Ok. It charged incredibly fast. Taste is great. Inline with the ascent and solo. There's definitely some technique required. Draw speed seems to play a really big role here. Draw to hard and the heater can not keep up. I'm very medicated but wasn't getting giant clouds. It really does have a mflb feel to it because it takes technique and you can give it a shake torn stir the herb. These are my impressions so far off of one session with blue cheese. I will be trying several different strains and grinds throughout the day and reporting back. I am somewhat impressed so far but would like to start seeing some clouds like the vape critic was getting. I am an admitted cloud chaser and flavor whore! Lol

modnote: back to back posts merged.

Ok my lackluster clouds were totally strain based!!! It must've been because of that sticky icky blue cheese cause I just put in some of my very cured lemonhead in it and it was cloud city! I mean wow! It'll hang with any of the big boys as far as portables go. The vape critics preheat technique is spot on actually. So far so great!

Sounds great thanks for reporting back so soon. Is it possible to pull it out of the pocket and get a hit within say 10 seconds?

If it does have good airflow and I don't see how it couldn't, I'm pulling the trigger.

Edit- damn they aren't messing around at $85 for an extra batter and external charger. Seems like a must though

Airflow is great. I'm quickly seeing that it is in fact all about the airflow. Your draw speed controls everything including the temperature. The faster you draw the wispier the hits. But give it a 5-8 count preheat and then let off then you can rage the button and give it an even slow draw. No on off on off. Hold it down and use draw technique to control everything.

It's pretty badass! Tastes amazing ALL the way through. Very heady high. Very evenly extracted abv, light golden brown when done (looks like tobacco). I use only my own grown TOP shelf 100% organic meds. So this is premium frosty stuff going through it.

So to put it simply, my impressions thus far are this:

I'm charging it completely before I test it. I will post pics but a video review is not likely as I'm not a video type of guy. I will provide you with as detailed feedback as possible though.

My initial impression so far that this is the heaviest most solidly built portable I've ever had in my hands. And I've had them all!

Glad it finally showed up dude! Congrats! I agree with you on the solidly built bit. It is truly a marvel of design and elegance and build quality. And i had two *highly* successful sessions yesterday.Anxious to hear your thoughts once you've played with it. I'm gonna use it a couple more days and then do a more complete write up of my FF "take two" experience.

Fast report! I agree about the draw. Also worth sharing that the FF team sent me their "tips" for best results. Hold the button down, like you said, 4-8 second precount. Start drawing. Let off the button in mid hit. Keep drawing to carb out the rest of the vapor. DON'T pulse or hit the button a second time (in other words, ignore the Vape Critic!)...that can start the heat cycle again and cause a "hot hit".

Thanks for the review V&C, I am waiting on 2 GH, and a Herbie, so I guess I will keep my eye on this little monster as well. Nice buds, feel free to shoot me a pm and we can discuss tech if you like........

Thanks for the info, V&C.. Based on your first impressions, sounds exactly like what I have been looking for!

Hopefully mine shows up Friday, stuck in FedEx tracking limbo since last Friday. Driving me nuts that these guys are west-coast based but are shipping out of FL. Ugghh, FedEx..

@mitchgo61 - Any more combustion incidents with the new FF?

Sounds like a low temp vape, which is what some thought it might be. I wonder if it tops out on the low end like the original Pinnacle, or if you can adjust your technique to get hotter hits and darker abv. I hope you are able to give this some testing.

I am still in the testing phase sticks but you can bet your bottom dollar I'll put it through its paces and keep you updated along the way. I do feel that I would like to see a little more darkly extracted abv but I believe that will also come from technique. I'd like to add that it seems to prefer a nice fluffy fully filled bowl. I'm thinking between .07-.09.

Seems to require a little finer grind, and a little more heat, to get it darker. I find some stirring and some breaking down of material midway through a bowl helps get it to the next level of darkness. I've yet to be able to get those final few hits off a bowl in the FF, the way I can with a Solo. Not giving up though!

The only reason I want to see a video review is to envy the clouds. :p Another cloud chaser here too.

Ok, for the hell of it I decided to toss a nug in the firefly chamber no grind. I thought to myself that usually a convection vape is capable of doing unground nugs. Anyways, yes it is. The firefly works very well with unground nugs. Still thick clouds but the flavor is on par with my enano! If you've used an enano then you're impressed right now! Lol.

Anyways I am really digging the firefly. Very heady sativa type buzz from this unit regardless of the strain. Which is what I look for in a portable vape that I'm to be out and about with. You don't usually want that couch lock buzz when you're on the go.

Edit: also I am now getting much fuller/darker extraction of my herb now that I've got my tech down pretty pat.

Edit#2: I just noticed my 1 year anniversary as a member here at FC was just a couple hours ago. I was a lurker for quite some time before. I'm so happy to have been here. You guys and this site have literally changed my life. Thanks for a great year.

Its great to see positive reviews for the Firefly... had high hopes for this one :)

I am worried a bit about it being a low temp vape as sticks pointed out. I have found that I need higher temperatures than what most of you use, maybe due to the strains in my side of the world. e.g. I Start hitting the Solo at 6 and go to 7 after a few draws.

@VaPeD&CoNfUsEd Could you somehow provide relative heat info between the Solo and the FF? At what setting would you hit the Solo to get similar levels of extraction?

The 2 vapes are so opposite it'd be hard to do that kind of comparison. The firefly revolves soley around draw speed. I'm finding more and more little things with every session. It is capable of the kind of abv you'd see come out of a solo at level 6 I'd say.

But so was the original Pinnacle. I'm more interested in your high impressions (such as the head high comment without the couch lock) because this is indicative of a low temp vape experience. The Pinnacle makes for a very even extraction that gets darker than you would expect on the lower temps. If the upper limit of this thing is 400F then there is no way to get the upper temp actives. I think we will all have a better idea after VnC has had about a week to play with it and get his draw technique down for different experiences. Hopefully the draw can be tweaked enough to get the higher temps.

Well, despite my positive early impressions, i'm now wondering if I have a faulty unit, or some kind of weirdness with hearing control. Three times today i inadvertently achieved combustion. Two of the three times happened really quickly, within ten seconds of holding the button down on a fresh load. Both of these two times, I could swear (not in a court of law, but i'm pretty sure it happened) that i heard an audible "click" right before i started getting burn taste and clearly the beginning of combustion. The third time was less dramatic, and occurred while holding the button down for at least 15 seconds on a partially-vaped load. but i clearly saw a couple of small black pieces in the bowl.

Ironically last night i was unable to get a load past a certain level of darkness, basically what i expected from a unit that doesn't exceed 400f. So i think the top screen thing wasn't the culprit of too much heat, but rather the unit has some issue with the regulation of the heating element. I emailed the FF folks, so I'll let you guys know what they say.

Just combusted a bit ago myself. :/
Not entirely sure what is going on; I was using a screen on top of the bowl though when it happened.
Following the VapeCritics hold button for 8 seconds, let go for one, hold for 4 then draw method.
This did not happen at all yesterday during the 3 initial bowls. (All with the screen on top)

As the VC said, each user will have a different experience. So many things at play...temp of unit, temp of air, humidity, dryness of herbs, etc. Ideally, the FF should be able to mitigate all of that and those factors shouldn't matter. The FF just takes some getting to know, just like all vapes.

"Et tu, Brute?"

His method is most definitely not working for you, that's for sure.

It worked fine for the first 3 bowls. Nothing changed in between.
Going to play around today and try and isolate what exactly is causing this.
Combustion happened near the end of the bowl when the herbs were drier.
When it did combust it happened almost immediately. From no vapors to immediate smoke.

I am able to get the higher temp actives now I believe. It really is all about each persons technique. I cannot make mine combust! I've tried hard. I've used a screen on top and everything. All I'm achieving now is pretty dark brown abv. No black specks or anything.

Thanks mate! I think I have finally found my battery power equivalent to the Lotus! I was talking about this since day one that we heard of the Firefly on this thread! Your testimonials are here to prove me right!
Full convection, plenty of heat on demand, very fast preheating, easy to clean, built like a tank, great taste! What else can a vape power-user need? It's not as economic and the short battery life leaves something of a bitter taste but there is nothing else available right now that can touch these attributes and be more silent than the Lotus and also wind-proof! I am going to order one through some friends in Canada most possibly since they don't ship internationally! At last!!! Then I'll also get a Nano for parties so I can fill Vapor Lungs and I will be most complete!!! :D :D :D

Yes, this was my experience. Draw, no vapor. BAM! Combustion, mouth starts filling with smoke. So quick, so dramatic, it's impossible to believe technique plays a part. My problem started occurring after one bowl...so it was apparent early on.

Good to hear you have used the top screen. I may try it again tonight. Been skittish about it, but i seriously doubt it's a factor. Actually i just got a call from a FF person (again, great service) checking in to make sure unit 2 was working for me, and i told her all was well. Asked again about the top screen...her feeling was it's not ideal for the design, but she didn't seem to think it impacted temps.

I can only conclude that Necro may have a unit acting weirdly like mine did. I have been unable to get my new one anywhere close to combustion no matter how much i lean on the button. I can get the material dark, but not burned. Necro, give them a call if you feel you have a faulty unit. Honestly their service and responsiveness is impeccable.

I guess all new vapes have their issues. I appreciate all you early adopters helping them get the kinks out. I will be following this thread closely. I think i would prefer this unit over the ascent.
