www.planetvape.ca/pvhegong-high-efficiency-gong-female.html

This allows me to use the Solo with my mini oil rig without the use of a female to female adapter.

In all honesty, with the seldom use of the Solo.

Without spending any money.
I would suggest the following:

Connect the straight stem to the bent stem together (mouth piece parts facing each other) with tube of silicone or even tape them together.

Then load up the straight stem bowl as you usually would (hopefully with a domed screen to reduce your load), in now you your bowl from the bent stem becomes the end that you draw from.

The extended air path will dramatically reduce the heat of the vapor which is the root cause to your coughing.

It is a cost effective way to extend your air path while keeping it all glass.

Kids today!

But seriously....welcome to FC, welcome to vaping (you picked an excellent vape for beginners and vets alike), welcome to the global appreciation society for God's little miracle plant. Good times await.

Thanks! I'm really glad I gave this a shot and look forward to good times ahead! Once or twice a month is really enough for me At the moment. I'm not using it for medicinal purposes and quite frankly It just wasn't something that blew me away. I feel I am off to a good start but perhaps have a long way to go.

I guess to each their own but I'm very interested in learning more and perhaps enhancing my experices.

Wow! Thanks for the great info! This is why I chose this forum. I will definitely be researching your suggestions and will most likely be incorporating them soon.

I did read about the domed screens but also read that they didn't make much of a diffence. I'm going to look into it because I'm definitely a cheap date when it comes to weed and really only need the bare minimum to get me going!

Very happy to be here and maybe even contribute one day!

puffit will have granadillo stem (i think) back in stock this week
btw i feel my battery charge is a little short, it went from 7 to 2 in 5-6 session and it charges in about 1 hour is that normal?

I have this same battery issue, idk if it's an issue but it is weird.

yep, that should do it....

Soft reset: Plug into charger and hold down the up button for 4-5 seconds, release and unplug.

Hard reset: Open and unplug battery for 10 seconds. Re-assemble.

Good luck.;)

Im obviously not home to try this but is there any reason to think a reset would work?

Honestly, not overly. Never know with processor controlled stuff though.
Could also spare a transfer of emails between you and PUI as they may request you to try anyway.
EDIT: Wouldn't outright report the hard reset.:shrug:
