Discontinued Sublimator XLR

Madcap79

Jack of all trades, master of none.
While I agree that some conduction is going on with a loaded ELB, I would contend that it is minimal. I often load ELBs that stay in the unit for hours at a time between hits. I have not noticed any loss of actives, and any leakage due to conduction is negligible. Contrast this with tossing herb into a heated Sub and watching the wisps of vapor immediately escape due to the high heat environment of the atomizer/screen (sorry, but the screen is anything but cool).

With the sublimator I would never leave a load unattended in the chamber as I do with the Cloud's ELB system. The sub would cook the load quickly, while the ELB remains viable for hours on end since it is separated from the heat source. :2c:

:peace:
I have no dog in this but my cloud+ definitely roasts herbs that are in the ELB while just sitting there. I can see the vapor escape. Just my experience, not trying to argue. Love you @Stu :ko:

While the sublimator is the best for one-hitters, the evo is far better for passing around.
The sub basically requires people to line up to take their turn at the substation;
however, you do get full extraction in a single hit if you load the sublimator that way.
The evo retains its thermal mass while unplugged for a few minutes so can be used without a leash.
I have both and have done extensive comparative testing!

Love you, too @Madcap79 . Happy Valentines Day to us. :p

We can talk more about escaping vapor from ELBs over on the Evo thread if you like. My only point was that the Sub cooks a load quite quickly via conduction, while the ELB can still be viable for hours at a time (source: I do it every night). With the Sub you have a short window to get the job done (a minute or so?) so the difference is quite substantial IME.

To imply that the Sublimator has less conduction than the Cloud is akin to saying the Earth is hotter than the sun IMO.

Yeah I agree on the reload part. My friends say it is okay because it makes for a conversation during the time you load and unload. But I disagree because the thing can be a PITA when dumping out. I realize I have to scrap constantly on the sides so that crumbs and ABV don't get into the atomizer's barrel (those crumbs sometimes becomes hash so I collect it at times.) I wish Enrico would eventually consider creating a bowl that would make dumping and reloading a breeze. Maybe something along the lines of the VB's Baker Ti bowl except small enough to fit inside the atomizer. It should have the screen embedded into it so that all we have to do is rinse/clean when it gets build up of gunk. Would be nice to just buy a bowl rather than screens. I dislike the fact that I can't find a perfect sized screen for my bottom ledge and it wasn't included in my purchase of the 1.0 Sub. They should give two different size of screens and two spares just in case of accidental loss. :2c::peace:
I use one of those metal things for tying up a turkey. Turn the bowl upside down and insert the end with the hoop. Then give it a little twist and the bowl is empty in a second.

I wish I could test this somehow before buying. To anyone who has this and an LSV or SSV, how does it compare in terms of the high you get, efficiency, size of hit, etc. Is it worth getting if you already own an SSV and/or LSV or would it just be redundant having multiple tabletop vapes?

Hi fellows,

I jump into the debate of science vaporizing and shit my :2c:. Sub explodes trichromas instantly end of story. :myday:

To consider the part of which heat transfer it occurs should be for analyst with powerfull computers for calculus.:argh::borg:

I had a brief experience of sub 1.0 and i tried many configs, like loading the bowl and unloading to see the effects of conduction and there were minimal. The experience to make is to let sit a load in hot bowl, w and w/o the appolo on in order to see the effects. The fact to challenge for conduction is : "is a load combust if you let it sit away with an heating appolo on it? if yes, how many time it took?"

The minute you bring the convection effect with the hot volume contained inside the appolo, it flashes the load in the very hot funnel. The immediate effect is the extraction. The hight temp equilibrium of the unit brings the resin no choice to boil off.

To observe the effet of convection, try to start hitting and then stop in some points to see the effects on the loads. it browns instantly.

Last word for science all we do here is aerosolization (cloud of particles), not proper vaporization. For sub all is in a very high temp equilibrium.

**I bring you some news as i broke my sub 1.0. Enrico granted my wish to put the new electronic controller to the former heating appolo w/o xlr. thank you custom sub is custom :freak:. He is working hard on the business with his precious team and every can see that the wheel of improvement started to turn. Time will tell.

I could not resist to test the xlr 2.0 and dabmaster and have a spare unit too!:nope:

@DeltaNine i have nano to compare and the high with sub is def different for the addition of all the effects (conduction+convection+radiation)

Having more than one vape unit is not redundant at all, different choices and experience. But do not let VAS enter, it makes wallet cry.

Im planning on making the purchase this weekend. I am looking at the Apollo adapt-a-bong titanium version. One question I have is whether or not I would want one of the metal bases and tubes they sell? I plan to use it on my 18" Straight tube no perc bong, and would buy a more suitable one if I had to but.. I have noticed people seem to often use the sublimator with a whip, and it looks pretty narrow for airflow. Does the sublimator work as well as people claim WITHOUT using the whip?

no offense to the whip users it just seems like the worst design ever. I see all the sub videos and they never manage to clear the big tube of vapor in front of them because that damn whip tube is so narrow it restricts airflow too much.. I am planning to use it on a bong with a choke so I can clear it.. maybe vids online by enrico are a poor example to go by though..

High DeltaNine,

I just have the regular Apollo XLR 2.0 setup with the stainless base, etc. that came out a few weeks ago. For flowers, I get all I need in one hit through the whip. Maybe it is just for additional cooling and convenience since the Apollo gets so hot? It sounds like I need to test it out!

Okay, I just performed the test and it worked great. Hit was not too harsh just using the tube, not too hot, but very similar to one though the whip - both draw very easily until the lungs are full. I have a Volcano and the Sub packs more of a punch that the Volcano with less herb. I definitely think it is worth buying even if you have another high end vape. .1g is all you need for a huge lung-bursting hit, the AVB or whatever is dark brown/black like you would expect from a full purge. It conserves bud for me compared to using my Volcano or Pax portable. Buy it! :D

If you take the top off their base it becomes more like a bong (only with a rough edge). You can no problem use a bong. There are videos of it. Some people even use water.

I can clear the tube though even with a whip. No coughing either. lol

Does my bong need a vertical stem for sublimator or can I use a 45 degree angled slide? Thanks for the replies, this is my last question before I am ready to buy..
I also emailed sublimators website and got some replies, apparently now they include both 14 and 18mm teflon in all the kits which seems nice. Wouldve wasted 12$ since the site doesnt seem to say that it includes that lol

I wouldn't put it into an angled slide. I don't know which video but I distinctly remember being told not to tilt the system, because the Apollo is heavy enough to fall off.

Hi CentiZen,
We have had limited stock of XLR 2.0, full stock and product listings will be on our site next week along with some new Sublimator apparel. Not sure if the heat shield will be compatible with the 1.0 units, maybe DabDiva can chime in or we will find out and update...
PV

Hey everyone,

Unfortunately, The heat shield is only for the XLR2.0 model. Please do not try and take your version one apart as this will void your warranty. Yes, we will know if it has been tampered with so again, version one users please don't take it apart.

Thanks.

Hey @DabDivas,

You might want to post that in the appropriate thread, now that they have been separated.

Thanks.

Got my ti-apollo xlr2.0 yesterday.

Everyone that has tried it has been floored, but.. the switching power supply already malfunctioned for me.

The green light no longer goes on; no power is being transmitted. I'm really hoping I don't have to pay anything for return shipping. It's honestly disappointing that a $600 unit comes with a ~$15-25 power supply (according to a quick google serial number search).

mod note: Two posts moved from original Sub thread

I seem to remeber that I saw in a vid that you would have to turn the the dial totally of and on again in order for the power to start again, did you try that? :D

Currently Sublimated
What's up Subculture. I just received my XLR 2.0 Adapt-a-bong Apollo last Thursday and this was quite a hazy weekend. I'll try and give my full impression of the device in this post. A little background from me, I'm a licensed medical patient and have been consuming herbs for easily over 10 years, closer to 15 at this point. I have owned a few vapes, starting with a vapor bros, then a volcano. More recently I've tried an Arizer Solo and V-Tower, I also bought a Pax last winter. I love the Pax and think I can get hits just as good from it as out of the Volcano bags. I feel like the whip style vapes work well but are my least favorite. I just feel like I get the least flavor from them (after the first hit or 2 at least) and they take a while to get the desired effect. As far as the Sublimator goes, it blows them all out of the water. I'll start with the downsides of the Sub here.

First off, I know it has been said many times but this is not your normal piece. It's not meant to be passed around and if you understand that, you'll have an easier time with it. I have been using it on my kitchen counter primarily due to not really having a good desk set up. I would suggest having the control box, inverter and Apollo all on the same surface or at least with no space for anything to get caught on the cord and knock things over. I have a dog so I am conscious of this. Also, I have quite a few glass pieces but the atomizer only fits in one of them, and the base is not quite large enough. This makes for a precarious situation, and I have to use a bit more water in the piece to balance it out than I normally would. I'm having another piece made for me that will make sublimating easier, it should be ready in a week or two. Hopefully I'll be able to actually collect my sublimate at that point as well.

Aside from the tipping danger, this device is not fast. You will get hits after about 10 minutes of warming but but you get the best hits after a half hour. I find myself turning it on when I get home before I get in the shower. As soon as I get out, it's ready to rip.

Downsides being covered, this thing rips like a beast. I can guarantee that if I'm at home, I'll have my Sublimator on and waiting for me. I find it slightly dangerous that I can load it and rip such large hits so quickly, I took many unexpected naps this weekend. I've also found that I like to start it off on #8 for some really efficient hits and then I turn it down to #6 for more flavorfull ones after the first few. Even with water, this is giving me some of the most flavorful hits I've experienced.

Edit: One last thing, is this device worth it? That's a tough question, the price tag makes it hard to swallow and the functionality leaves something to be desired. If you are looking for something that will hit really well and efficiently, this is it. If you're looking for something cheap and portable, this is certainly not it. For me, I'm happy I bought one and I recommend everyone trying one before judging it. If you have the money to spend and you're looking for what I specified, this device is for you, I haven't found a way to get a better all around hit than the Sublimator.

I tried messing around with the dial. I don't think it is an issue with the dial-box.

I checked the electrical contacts both within the power supply and on the cord that plugs into the wall, and nothing seems to be wrong.

That sucks, hopefully you can get a quick and painless replacement!
One advantage of the new apollo is you can just send in the controller box by itself.
