New female co-worker admits she had cheated on her boyfriend (now husband.)

Quick story of something that I think is odd...

I work closely with two other female co-workers (we are all mid-twenties) who like to yap about whatever woman like to yap about (no offense, ladies) after work. Well, the subject of boyfriends/husbands comes up, and to make a long story short, she causally jabbers that she and her hubby/boyfriend have been together for six years, minus a short period where she broke up with him because she "was a party girl and wanted to party." She then admits that she should have broken up with with him a little sooner than she, implying that she cheated on him (the other woman had just brought up that she broke up with her boyfriend to because she wanted to explore or something...) She even said it with a smile as if was no big deal. She finished the conversation by telling us that she doesn't party anymore so she can keep "in check".

I just don't get it. I just wanted to say, "You're a slut." The other co-worker was like "ahhh ok" and that was the end of that conversation. Are people really that clueless?

I couldn't even care less about that. So someone wants to have responsible sex, big deal? Sure cheating is a "bad thing" but sex itself isn't.

"Cheating" is the focal point, and to me "cheating" is horrible and shameful. It's fucking horrible.

That's what I find funny about men/women.
All a woman has to do is say I don't party anymore and I keep myself in check.

A man on the other hand would have to change his lifestyle completely before anyone would believe/take him serious

Unless you are romantically or sexually involved with these people, I don't see why you (or anyone else) should give a fuck.

Wait... that's not fair on my part. Let me reconsider my position...

I don't know ... kinda' agree wilth the OP ... cheating is fucking horrible! No getting around it. Sex is awesome ... however ... if one is in a committed relationship ... unless the other party is ok with it (and that's a pretty unusual thing in my experience, limited as it may be) cheating is just about the worst thing one can do to the other ... complete betrayal of trust.

Edit: And to continue the point ... the other issue the OP was brining up is the casual attitude people seem to take about the fact that they cheated on their partner ... not cool at all ... IF I cheated on my partner (and I never have in the last 19 years we've been together ... haven't even kissed another woman) I don't know if I'd be able to get by it ... (that's the only thing--loyalty and the fact that I care and know how much it would hurt--that keeps me in check because I LOVE sex and things haven't been perfect all the time for the last 19 years)

Cheating is horrible, we can all agree on that.

However, I'm with @Caligula, it comes down to this: Mind Your Own Fucking Business.

Pun intended, as in not only mind your own business in general but especially mind your own fucking business... as in it's not your business who others are fucking just as I'd imagine you'd want them to mind their business about who you're fucking.

I think the OP did mind their own business though ... (as they didn't speak up or against at the time) ... however, they are posting here to get opinions ... in a social context its interesting what people justify as "ok" behavior ... "live and let live" ... however, when someone else is being hurt by your actions then the "let live" part is kind of being ignored ... or is it if the person being hurt doesn't know to be hurt? (ie. "If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it does it really make a sound?"

If the husband in question, for instance, was a friend of mine ... I'd be really torn on what to do ... tell him and upset his world or have him continue to believe that his significant other is honest and hasn't/won't cheat on him .... (not that I'm perfect ... I haven't always been completely honest ... far from it ... even though I haven't cheated on her sex/relationship wise that's not the only way to betray someone's trust ... and it eats away at me all the time ...)

Edit: And @Caligula ... love ya' man ... but the comparison isn't the same ... someone generalizing cannabis use as bad and discriminating against people because of it is obviously reprehensible ... although generally just ignorant ... similarly cheating on one's partner is reprehensible ... or maybe people can be just so misguided that they feel its ok to betray people and thus it is also just ignorant? (so maybe your comparison is valid ... seems we agree ... ignorance is bad :))

I wasn't trying to draw an apples to apples comparison. I was trying to highlight the hypocrisy contained within some of these posts. Just because its "horrible" to you doesn't mean it is viewed the same way by someone else. This is no different than the guy who came to my door yesterday saying that my only hope for eternal salvation was to buy into whatever dogma he was peddling.

I should also note this this in no way reflects my own personal opinions on the matter, however said opinions should really only be relevant to my own situation. It should in no way be used to blanket everything and everyone else, though.

I agree, the OP did in fact mind his own business in terms of not saying anything. That's a good point.
My post was more towards the types of people that would in fact say something.

However, I do find it unfortunate that he thought of this woman as a slut while men in the same situation are so often winked at, high fived, and otherwise lauded.

And I don't think @Caligula is that far off base. In some areas of the country, with some types of folks, cannabis usage could very well be considered WORSE than cheating. We know better. But many others are simpletons.
Some ignorant, nosy bitch might overhear you speaking about vaporizing and be concerned that an 'illegal drug activity' is going on around your children and alert the authorities.

I think of the behavior of both men and women who act like this in the same way ... I don't think it's any more ok or cool for a man to act this way then a woman. And I hear about these types of things occurring both ways ... and I don't approve of either ... but it also doesn't form my whole opinion of a person .... its just one aspect ... (but it doesn't say very flattering things about a person if they cheat on their partner ... although every situation is individual so its tough to generalize ...)

I don't care if you're a man or woman...and the term "slut" may have been a bit of a hyperbole, but if you think it's fine to cheat on your significant other, then fuck you lol. (Not "fuck you" to the poster)

I don't know about everyone else on this thread, but if you truly love your partner, then you would be horrified to catch that person cheating on you. Right?

I'm extremely 'liberal' in that I don't give a cock about how people run their life, but I draw the line at murder and adultery. Fuck those.

You are a complete FUCK if you break someone's heart because you decided to cheat.

Couldn't agree more! Been fucked more than ten ways to Sunday, but getting cheated on was the worst.
