Offtopic question: any of you make your own smoke buddy(spoof) and can share details. I need to be a little discrete at times and would still like to vape inside. I was going to get the smoke buddy(spoof like) cause I hate the old college spoof but wasnt sure if it was a waste

I've seen empty toilet paper rolls stuffed with dryer sheets (fabric softener sheets) used quite successfully.

Looks ghetto as hell, unless you take time to decorate them....

Very cheap durable sploof:

You'll need:
2 pipe pieces
dryer sheets
activated carbon (aquarium type is perfect)

Here's the link to the one someone posted the instructions on to make.

I made the exact same one.

The pics are from the person who posted the instructions.

Works amazing!

You can go very small too because the vapor requires such little material to filter the smell.

It lasts very long too!

I'll post pics of mine, but it looks exactly the same as the one this person made.

Post some pics when you're done DDave!

Sativape, absolutely! Pics I can handle...

hey, what diameter pvc pipe did you use? I'm thinking of an easily carried 1/2" model... How are you packing it? Assume as follows...

DDave,

I used 1.5 inch pipe.

New design:

Get a pipe with female threads and instead of drilling the bulky plastic cap, thread this on both ends:

This is a faucet aerator.

Any hardware store carries it.

I'm on this 1st thing tomorrow morning.

Maybe this will be 1"... or you can go with reverse threads between the pipe and aerators.

Awesome Idea! Hey, what strain you Solo-ing right now? Creativity seems to be a maximum!

Before we get blasted for really staying off-topic in the Solo thread, wanna make a thread dedicated to this device?

That way we could continue the discussion and focus on the variations for these units! Besides, I just know that someone is going to request a "Pink" unit to match the Pink Solo they suggested above.

Vape On!

Let's do it DDave.

How do we make a thread?

I have a Super Silver Haze crossed with another Sativa dominant strain, but my buddy couldn't remember.

Can you create the new thread?

@ DDave,

Thanks for creating this thread.

As per our messages (in the Solo thread), I'm going to head to a hardware store, and pick up some supplies to build up a new vapor sploof.

I will post pics, and confirm part #'s and list instructions as well.

This should be fun!

That is a great idea!

Activated carbon can be found way cheaper though:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000YIWT0M/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2YKHLMXRLPQLV

I'm thinking reducing the diameter of the unit to use faucet aerators is going to be too restrictive.

@ voxdei,

Nice find on the carbon!

The one I made was 1 and 1/2" diameter and it works very well and I've only swapped out the carbon and dryer sheets a handful of times.

The faucet aerators are typically 15/16", but bigger commercial ones are available too that are up to 1 and 1/2" also.

I'm going to make one using both the female and male threaded faucet aerators with the standard 15/16" diameter, using different sized thing walled pipe (plastic and metal).

I'll report back with the results.

For me, this is more for emergency purposes when absolute discretion is required.

I think will the metal aerators, using a matching metal pipe would look slick, and if people saw it, they wouldn't think twice about it.

Edit: key thing is to not pack it too tight.

I've been using a gas mask filter for this- $5 at Joes Army-Navy Surplus

lol - I think some people may prefer to avoid donning a gas mask vs blowing into a tube. Novel solution though! :)

Thanks Sativape I looked but could not find 1.5" areators. Was going to give up the idea but will try some more. :)

It's just the filter, not the mask haha
CE005%20Filter,%20Nato.jpg

The mask is designed to pull the air through this into your lungs, then out a check valve into the open air from your lungs, so if you just blow vapor or even smoke through it- it's instantly scrubbed of any particles

@ Grim Chiclets,

Nice find man, I know a couple people who switched over from the smoke buddy to the gas mask filters.

It definitely works.

At home use it's perfect.

@ voxdei,

You're right, the 1.5" aerators are hard to come by.
I contacted the plumbing supply shop and they'll get back to me tomorrow.
It's definitely specific to industrial/commercial kitchen use applications.

Not to fear though,
I have a cheaper solution for a larger than the standard 15/16" sploof.
Threaded retaining rings/collar and a metal screen the sizes are unlimited:

I came back from Menards $4.96 poorer. (Menards # 6794846 & 6892238)

Add some fiberglass window screen I had laying around and we have a pseudo Smoke Buddy! :)

SmokeBuddy1.jpg

SmokeBubby2.jpg

One threaded cap was replaced with the cleanout adapter to make it more comfortable to blow into.

Add the carbon linked above & TADA! :)

Nice!

I'm so :bang: right now! Went to the hardware store yesterday and found the perfect premade device that could be used for this. had separate chambers for dryer sheets and charcoal, and even had ledges to support screens in between, but I'll be dipped in TAR! I was missing a piece that would close off one end and couldn't find any that would fit! Got  then :cuss: then :ugh: and left! That was Lowes!

Next time Home Depot!

@voxdei, nice looking!!!!!

@ voxdei,

Great job buddy!!!!

Load up a video/pics with the finished product.

@DDave

What was it that you found?

I was on my way to HD when I got called into a job...

Hopefully I will have a chance to put together something for tomorrow.

Have any of y'all used both a Smoke Buddy and one of those PVC homemade devices? I've seen vids of someone using a Smoke Buddy, and *nothing* can be seen coming out of it, even in very bright light. Is that the case with the homemade devices too? Or can you see stuff coming out but it doesn't smell? How about those gas mask filters--can you see anything coming out?

The one I made does not let any vapor out at all.
Only a slight scent of Downy, and I use less than a 1/4 sheet.

I'm sure the gas mask filter eliminates everything but Grim Chiclets can verify.

Yep, the Russian or NATO ones always seemed to have the least resistance when blowing through though- which is surprisingly a bigger deal than you'd think. I used to smoke with one, completely annihilated the smell. Now one of my friends uses one for his SSV, since he has no good ventilation in his room.

Edit: you cannot see any vapor from a gas mask filter, it's just air that comes out
I like to imagine it as some American soldier wearing one who just got hit by mustard gas- he's breathing clear while anyone caught without one is essentially dead- that's how well it scrubs the air/smoke/vapor :myday:
