Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I'm a simple guy. When I was testing Nigel's unit I'd dump the still warm load into the top of a candy tin (about 3 inches in diameter, nice French Lemon Drops.....). Shaking it a bit spreads stuff out (so the ABV doesn't stick to the flowers). By the time I'd found the ground herb I was ready to reload. The flowers could be plucked out by finger tip as needed. No need for tools, it only takes maybe two minutes in the tin lid to be plenty cool.

By working on it still warm stuff isn't stuck together. I like to reload for the next session before putting a vape away, I suspect most guys do it the other way around? Try at least emptying it hot (or at least warm), i think you'll find it works easier.

Preloaded vapes are seriously underrated. My Solo stems are packed and ready at all times

I've now owned an Ascent for a week - about 3 years ago I bought the first version of the Iolite, and had it replaced very generously after around 18 months of use with the more robust second version.

When choosing a new vaporiser this time round, I specifically went for something that punched all the buttons the Iolite couldn't: the temperature control/programming, the all-glass/ceramic air path, but ultimately - the silence. That butane heating element in the Iolite is engineering genius in the way it releases the gas in bursts dependant on temperature readings (and achieves this without a battery), but the hissing during operation is just too distracting for use in social gatherings. People would put cushions over the thing if I vaped during a film, and I couldn't blame them at all.

Aside from an inaudible static sound during heat-up which you'd have to press to your ear in a quiet room in order to make out, the Ascent produces zero noise. That would have sold me it alone, were there not other stand-out features that made the switch feel like an undoubted upgrade. Whether it be the glass air path or the temperature control, something is making that vapour sweeter and smoother. But the extra dimension too of having a programmable regimen has given rise to controlled sessions and a greater economy regarding expenditure of product.

Pushing the temp beyond 380 created something I'd barely seen much of with the Iolite (only after maybe 25 minutes once the heat capacity of the chamber was being reached) which were genuine plumes of vapour, going right through to 405/410 when exhalation brought about visible clouds. It made me consider how the Iolite really was tight with its temperature control, probably keeping everything in the 350-375 region as intended and described in operation. But the experimentation at higher temps, with this arrangement of materials, has redefined what I thought the limitations of portable machines were. Ah, to live in an age of such sweet new technology.

I certainly don't want to knock the Iolite as it introduced me to vaping and has to be the ultimate festival vape, with sturdiness and confident battery-less economy, but the Ascent has been such a worthwhile purchase in the quality, sleekness and function. I'm loving it me.

Love this vape, but has a learning curve. I had the original stealth model, but it stopped charging so I returned it to DaVinci and they sent me a new carbon fiber model. I've found the best way to use it is a medium grind, squished between two pieces of organic cotton ball. I also use the straight water tool when at home since it makes sure there is no air getting in past the rubber seal. I can get good clouds from 365 up to 430.

Which water tool are you using?

I just use the straight water tool adapter that came with mine, instead of the retractable one that's usually used. I don't hook it up to any water pipes, but just hit it dry. I just found since the adapter is longer and sticks out but doesn't retract, it stops air from getting into the rubber seal.

I find the draw is a little tighter with the WT adapter, it's perfect. I have been very happy with the glass piece. Its been a busy week on the go a lot this week and just have been taking the Ascent along.
Im real happy with the battery performance been getting 75-80 min. It only takes about 2 1/2 to charge on a very low battery.

Yeah that's what I was finding as well, the adapter helps.

I have the Ascent car charger, I'm not too happy with it the cord is way too short. It's even too short if you had a passenger that wanted to partake in a quick session. It just works to charge the Ascent, too hard to use plugged in.

Dunno really why, but my Ascent has turned into a real cloud machine - using any just average quality herb.
Guess clogging up a bit helps ^^
Quickly made 2 vids.
One at ~190 and one at 210°C.
Those were not even the biggest, and there were about a dozen more, before between and after.
Start getting this at about 180° but definitely needs some time until the unit has really heated up and turned into a heatbox, from then on changing temps hasn't really that much of an effect.

Got used to the glass flowers, but clouds can be the same without, BUT
at ~10° higher temps and the whole chamber doesn't get that hot.. guess the effective temperature is higher using the flowers, therefore you can say the temp. displayed isn't accurate anymore (besides the other factors)
+ I've got the feeling that the max. temp is higher as well, it just stops reading at 221°C. Why? Because I had the situation a couple of times now that I get endless smoke like clouds at the end and can hit again and again and again.. it's not really burnt, but really really close to.

So, I've read this thread quite a bit, so much so that I signed up to join in. I've had my ascent for about 3 or 4 weeks now. I upgraded from the DV for flavor purposes. DV just kept giving off a rubber flavor. I haven't been vigilant with cleaning the ascent, but I have been with maintaining cleanliness after every session.

While the unit is still hot and running I empty the chamber which makes it very easy to fall out, then I rub the glass screen and surrounding gasket with a towel while still hot and it keeps everything clear for a long time.

Those are tips to maintain it's cleanliness, now this is where I need help. I went to clean the chamber with ISO and it really wouldn't clean up. The walls stayed dark and it was only until I used a skillet tool to scrape at the sides when it would stay dark. The problem is I see little shiny flecks and I'm wondering of the glass glaze in the bowl can scrape off that easily? Anyone with any cleaning tips for a good deep clean? Is abrasion no good? Thank you in advance

Haven't cleaned my chamber for quite some time and just tried with Qtips and Iso.. remains brownish, but who cares. No influence on the taste or something.

At first, I tried cleaning my Ascent regularly to keep the chamber clean. But I noticed no matter how hard I tried, blotches of dark kept remaining on the glass and after a while they wouldn't come off no matter what. I've just accepted the stains are there to stay. There's only so much I'm willing to scrub/scratch away at that thin surface of glass.

I also can't get the bottom half of the bowl clean, right after the grill if heading upward. Those spots/bits are there to stay. Sure doesn't seem to help the unit smell any less.

Am open to suggestions.

The problem I can see is if people have to send it in for warranty.

This is exactly what my concern was.

I sent mine in with no problems. Just ISO wiped the chamber and sent it in with stains no problem. And my whole chamber was stained.

That is good to hear.

However, I'd rather not have to worry about sending in a stained, smelly unit across nearly the entire country through the mail. That's just me.

Not to mention I like to have a unit that can look like new.

I still enjoy my Ascent, but the fact that it has areas in the bowl that gunk up, stain, and an entire half of a bowl underneath the chamber that's very difficult to reach and even if you can reach it you can't really clean it is all annoying.

Meanwhile, I can have my Firefly looking like brand new in a couple of minutes.

Oh that's sweet. Think about people having to send it in crossing continents :p

That's really worrying you?! I mean, the chambers white.. I never expected it to stay that way.. and it's not like it's really stained like having some real remains in there.. therefore no smell, no taste..the smell gets caught in the unit itself, pretty normal I'd say. How about putting that issue to the every day amnesia and feel better.
And you're only talking about the chamber/bowl don't you - not the glass parts?!

I don't taste anything bad from it, no. But I can tell you that my unit REEKS no matter how thoroughly I try to clean it. The smell is certainly not contained within my unit. And yes, I guess I was expecting to be able to keep the chamber looking white. Or at least not stains all over.

My inner glass sleeves look fine.

It's not a huge issue, no. But if I'm going to sit down and clean my vaporizer, I want to see better results than a speckled chamber. And I don't want to have to clean it every day.

This is part of why I only use the Ascent at night to fall asleep anymore. It's not really right for me.

Mine Is stained pretty bad. I soak a cloth In iso and put it in the bowl and it will loosen a lot of it and the
more you soak it more of it will loosen. After i do that i get very little smell. Keeping the glass filter clean does more for the odor than anything.

mod note: Edited to fix broken quote tag.

I was thinking of soaking a slightly abrasive cloth in ISO, but I couldn't really fit the cloth in the chamber, then worried about the ISO bleeding off the cloth and hitting the rubber part of the stealth ascent. I was able to get the dark spots off from scraping with the skillet tool, the finish where I scraped still feels smooth and light reflects from it, so I believe the glass is still in tact. A wooden toothpick might be a safer way to scrape, it just might take longer.

Tony Hemp,
I have been loving my Ascent, I started just putting it on 430 right of the get go, and just taking pulls to keep moderating the temperature since I saw the photos of how much the temp drops. Was getting good clouds, just sessions were kind of short, great high though! Anyway this morning the worst thing every happened, My Ascent will not heat up, Will turn on and will charge, But when turned on it stays at 62, or 67, or 72, or 77.....Then does not move. I have tried it standing up, holding it, plugged into charger and not plugged it. :( :( ....This is already my 3rd Ascent! :( I am going to ask for a different model his time, Any suggestions? Also what is best shipping method? Sucks because finally, my glass flowers came today :(

Gonna assume it was a stealth. I grabbed a carbon working well so far.

Alright for those who use the water tool with a water pipe I tried mine last night and when I attatched everything the chamber of the water pipe didn't fill up and I had to start drawing to see vapor any ideas?
Also between hits do you take the ascent off the water pipe while it heats up or leave it on there for awhile?
