Scales... what are you using? which scales are accurate? digi or analog?

I've used both - the palmscale would be my choice - much more accurate IMO, the screen is much nicer and offers more features, and to be totally honest - aesthetically the palmscale looks better.

But that's just me...

Thanks for your response. I agree that the Palmscale does look better and if it actually does perform better I think it's worth the extra money. Not to mention the extra $$ I would save over time from using 2 AAA batteries instead of 3 AAA batteries. I think I might go with that one when I'm ready to upgrade from my cheapo scale.

  • It'll Even Calculate Prices!

The newest in the PalmScale series. This mini scale has a lot of new features and included in this list is the easy to use, price calculating function. To use this feature, simply set your price using the arrow keys on the scale. Once ya have your price set just weigh your items, the PalmScale will automatically calculate the price for you. Use this feature to calculate prices for jewelry pieces and more!

I bought my Palmscale 7 a while ago and I went through canadianweigh.com (I'm very happy with my Palmscale 7 ... I see that's still what they have on the canadianweigh site ... no Palmscale 8 yet)

Their price is $69.10 plus $12.90 for shipping giving a total of $82.

On Amazon i paid $44.50 plus $5.54 for shipping giving a total of $50.04.
I feel pretty good searching and saving $30 for the same item!
It will be nice to know what each load weighs too!

Myweigh makes a great scale, so you will be happy with their purchase, I am sure. My Palmscale 8 has been going strong for awhile now. I also have a larger Myweigh scale for cooking in the kitchen...great brand.

What advantage does a name brand scale have over a $1 scale off ebay with free shipping, that has a resolution of 0.01g ? The $1 scale can be confirmed for accuracy using calibration weights, and calibrated using the same weights you would use on expensive scales.

It's about quality. Quality of the components, quality of the measure.

I have a cheap ebay scale and it is very inaccurate at the best of times.
I calibrate it with the supplied weight and it all looks good.
Then when i weigh something the first day and then weigh the same load again it is usually pretty close.
Keep using it for a few days and the same load weight varies, the first read could be 0,1g the next it will read 0,2g or less sometimes.
Kind of hard to accurately figure out a medication dose this way.
I am sure regular vapists are not concerned with weight etc unless they are interested in the amount they vape.... But i need one that will weigh the same load all the time and stay in calibration longer than a few days when not moved.
I like to find a load weight that works well and then stick to it.

I've got a cheap proscale - up to 300g @ .1 accuracy. I've never needed more than tenths accuracy for mj. Hundredths accuracy is usually for powders. What is a hundredth of a gram of mj? 4 crystals and a hair? You could always go oldschool and get a triple beam.

Agree with all above... BUT i like what i like just like everyone else likes what they like!
Talking like my 17 year old step daughter...Like as if!

And i need something classy to sit next to my Herbie!!
High class vapes require high class scales, at least in my world!

My standard load is .07g. Lots of people use loads smaller than .1g. To measure .01 accurately, you need .001 resolution. Your scale's accuracy is actually +-.049 due to rounding error. Your scale measures anything between .149g or .051g as .1g.

And the most cost effective (without hugely sacrificing on quality) option for such a unit?

I picked up an AWS-100 from amazon a few months ago. Very cool especially after using one of those silly metal mechanical ones for the past twenty years. The one where you hang the bag from a clip and hold up to balance. Just tried finding one online to figure out its exact name without any luck. I should actually test to see how accurate it was for a giggle.
The best is my 'medicine man' has had a triple beam that he's been using for about 35 years. He snagged it from his high school science class back in the day. It weighs right on the money tho, the past few times I've checked with my AWS when I arrived home and its spot on.

If you're asking what I use, it's a JSR-100 (www.jscale.com, although I got it through canadaweigh.com). It's good enough for me, but it has some flaws. It sometimes turns itself off even though I'm still using it. The most annoying is that although it is accurate, it won't register a weight under .04 g.

Edit: I just checked and I did not remember correctly, it's .03 g.

.01g is certainly pretty useless for flower, but .05g (50mg) is absolutely a good dose in a lot of efficient vaporizers.

I could see how its a pretty moot issue if you're growing lots,
but if you're spending big money at a medical dispensary for topshelf, labtested buds (Like $50/8th+), then measuring out 50mg doses isn't that bizarre.

Myself personally, I also only have a 0.1g scale.
However, I would enjoy playing around with measured doses IF someone gave me a .01 or .001 scale.

If you don't care about being bang on accurate, than yes you can use those cheap scales. As Roger mentioned, it's about knowing that you are getting a quality scale that will be consistent and accurate throughout the life of the scale.

Alot of people are measuring things that need to be guaranteed accurate. In those cases, a name brand scale with solid warranty and a quality build, brings alot of peace of mind. In some cases (retail) the scale has to be certified, etc. In less stringent situations, where someone just wants a ballpark, a cheap scale is fine.

Sorry. I had no idea. I figured people were just getting their place value wrong. I just put .1 on the scale to get a visual and would say it's not even 1/4 of what I typically load. Not saying high tolerance is a good thing.

Always in a state of confusion and silliness♀
Question please, I thought the .1 and .01 and .001 just showed you how many decimal places the scale went to. What is a .03 or .05 or where you just talking about the weight of something? You know I live in the state of confusion:huh::hmm:

The .03 was me saying that my scale won't register a weight below that, although I know it is accurate at .05 g. It is a .01 scale, meaning it reads in hundredths.

I've also been using the AWS-100 for a handful of months, and it's not too bad for $10 digi scale.
It only fluctuates +-0.015 (guesstimate, but never seen it go +- 0.02); for 10 bucks I think that's acceptable. It reads my 25g calibration weight as dead-on each time I've tried it, including straight out of the packaging.
Zeroing and Tare functions work as expected, and the display stays on for 45 seconds after weighing (which may be a "fault" in my unit, description says 30 secs).
Portability is excellent, and while construction quality isn't the best, it's definitely not the worst either.
It also opens completely flat (unlike some of the MyWeighs- specifically the PalmScale series, which I was going to get except for that 1 factor); closed it's roughly the size of a tall smartphone.
