What do y'all think of The Vape Critic?

People seem to have some real opinions on this guy. Why not let it all out in one place?

I have to admit I have benefited from his advice in the past. Back when I didn't know anything about vaporizing, I almost bought a viVape 2 in part based on the reviews from FC. His review made me think twice.

On the other hand... his reviews rarely seem all that genuine or accurate to me these days.

What do you think? Is this guy a positive or negative for the vapor community?

Here the issues that I have with him.

One, is that I don't trust anyone who gets paid by a retailer to review vaporizers. There's too much of a conflict of interests going on there and it leaves the door open for him to give positive reviews to not only those vapes that the retailer sells, but to give better reviews on those vapes that are the most profitable vapes for the retailer to sell, depending upon how he's compensated. Why is the 'Cano and the Plenty the highest rated vapes?

Two is his rating system. He rates the PAX higher than the Buddha or the HerbalAire. How in the hell can do that when one is a portable and the other two are home units. It's like comparing apples to oranges. And even if you wanted to put them all on a level playing field, in what way is the PAX a better overall vaporizer than either of those two? The whole rating system makes no sense. He rates the MFLB above the HerbalAire. How in the hell can you do that when each vape has their strengths AND their weaknesses?

He even rates the Ascent over the Buddha and the HerbalAire as well. What the......

This quote from his site kinda sums it all up for me. ".....The Volcano is the best vape money can buy. It’s the Bentley of vaporizers. When you’re ready to buy a new Volcano I highly recommend you get it from this store"

Uh.............Unbiased reviews? lol

He calls the DBV's vapor production/taste average, then proceeds to call the SSV's great in the next video..

Umm.. He knows theyre tha same vape with different HC'a right?.. Ive never cared for his reviews, just a cocky kinda manner he conducts.. I rather listen to someone down to earth that gains only tha benefi of helping someone choose their right vaporizer.

I think you guys pretty much covered it already.

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
Personally, I don't care who's name rides over video reviews, as I look towards them as a means to actually see an item 'up close' & 'in use'... *regardless if being paid or supplied by vendors or manufacturers.

If what I see maintains my interest, I rip back here to FC (or whatever item related site with known members) and make a purchase decision based on trusted real life reviews.

Ditto for me. His videos give me a look into the unit. I seek within FC to learn the truth!

Maybe the reason rates almost everything above the Herbalaire is because it's a lower priced competitor to his beloved Volcano. Although I can't put my finger on it, something about his manner rubs me the wrong way.
Arrogance perhaps? That's the tone I get from many reviews I've seen.

Wish I got paid to review vapes...
In turn, Wish I got paid to review your reviews!!!! ;)

I'm sorry @DDave but if I'm gonna pay anyone to review people reviews it'd have to be @lwien. He pretty much nailed it as far as I'm concerned.

@Richy , I can't argue that one! :)

Seems I must study the lwienian Way so I may become a Black Belt Vape Reviewer!

This is good advice...very buddha-like!

Watch his vids for the demonstrations and the facts and toss all the opinions afterward and go make your own.

Late to the game on this cuz just getting into vaping. Like Smokum said above - I use VC's reviews as a base and then look to the VERY helpful folks here for more info. Got me to an Alfa. Living in a not 420 friendly state I just can't go down to my local HS and check 'em out and talk to folks. So ... Vape Critic.

Personally, I think Bud puts great time and effort into his reviews. Since I was new to the scene I went back and watched a lot of his older reviews as well. You can see the leaps and bounds he's made in how he reviews and how the production values of his reviews have greatly improved. For a one cam operation it's pretty damn good technically wise.

I found his focus on background, how they function and actually seeing them in operation very helpful.

As to the "getting paid" portion of this discussion. He is open and right up front that if you click on the link he provides he's getting some affiliate renumeration. Since he does tell you and notes it clearly on his website. Couldn't be more clear. He even thanks peeps who use the link for supporting him. I don't have a problem with that. (Now if it was not mentioned that would be a different story. But he is following best practice here peeps.) Especially since he obviously takes a great deal of time putting the reviews together.
