Da buddha dab kit (nail ? )

New Member
Yup my oil dome has broken twice/had a herb cover break. Once from me trying to put it on and i think twice from dropping the buddha/foot catching cord and it flying. Would be cool if the glass was slightly thicker but i keep buying the glass covers because its an awesome vape :)

WAAYY better than hitting a nail with torch.

OH and good tip for getting reclaim out of your bubble (dank and shatterful :) put the bubble on top of the dome, it should sit just above the titanium nail, turn up to regular heat for dabbing. After a couple minutes the wax will be warm and literally run out like water, lol first time i spilled some because i didnt anticipate it being so viscous but then when it cools like i said it can be shatter like and is sooo dank.
*i took out screen & tube

On a separate note does anyone ever worry that the ceramic element will break off/down or that the titanium nail will break down and we end up inhaling ceramic or titanium particles :/
Ive had some minor anecdotal experiences to make me question the long term safety of using these.

Hey guys, I need help. My nail kit is starting to taste really funky. I can barely even taste my herbs anymore. I ISO washed my entire kit (nail, wand, heater cover) and it only helped slightly! Any advice?

I've never cleaned the nail with ISO. I just torched it red hot and scraped anything left on the nail.

After an ISO soak any of the glass shouldn't have anything on it to contribute to the taste. Have you changed your tubing?

I have changed my tubing. You scrape it while it is scorched red hot?

No, after its cooled down a bit. I suggest a new nail?
Sounds like I might have to. Any tips on preserving the life of the nail? I feel like it started tasting shite ever since I combusted my hits a couple time in a row.

Seems weird that the taste would remain. I've combusted a few times on mine and didn't have a problem with a lingering taste. Have you torched the nail? Is there anything possibly on the ceramic?

So, this thread completely convinced me to get the nail kit for my SSV. Found answers to virtually all my questions. It all seemed kind of scary until I read through the thread (and watched @Vitolo 's video). Placed my order tonight. You guys rock.

One question left: I've heard that nails need "seasoning"; does anyone have any thoughts on what I should do with the nail that comes with the kit before I start using it?

Deadshort480

We're here to fuck shit up.
I've heard of seasoning nails in all different ways. All involve heating the nails and then either dunking the whole head into a liquid or dropping something into the nail's dish itself. I've most often heard of using some not so great oil or reclaim at high temp and then low temp to season. I've also heard of simply dunking the whole head into water after heating it or even jelly.... Yeah, like grape jelly.

If you want to be thorough, maybe dunk in water to help rid the head of any impurities andctgen using some type of oil or reclaim to coat the dish of the nail. That seems like you'd cover your bases.

Honestly, I've never seasoned a nail. I super heat the head until it's glowing and then let it settle back down to room temp. I heat the nail back up to a low heat and do a dab. Good to go.

And now, a report (and some questions at the bottom):

First, though: That rocked. I love living in Colorado.

The story
Received my delivery from 7th Floor on Thursday, after ordering Tuesday night. (Have I mentioned I love living in Colorado?) Received a shipment of dabbers from High Priority Glass on Friday. Bought concentrates on Saturday.

The setup was pretty easy. I have the older style SSV, and didn't have any problems getting the original HC off. The new one (GG) is a little loose; it sits on top and gets the job done, but it'll slide side-to-side with virtually no resistance. May try to add one of the shims to it to stabilize it, but it doesn't seem to be much of a problem for dabbing.

I started by turning the heat all the way up - there was an initial smoky smell, but that faded fairly quickly. After letting it get hot for about 20 minutes, I tried my first dab. The wax I picked up from a local dispensary was firm, and came looking like a small rock, but it broke apart easily and stuck to the dabber. The first dab was a very small one, and it vaporized instantly. Didn't feel like I got much off it. Tried a second one for good measure - a little bigger - similar results. But will say that it certainly worked.
The third dab, however, was an issue. My GF's first - the dab actually went up in flame. Not quite a fireball, but it definitely caught fire and I had to blow it out. A little scary.

For the next round, we turned the heat down to about to about 80% - my knob goes from about 7 o'clock (off) to about 5 o'clock (full blast), and I moved from 5 o'clock to 3 o'clock. Dabs were much better at that temp; dabs didn't vaporize instantly, but didn't take more than a second or two to fully vaporize. We had a little coughing, but nothing bad, and it worked supremely well.

Started playing with it around 4 pm, and suddenly it was around midnight. Definitely a good time!

Questions
  • Has anyone else had any flame ups? Are there other possible causes other than excess heat?
  • My dabbers now have some sticky residue on them. Should I just clean them off with some ISO?
  • Ditto on the nail. It seems, from reading around the forums, that there are a lot of opinions about how to clean nails. It seems like using a Q-tip and some ISO is the way to go, but does anyone have any other things I should consider?
  • I also picked up some bubble hash from the dispensary. I'm brand new to concentrates, and I was surprised by what I got - it's essentially a powder. I tried dropping some in the nail, but it didn't seem very effective. I think the next time, I'm going to try it mixed in with some flower. But I wonder:
    • Fresh flower or ABV?
    • Mixed in with the flower, sandwiched, or just a layer on the top (or bottom)?
    • Could I (should I) just vape it directly like it was flower?
Anyway, that was my dabbing adventure. Thanks again to ya'll for this entire thread.

High temperatures and high plant matter in your concentrates can cause combustion, as well as purge quality of your concentrates.

Yeah I just wipe off the oil residue from my dabbers on a rag I have for it when it really bugs me.

How dirty does your nail get? I'd think that maybe the heat itself would be enough to clean itself, ISO will work fine.

Bubble hash depending on micron size can be dabbable, but usually the dabbable bubble is labelled as such (XX microns) and also usually called ice wax or a variation thereof. It's just bubble hash with a lot less plant matter in it, but still solventless. Mixing it in with some flower for a wand load is what I'd be doing. Fresh or ABV, doesn't matter, I prefer with fresh material for the taste. I would probably sandwich it in between some bud, ideally you'd want the flower to rest on the screen, then the bubble to rest on the flower, that way when the heat goes through it hits the bubble first, then melts it into the flower, instead of the flower getting vaped first, then the bubble hash that's on the screen (which may clog the screen pretty fast). Sure, you can try vaping directly as well. Some of us like using cotton as a holder for hashes/oils for vaping when it's hard to do so otherwise (like with some stem/wand vapes).

Questions
  • Has anyone else had any flame ups? Are there other possible causes other than excess heat?
  • Yes... use the glass ball to your advantage (explained a few pages back)
  • My dabbers now have some sticky residue on them. Should I just clean them off with some ISO?
  • Yes
  • Ditto on the nail. It seems, from reading around the forums, that there are a lot of opinions about how to clean nails. It seems like using a Q-tip and some ISO is the way to go, but does anyone have any other things I should consider?
  • Use a torch until it glows (hold it with a hemostat or needlenose.
  • I also picked up some bubble hash from the dispensary. I'm brand new to concentrates, and I was surprised by what I got - it's essentially a powder. I tried dropping some in the nail, but it didn't seem very effective. I think the next time, I'm going to try it mixed in with some flower.
  • Do not use flower in the nail.. use wet concentrates (oil/wax/bho).. it is made for full melt concentrates. The powder bubble hasg should be treated as flowers or as a topper for flowers.. vape in same manner.
Anyway, that was my dabbing adventure. Thanks again to ya'll for this entire thread.
And above all to avoid soot in wand and hose.. when flare-up occurs, do not inhale through hose to extinguish it... use the ball on top to let flame die.

What ever you do just leave that HC loose the minute you start fucking with the shims you're just going to break it. Thank me later :)

Sounds like you may be running your ssv a bit hot. I recommend trying to keep the heat as low as possible while still being able to vape a dab off in a reasonable amount of time. This will maximize the flavor of your dabs and will eliminate the flame up issue. I've settled on 12:30 on my dbv ... I can drop a large dab on the nail head and it'll vape off in a couple seconds.

You say your extract is a crumbly? This is the type of extract I'm playing with most of the time and I'd say it's easiest to just use the dabber to break off dab size chunks of wax, pick up the dab with your fingers and drop it on the nail head ... less mess on the dabber and actually pretty fun. BHOmbs away! :smug:

I too love CO :bigleaf:

sooo is the ball cover like a carb cap of sorts? i am seriously considering this as a cheaper alternative to the enail or VB2. I miss my SSV...:(
My take on the ball cover is it's used when vaping flowers. Otherwise the air wouldn't get hot enough for vaping temps.
It is both.
It can control and tighten airflow to prevent flare-ups as well.
If you look deeply into the ball you can also see the future.

It works.. but the space around the element is so large, that the air in there is cooler, than in the normal DBV HC. I am forced to leave the heat at the top of the dial to use the Oil Rig HC with Ball to vape flowers. I can add that I must also adjust draw to a slower rate for it to be a success.

i found this to be EXACTLY true with my tests too. with the standard DBV HC i could vape flowers at 12:00 or 1:00. with the oil HC i needed to go to the max and slow my inhale down as well to vape flowers efficiently
