Hi Hexi, my point was not so much to introduce what I thought was new information, rather to highlight the issues that I have with this unit. If VXL is looking at the community feedback, then I'd like them to see my feedback as well. I'm not sure if others reporting and discussing the issues should preclude me from doing the same.
.

I was agreeing with you, not saying you or anyone else should be precluded. If there was a misunderstanding, my bad. I was replying to your post, but not as some sort of disagreement etc... but as a jumping off point.

That elastic band DIY is pretty neat, that's kinda the direction I think we'd expect a revision to have little clean air filter on the whistle-hole.

let me clarify - I recognize that both negative and positive feedback are valuable to the discussion and to VXL,

I think we're all in on that vibe, just a community of peeps using a device and talking /sharing stuff about it w/ each other.

Cloudy...
The international orders are still primarily from the IGG campaign. Waiting would have missed the special pricing and extras that came with those contributions.

Just what I was goign to say. I don't care about the delay because I payed less, I have 2 years of warranty, SM said we will have some extra stuff (I think ELB's) and my EVO will be more tested and without the errors in some units. Everything is a win in my book

Also, I already have my Cloud+ so I'm not in a hurry ;)

Swagger Barrel looks like a very simplified HT that looks like it will chug/retain more flavor.

Just to be sure, that's going to cost 49$? For that price I will add one in my order for sure :haw:

Is there any chance I could just send you guys $50 and shipping for a Swagger Barrel? 'Only had my EVO for a day so far but could always use more toys :D:D:D

Hey, at least they didn't hold it for long. Stuff coming in to the US can get held by our customs for a loooong time. Got my Mobius Nano Matrrx from an FCer in Australia. US Customs held on to it for NINE MONTHS before delivering it to me.

Canada Post did this to you guys? Geeez. I thought only FedEx and UPS (and DHL probably) did the ransom thing. That sucks! Is it taxes because of the items value?

38.95 in customs charges for me, which I was not happy about at all. My box had been opened as well.

"Import Duty Charges" are all the context I've been able to get. Canada Post usually does not do this, I was kind of surprised.

I'm shocked. I've never heard of a non-private carrier doing such a thing!
My greatest condolences to every Canadian Evo owner :(

It was a bummer paying more just to get the unit.
When my Herbie arrived, FEDEX just handed the package over to me, no extra costs involved.

Oh well the EVO is here and it is almosty time to get down to business!!

I'm not Canadian, but my sister lives in VC, and I work in a law firm that does work in Canada pretty regularly. These rates DO vary, under Canadian law, depending on whether entering Canada through commercial private shipping vs public post. However, they also can vary pretty dramatically depending on what province you live in. Many provinces have an additional provincial tax for imported items as well, but some don't (I know BC does but Nunavut does not).

It probably doesn't help that VXL is a much more recognizable name now, specifically as a piece of expensive consumer electronics, even if folks don't necessarily know what its for. I was shocked to overhear coworkers - asshole lawyers, actually - talking about the EVO. Not for use, of course - they are asshole lawyers - but as an example of 'new business opportunities in the changing legal environment'.

This is the case, but in Canada we have a huge problem with companies like FedEx and UPS taking advantage of the rather ambiguous laws and customer ignorance to impose arbitrary fees on people importing packages, in addition to the normal costs levied on imports. Coupled with the fact that companies often pay the taxes as part of shipping, getting a bill at the post box is something that usually raises a red flag for us.

After doing more research I've found that the costs I paid were the following:
  • 28.50 Harmonized Sales Taxes (on 219.00$ declared value)
  • 9.95 Handling Charges
Considering that I've received vaporizers values higher than that through Canada Post without getting similar charges, I am hoping this is a one time thing.

If this happened to enough people in a manner inconsistent with but not necessarily in violation of the law, in the US (until relatively recently) you and other affected people could easily form a class action and sue. Don't know if you have class or mass actions in Canada - not my area. The EU mostly doesn't.

There's a couple large Canadian firms that have initiated class action against FedEx or UPS for this behavior. This is the one that I've been following closest. I have faith that sooner or later it will make it through the courts but it's frustrating in the meantime.

Though in this case, these are brokerage fees in question and not the legitimate fees I had to pay to get my Cloud EVO. I was not charged any brokerage on this.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep an eye on that and related cases. I can actually do it on the clock :).

Just put my order in for the Evo.

Even though i pre ordered in November I never got an email, so i figured just buying one off the site would work just as good.

Im excited to get my evo and the Barrel

next time i post in here it will hopefully be a review of the Evo.

cheers

I am the Vapor King--I can do anything
I wish I was posting a video or review right now, but unfortunately my post is a sombre one:(. I've been waiting for my Cloud(s) for months now. SM55 was very kind to allow me to jump on the Trade-In deal even though I was late, but since then my experience has been a headache.

After talking to SM, I shipped in my Ticker which VXL lost. They ended up finding it later--about 3 weeks later. They said they would ship it back to me. That was the beginning of December. I still Don't have my Ticker.

As for my EVO, there is no excuse for me not having it. I'm at the Indiegogo Trade-In level, and pre-order people have gotten there's. My tracking still only says electronic shipping received. According to VXL, it was picked up at the warehouse on Wednesday. I talked to a supervisor at USPS and they have no record of ever receiving the package. This is BOGUS.

Now VXL is telling me I won't have the package until Monday, when I'll be out of the state. I still have no tracking on it, though, so it's really anybody's guess at this point. Maybe 2015 is my year:doh:.

EDIT: XVL resolved my issue.

Yes you were, that's what the $9.95 is. In the past, Canada Post was inconsistent about charging duties and taxes, but a couple of years ago they started to become more consistent, and now it seems little gets past them without charges. I believe the only way to be sure that you will not get charged is with a declared value of under $10. Everyone pays GST, but the total charge will vary depending on the tax policy of the destination province.
