has anyone used these? they sound great. i hate using coffee filters. currently i filter first with a gold tone coffee filter, then filter again through an unbleached coffee filter. i hate losing oil to the paper filter absorbing so much.

From what I can gather, the meanskreenz are meant to be prepped with vegetable oil to infuse the screen fabric with it. Therefore, with the fabric already infused with oil, no additional oil will be absorbed and will simply pass through unabated. I am only deducing that from their web page under Cleaning Instructions:
Cleaning Instructions:
  • Wash with rubbing alcohol
  • Rinse with warm water
  • Pat dry
  • Dab with small amount of vegetable oil or olive oil
  • Work the oil into the material
  • Pat dry again soaking up excess oil

yeah i saw the cleaning instructions. i wonder if you have to use the veg/olive oil when they are brand new and unused...? or if water would work instead? soak the screen before filtering perhaps?

Water and oil don't mix so... Probably not.

i was thinking of it like a paper filter i suppose. i soak an unbleached coffee filter quickly before filtering oil through it. it helps keep the paper from absorbing as much oil.

i have emailed the company with some questions. i will post an update when i hear back from them.

I've used the 120 micron mean skreenz since I was gifted some at the Cannabis Cup. I love em, super easy to clean, they don't steal much, if any of your yield, and they are reusable many, many times. Only complaint is that if you are using a stainless steel hose clamp, then the screen can get small rips in it from the threading on the clamp. You just have to be aware of that and find ways to work around it.

I simply clean them with ISO and let them dry. I don't introduce vegetable oil or anything else to the process, never saw the point and I don't think I would like dabbing vegatable oil haha.

i was thinking about the SS hose clamps tearing the mesh. suppose a piece of silicone tubing between the screen and clamp would do the trick.

still waiti g to hear back from the MFG.

That sounds like a good fix. You could also try nylon cable ties. What I'm doing now is simply being more cautious when I tighten the clamp. I make sure to be aware of the mesh getting caught in the clamp, and to not over tighten it.

They make sleeved clamps so the hose wont get ripped. You can also try worm drive clamps. I use these in automotive applications all the time.

yeah i know they make sleeved clamps, but not sure of the rubber used. likely butyl or neoprene. not that it comes into contact with the run, but im OCD with this shit. so ive already got some nice thumb turn SS clamps and some silicone tubing i can get to work.

i dont like the cable tie route. then they gotta be cut off and only used once. i much prefer hose clamps.

i am making a new extraction tube altogether. i will post pics of it with the silicone lined clamps when its all ready. im using a really nice peice of super polished SS tubing. used in food and pharm production. then to cap the ends off i am using a high purity silicone stoppers, but making expandable hole plugs out of them with SS hardware (w/ wingnut for easy use). basically you fit the stopper snuggly into hole and tighten the wingnut. this compresses the stopper forcing its OD outward hence sealing the stopper even more. they do make silicone expandable plugs already assembled, but i want to use high purity silicone and i cant find any exp plugs of that material. making them should be a breeze.

LOL @ the 20 min review for an oil slick pad haha. Most vape reviews arent even that long. I suggest getting stoned out of your mind and watching the entire vid. The dude is a complete trip and says and does some hilarious stuff.

Anyone tried these over cheese cloth for making butter?

I have used coffee filters before for cannabutter and those take forever to strain compared to cheese cloth, so I would imagine the mean screenz would take just as long if not even longer. It's just too fine for that type of use IMO.

aesthyrian,
im working on a connection with a guy that sells 25 and 50 micron SS screens. I have used both, and it makes the clearest oil I've ever seen.
Will report back once I have some info from him.

i have read online recently where paper coffee filters are between 10-20 microns. so if this is the case then i cant see meanskreenz 50 micron being very beneficial except for the fact that they are reusable.

a 25 micron reusable mesh sounds VERY interesting to me. keep us/me posted on that shit.

I haven't got a hold of him yet, but my buddy talked to him yesterday, and my buddies store is going to carry all of his shit.
I guess the guy said he almost has some 10-15 micron locked in, and if he gets them, its known to take another level of fats out of it. Yield may be affected, but the purity would be out of this world.
The 25 micron already gives me the cleanest taste, with very minimal paraffins and fats noticeable. The evo helps me gauge the impurities a little, as the first rip is all flavor and goods, and the second is sorta waxy flavored and wispy. I notice a lot less waxy flavor in the 25micron compared to some good Colorado wax.
Maybe I can post a pic of the clarity.

Despite coffee filters being 10-20 micron, I believe they ad some extra stuff that is not wanted. Also, if they start at 10-20 micron, whats the size after its been blasted?
I don't know.
Maybe I can get him on here, his screens are seriously something to shout at the mountain tops.
