Pax or Pinnacle Pro, which is the better buy?

A few years ago I bought a WISPR, the first version, and loved it in theory. But it always leaked and just wasn't that great a piece. Now I'm looking for a new portable and am looking at those two. The Pax is more widely reviewed and notable, but the Pinnacle Pro seems like a great option as well. Does anyone have experience with both and can help someone who's used neither decide? Pros/cons of each? Which is more reliable? Which is more bang for the buck?

Also was interested in the Palm 2.0, but decided to go big or go home.

Anyway, thanks!

I've owned both vaporizers. IMO, the Pinnacle Pro is the better choice. In my experience, the big drawback of the Pax is its lack of efficiency. The Pax was a real HOG with my herb. It's also high maintenance; the Pax requires frequent thorough cleaning. The Pinnacle Pro requires almost no cleaning and the taste of the vapor is better than the Pax. I had to replace my Pax twice because of stuck temp switch, funky electronics, etc. The Pinnacle Pro has been absolutely rock solid;not a single problem. The Pax has superior battery life, but IMO, that's its only advantage over the Pro. But the Pro can be used while charging. The Pax can't. Hope this helps.

I bought my Pax for $250 and my Pinnacle Pro for $170. The PnP is definitely more bang for the buck.

I personally enjoy the PnP more so I'll make a pros/cons list for it:

Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to clean and maintain
  • Efficient (I have had success pretty much filling any amount in the Bullets)
  • Can be used with water filtration (I know you are looking for a portable vape, but the option is available)
  • Can use waxes/oils (I don't have access to any, but the again the option is available)
  • Can be used while charging
  • More temperature control
  • I love the Bullet system - You can load each bullet and swap them out each session rather than dumping out and repacking
  • Lightweight
Cons
  • Long charge time (3+ hours)
  • Average battery life (I get about 4 sessions before my unit dies)
  • Mouthpiece could fit on the unit better

I get more sessions with the Pax than Pinnacle Pro. Also it charges faster (under 2 hours). The Pax is a little bit more portable and stealth than the PnP but it smells more so that takes away from stealth).

It requires way more maintenance to keep it performing well (or in some cases performing at all). It also has a more restrictive draw than the PnP.

Both are portable and both are discrete as well. I would suggest the pax first if your main thing is on the go vaping and for the stealth/portability. I would only suggest buying the pinnacle if you plan on taking the water tower everywhere with you.

Even on level 2 out the 5 settings with the PNP, I could not hit it more than twice without the feeling that my throat was being damaged/burned very badly. This happened to all 10 of my buddies that tried it as well, so I know its not just me. I was only ever able to use it comfortably when it was with the water tower.

Another thing with me is movie theater vaping, there is nothing I love more than vaping while watching the latest and greatest movie thats still in the theaters. I brought both of my pax's with me multiple times and never had a problem, even on the high setting. The first and ONLY time I brought in my PNP I was called out immediately (some of you say your pax smells but to me turning on the PNP was about as bad as lighting an actual joint). People 3 rows down were literally turning around and sniffing the air and asking what the smell was and I hadent even taken a drag yet. Not to mention the people that were even closer are just there staring at me.

I do like some things about the pinnalce, the shaping, the size, the ease of use, and barely having to clean it. But at the end of the day all that stuff is worthless to me if I cant just carry around the vape and use it dry.

Pax all the way.

There will be no clear winner with either choice. I have owned the Pax (just gave away as a Christmas present). As well I own the Pinnacle Pro, 2 Solo's, Persei+ Bender+ Core and a variety of water tubes to be used with each.
I loved the Pax when it was clean and charged. Portability was awesome. Had some smell but when clean not as noticeable. Didn't think it was a herb hog. I am a heavy smoker and thus comes my problems with the Pax. I felt it needed to be squeaky clean to work properly. I ran into problems when I didn't clean regularly enough. It was needing to be cleaned every day or two. This is where you have to decide if you are the type of person who is really good about cleaning your Vaporizer or you are maybe a little lax like myself.
The Pinnacle is pretty stealthy and the bullets are interesting. You can load them ahead of time and then just change em out on the go. It does run hot. I never use the mouthpiece, opting for the gong for better air flow. I add an extra screen on top of the bullet. I end up losing the screen all the time. I bought a 50 bag from ebay so I just switch em out when that happens. I add the screen because I would have to clean the gong screen a lot if I didn't. You can add several water tubes to this. I use the F-Bomb from PlanetVape. I prefer this to the Pinnacle one but that's all personal choice. There are some people using glass stems to help cool down the vapor look in the forum.
I think you have to weigh out what you are looking for in your vape. As well how much effort you want to donate to keep your vape running smooth.
I think both units are worth the purchase.

My main focus isn't going to be using it in a movie theater or anywhere, but i'd love to be able to take my vape to a concert or something and not worry about it. So the Pax gets points in that area. The Pinnacle seems easy to use and I like the 5 temperature settings, but I don't think I'd be bringing the Water part everywhere. So yeah, I'm still not sure. It's just that I know I'm only going to get one of the two and want to make the right choice.

I can see clearly now the smoke is gone...
The man has already done his homework. He knows what he wants. I see no need to muddy the waters. PnPro.

I didn't see any quantification of his choices which is why I'm asking. He gave some criteria already and so far the Solo fits the bill. Hence the question... why no Solo?

The Solo seems a little TOO unstelthy, that's really all. Is it really that much better than the PnP &/or Pax?

Ive only used the Pax and Solo (out of the 3 were talking about) but I can tell you the Solo is light years ahead of it in terms of vapor quality (flavor), full extraction, and conservation of herb. Furthermore the battery life on the Solo is second to none.

The Solo is also built like a tank and requires basically 0 cleaning.

Solo hands down if glass isn't an issue. It puts my pax to shame. Cleaning is not an issue with any of them IMHO, but flavor will always go to solo. Pinnacle is too harsh for me. I reduce load size with glass screens in my pax, but i wouldtrade for my buddies solo in a second.

It was such an impulse purchase.. I couldve gotten a nice piece of glass AND a brand new solo and saved $20 or so..

So what are you going to do with that soda can combo after you get high at the club? Stick it back in your pocket? Are you going to carry multiple stems for you next sesh?

The Solo is a great vape. But it is not stealthy in any shape or form. Sticking it in a Coke cup/can with a resiny stem sticking out is not stealth. ;)

Id be fine bringing it with a wooden stem to a concert.. No worries there. Without any clever hiding..

I agree... the Solo is great but it is heavy and bulky. It can be used outside but it is not ideal and the session style is somewhat restricting since you don't always have 15min to calmly vape away.

The Pinnacle offers a compromise between taste and portability. The PAX is all portability and compromises on everything else.

It seems the OP wants some stealth, so i would go with the Pinnacle. Check the Classifieds, there are two for sale.

Are you asking me directly? I don't go to clubs, I'm too old for that shit. Also not sure why you wouldnt go to your car or at least a bathroom stall to medicate in a situation like that. I suppose it might be different if you were at a movie or in a vehicle or something... but isn't that a venue where that hide a can (or cup) trick would excel?

I would also imagine having a Jyar (or film canister or whatever) filled pre-ground bud would eliminate the need to carry multiple stems? Just stick the empty stem in, push down and you have a pretty well packed bowl ready to go. Not sure why you'd need extra stemware?

In any case OP alluded to the fact that stealth wasnt priority number one when he said;

My main focus isn't going to be using it in a movie theater or anywhere...

Hence why the Solo became a contender here IMO and why your hypothetical club scenario isnt pertinent to the conversation (again, IMO).

And honestly, if you want to get high in public like that, get yourself a concentrate pen.
