Netflix Vs. Amazon Prime

My face is melting...
I was going to ask on the netflixx thread if anyone has preference between the two but didn't want to hijack the thread.

I was a longtime NF streaming customer but got kind of pissed by what seemed to me, diminishing selection.

Recently I joined amazon prime and have been familiarizing myself with their instant viewing service.

Which one is more expensive?

We have DirecTV, so have never needed Netflix. However, it seems that Amazon Prime offers more with their membership.

$79/ Yr. for prime. I remember NF being more than this.

You get free access to their cloud drive. Many of the CD's that I've purchased have automatically downloaded to the cloud drive, even the one's purchase years ago. I can also download my music from my PC to the cloud.

Plus prime gives you free/ 2 day shipping on most orders and there's some kind of kindle perk too.

Living in a relatively isolated community, this is good as it's often faster and definitely cheaper to mail order than drive somewhere to get what you need.

I bought most my growing supplies off of amazon.

It almost seems too good to be true. We'll probably all get screwed when everyone is part of the Amazon.com matrix.

Available in Canada?
I don't see why not, though I honestly don't know.

Available in Canada?

Amazon Prime is available in Canada. Amazon Instant Video, which is included in the US, is not available in Canada. That's most likely because broadcast rights are already owned in Canada.

Is this included with my prime or is it additional? /lazy

All inclusive....

It worked like this for me. I bought a MFLB from one of the vendors that uses ADC for fulfillment.

I opened a line of credit, got it for $39.94 after some kind of promotional thing and they automatically enrolled me for prime for free for 60 days (I think). Of course I forgot about it and stayed enrolled but am kind of glad I did.

Kind of a no-brainer. I'm just really hoping I don't wind up hating Amazon some day when they drive all retailers out of business.

I have both. There is a ton of overlap. Want to watch American Horror Story? It's on both of them. I've watched almost everything on netflix, and Amazon has a much larger selection. The only place I rank neflix higher is they have some interesting independent films I've not seen elsewhere. I just watched Special starring Michael Rappaport on netflix (great movie about how the little guy gets chewed up in big pharma politics).

Between the free 2 day shipping, the streaming movies/tv, and the cloud drive and player, Amazon (Prime) is difficult to beat.

I had Amazon Prime, but was really never able to make it work with our TV set up.

I picked all kinds of movies through the website, but could never get that selection through the TV.

Add that to other factors, and I cancelled my APrime. Not worth it to me. Netflix gives me disks and streaming, no problem.

I prefer my Prime Account because it has so much more utility than my Netflix account... I could really do without Netflix but I'm not a huge movie watcher either.

Anyone checked out Hulu Plus? I don't know what it offers but I believe its similar to Amazon Instant Video

Great Scott!
I've had both. Currently only netflix.

Amazon prime is cool because it comes with free shipping on SOME stuff, but the movie and tv selection is much worse IMO.

I was surprised when a poster above said Amazon had a larger collection. That must include paid videos though, right- not just the free with Prime ones? No doubt you can find tons of stuff to stream on Amazon that isn't available on Netflix, but it's .99- $2.99 to watch.

We also have Comcast On Demand, Xfinity, and HBO GO. Not to mention the possibility of torrents.

It's insane to think that like a decade ago, the idea that you could watch practically any movie or TV show ever made, whenever you want to, was still considered science fiction!

I went through my AP last night. It has more TV content then Netflix. The good thing is there is not much overlap. I will compare movies tonight. But it looked like AP would win that one also. Especially since Netflix is about to lose 50 something movies.

I have not had TV since 2003. So its not that hard for me to believe. I got Netflix in 2000. Torrents have been around since 2001 and we had Napster and others before that.

Now its Torrents+Netflix+AmozonPrime. Netflix is on the way out..

Downward spiral
I also use both Netfix and Amazon Prime. Never had any issues running either service thru our PS3 on the TV. Good bit of overlap, imo, but we added AP for the cheaper and faster shiping options, movies were a bonus. Cut the Directv cord awhile back, wasted entertainment $$ for our TV needs. Dropped $30 on a Mohu antenna to pickup local channels(tv tuner picks up over 45 ota channels where we reside), and we are set for the shows we enjoy. Torrents round out the few shows/movies we may miss.

DTV---$85 x 12 months = $1020 annually

VERSUS

Netflix streaming---$7.99 x 12 months = $95.88 annually
Amazon Prime---$79.99 annually
Mohu hd antenna---$$30.00 one time
25th anniversary Madden NFL ps3 game which included a one year sub to NFL Sunday Ticket---$99.00

One year savings....

Over $700...to spend on new vape gear(I wish)!

Have both.

Netflix is a much better application and has way more content. The AMazon prime service has a horrific interface, terrible Queue management and the content is sparse and random.

That being said, I use Amazon prime all the time because some stuff is exclusive.

Vikings HD and The Sara Connor Chronicles are 2 examples of shows only Prime has that I watched.

I'm setting the cap at 2 streaming services. I can't take on a 3rd just for anime or NBC shows! Too much already!

Thanks for the heads up on the Vikings series. I remember hearing about it a while ago, and i happen to have Prime now.

Manage your expectations before you watch it, it's only 9 episodes and the writing can be very uneven. It's no Game of Thrones... but I dug it.

The acting and the setting are the best parts.

I like that they have the daily show (1 week delay) on Prime, but I really barely use it otherwise, nice to hear about some of their other exclusives.

Just as an aside, the app for Amazon Prime on Wii U is confusing but works much MUCH better than their browser one, just as a heads up if you have that option.

OK, I decided to check out Hulu.

A question to those that subscribe, if you go with the plus, do you have access to all seasons/series of the shows?

I signed up for the free trial subscription, and I'm not sure if I'm only getting partial access, or if Hulu only gives you limited what I see.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanx,
