This is exactly what I am speaking about concerning the "new liberty" moving forward. It means people getting out of other people's shit unless they are really bothering you. Its understanding that a plant might be a medicine. If you had a choice of your kid being caught with YOUR oxycodone, pot, booze, cigs, meth, heroin etc . . . what ONE would you pick? To say none is a cop out that ignores reality. 4,000 kids under 21 last year died from alcohol. The truth is that DELAYED INITIATION is the proper approach to cannabis, not prohibition. Anyone who says its all about the kids should be campaigning to prohibit alcohol. I should know, i had a relative killed by a drunk driver.

The harmful use of alcohol (defined as excessive use to the point that it causes damage to health) has many implications on public health as demonstrated in the following key findings:

• Harmful use of alcohol results in the death of 2.5 million people annually, causes illness and injury to millions more, and increasingly affects younger generations and drinkers in developing countries.

• Nearly 4% of all deaths are related to alcohol. Most alcohol-related deaths are caused by alcohol result from injuries, cancer, cardiovascular diseases and liver cirrhosis.

• 6.2% of male deaths are related to alcohol, compared to 1.1% of female deaths.

• 320 000 young people aged 15-29 years die annually, from alcohol-related causes, resulting in 9% of all deaths in that age group.

Exactly Gunky, what a setup that bullshit was! Amen tdub! I have been in my counties recovery program a few times bc of alcohol related events. Most of the people in this system were court ordered for mj and alcohol related events. I had a counselor ask me why I liked getting high on mj, I honestly replied "bc it makes me think." He ignorantly and rudely said "Wow, I bet you think of really smart stuff when your on weed, huh?" I replied "Well, sometimes! Like the other day when I was high as giraffe pussy, meanwhile thinking, your getting paid a decent salary to preach this bullshit and then you say your doing it mainly bc you care about humanity and not for a salary. However you let us go out for our mandatory "smoke" break which you justify by saying just break, but fuck c'mon we know what it really is, don't justify it bc you had a vote to end class early or in middle of 3 hours! You know what the majority will choose and why! So my question is, What's more harmful MJ or tobacco?" He replied with well it's break time, and everyone went out and smoked! Fucking unreal!! These people claim a better humanity for everyone yet they aren't open minded enough to see any benefits of a drug, solely bc of its falsefied classification as an illicit drug. Talk about the blind leading the blind! Since I no longer drink and drive, I need/want/will move to Colorado, ASAFP!

in a weird way I see your post 80 years in the future ( talking about cannabis ) looking back on the bad of cannabis after prohibition let up. there will be numbers listed for driving accidents and maybe violent acts but once cannabis is legalized the percentage of stupid human actions will stay the same just that cannabis will now be a long for the ride of humanities stupidness because it is legal. all I'm saying is humans are not to bright all the time and our actions reflect that dullness so we will do stupid things regardless of cannabis or not.
In 80 years I know for a fact we will be looking back and comparing the stupidness of cannabis prohibition with the violence surrounding the prohibition and we will have graphs and charts showing how cannabis related violence dropped off to literally non existence after it was legalized and accepted. those are the charts I can't wait to see !!!

Even after mj is legalized I guarantee it will only be legal to use it in your home (already the case in CO), while we'll continue to encourage people to drive to bars and restaurants, get loaded and then get behind the wheel of what then becomes a deadly weapon. 3 beers or drinks in an hour gives me a blood alcohol level that makes it illegal for me to drive, and as long as I'm not falling down drunk any bartender or waiter would serve me twice that much, if they're even keeping track.

Just so you guys know, the kid that killed my brother in law was 18 . . . anyways I agree @max hypocrisy rules. Has anyone noticed Bill O'Fucking Nazi Riley does an anti MJ hit piece at least once a week on his show? Its all about the kids . . yeah right. The kids are loving the prescription medications the most Billy boy. And alcohol kills.

Another personal story regarding my niece who was 19 at the time. Get a call at home from her cell phone, she is supposed to be at the library studying. I answer to hear a boys voice, he is scared. He tells me they are in the woods somewhere drinking tequila and that she has passed out, is vomiting, and he can't wake her up . . .

I will spare you guys the rest, we got there and hauled her out of the woods and saved her, but cannabis would never have been this dangerous.

Some good posts in here, thank you Vicki, for starting this thread.

I always found it ironic that mj is labelled as a schedule I drug, yet I hear ignorant mj opponents constantly state that it's a gateway drug. Wait, so you say a schedule I drug leads to using schedule II drugs?

What am I missing here??

What I love is all of these self professed puritans, Bill O'Nazi is proud he doesn't drink or anything, never has and I bet Nancy is similar, telling us they are the "experts" on what it means to get high. I bet none of them ever tried to ride a bicycle after drinking alcohol vs cannabis, totally different. Also, who ever said that in America we have to be slaves 110% of the time . . . thats why peeps like her are so whacked in the first place. And when they say legalization will just "put more of it out there" well its already being consumed by the metric ton. If your kid comes into contact with cannabis illegally, do you want that cannabis to be cartel grown or state managed like alcohol? What is wrong with giving people who might not like alcohol a healthier choice? I didn't start drinking until I was forced to because of drug testing in the work place. Prohibition loses because its based on a lie. The lie that cannabis is schedule 1. A trillion dollars of destruction in the drug war and the idiots still want it to "just go away". Now we have cartels that are richer than most countries, better armed, and launder their money through the banking system with impunity.

Now Nancy Grace is blaming pot for the death of Phillip C Hoffman dieing of Heroin. She said that "pot is a gateway drug" and that Phillip C Hoffman probably started out smoking pot. Now they want to legalize pot, in WA and CO.

She is so out of touch with reality. She stated that she has never smoked pot, so she dedicated herself as a spokesperson on the relationship between pot and heroin.

She seems to think she is the smartest person in the room, the authority on everything. I think the emperor has no clothes. Her twins will be so screwed up as teenagers.
