Cleaning a quartz domeless nail

I have a quartz domeless nail. I've never used quartz. I know I can burn anything off in the pot, can I use ISO to soak the reclaim from the center tube?

I use quartz all the time. It's a little bit of a bitch balancing the temp cause after each load you have to burn off what ever remains. I usually soak it in ISO over night and once its kinda clean, I burn the rest off.

With that being said, once you've used quartz there's no going back.

I just soak mine in ISO every couple nights.

Quartz has been my favorite for a long time. I recently got some custom Boro nails. I have been enjoying the flavor.

Quartz domeless is what's really good. The first few days with it were difficult because of the plastic-like taste but this quickly went away.

I've heard that boro get's red the quickest out of the 3. (glass, quartz, boro) I'd like to eventually try Boro.

Boro defiantly gets hot. But it is not faster then the others. It heats up the slowest, but retains the heat the longest. It has the best thermal expansion numbers. So should withstand the abuse better. My first 18mm Boro nail lasted 3x longer than any other glass type nail I have owned(15+).

Here are there Thermal conductivity values. The lower the number the longer it takes to heat. But the better it retains that heat. Yes Titanium does not hold heat the best. No matter what anyone else tries to tell you. I have run experiments on this for years.

Boro =1.14 W/(m·K)
Glass =1.2 W/(m·K)
Quartz=1.4 W/(m·K)
Ti2 =16.4-21.9 W/(m·K)

ya, it's just the center tube. it's not in the bowl itself. Next Level, Quartz holds heat that much longer than Ti?

No not that much longer. But it is longer. Here are some other values that might help give you a scale. But even then not sure it will help. Sorry my bad I forget everyone hasn't studied these things.

Air =0.025 W/(m·K)
Iron =80 W/(m·K)
Aluminium =205 W/(m·K)
Copper =390 W/(m·K)

I am stealing this from the Highly Educated Blog. They wont mind.

"Its easy to see why we could incorrectly assume titanium retains heat longer than glass or quartz because with daily use we notice the titanium gets much hotter after 30 seconds of heating than the glass does. This isn’t because the glass couldn’t retain the heat, its because the glass wasn’t heated long enough to get to temperature in the first place due to its low thermal conductivity value. Look at those numbers again, you would probably want to torch glass or quartz at least 5x longer if not more to reach the same temperature levels you reach with titanium. So the fallacy we have heard so often that “titanium retains heat better than boro or quartz” needs to be corrected to “titanium has a higher thermal conductivity value than boro or quartz”."

I can't wait to get the new ceramic nail. Two companies are making them, KO and Hive Ceramics. I was told mine was shipping next week.

I totally get the boro thing, heck - pyrex invented it in 1915. I'd say it worked out.

Most confuse boro and quartz. In fact boro Syndicate nails are actually made from quartz. I've had numerous people mistake boro because of the logo numerous times.

I'm also a chef, ever put your torch on a pyrex dish? Yes it does have very low coefficients of thermal expansion but true boro/silica glass glows like a mother fucker.

True borosilicate nails aren't found easily.

This ain't my first rodeo in the glass field or nails.

Hope you didn't take offense to my posts. Posted my info for everyone.

Yep only found a couple Boro nails over the last 2 years. I have some Boro domeless on order. Can send you one if you like to try them out.

Where did you order your ceramic nail from? Guessing its the Hive Ceramics.

No dude, no offense taken. I'd love to try a boro domeless. Shoot me a pm, let's chat it up.
