Prohibitions only last hope.

So I was talking with a die hard fanatical republican, (who doesn't like to admit around democrats he's a republican).

And a few friends of mine joined me to have tea with him since it was saturday and Saturday Teas awesome.

And he told us he really can't understand why prohibition is not working he noticed.

And we told him that prohibition will never work as long as there is a desire for the plant.

I told him there is one only way then therefore logically that prohibiting this plant would work.

And that's if you take away the desire. So there you have it problem solved.

Now all the DEA has to do is some how some way find a plant that can do everything industrial that hemp can do and everything that medicinal cannabis can do and just like with cannabis it has to be virtually with no side effects.

To which he got angry and said but that is not the solution. We asked him why.

It is not the solution because there is no plant that can do what hemp can do for the world.

To which we said EXACTLY!

There really isn't anything about the legalization of MJ that goes against the main principles laid out by the GOP. Just wanted to throw that out there.

But it does go against the social tenants of conservatives and conservatives and the GOP is just about synonymous these days...........unfortunately. There was a time when there was such a thing as liberal republicans, but they are so rare these days, that they're not even on the endangered species list anymore.

Labels only separate us. I'm a republican...

Like religion, most of us are born and raised with these labels and most of us are either too damn lazy or too set in our ways to search out and learn about other alternatives.

It's amazing to me, as an example, that conservatives and liberals will only watch either Fox or MSNBC respectively, but God forbid if it is suggested that they watch something that doesn't already support their belief system that they were raised with for they only want to be exposed to that which they already believe and refuse to consciously have those beliefs challenged.

This is going to go off track real quick. No one and nothing is perfect, and its always easier to point the finger when shit hits the fan. Human nature I suppose. Because of this I don't subscribe to any one party line, I typically just look for what makes sense at the time. Like Bruce Lee said, "Be like water". Usually though, I just like to call out obvious bullshit regardless of political leanings.

That being said;

My face is melting...
As soon as a solid majority of the voting Republicans consider cannabis use socially acceptable (and I believe it's inevitable) , prohibition is doomed.

In fact, I would say that the best chances for legalization falls in with the ability to gain support within the GOP. I doubt that the divide is as great as many may think.

I bet most of these guys lean towards the right on most issues besides prohibition: http://www.leap.cc/

What exactly is it truthfully that republicans as a general group have against medicinal marijuana? I know that they are purposely lying when they say that it does not have any medical benefits because. Well lets face it. There is way too much proof to back up the medicinal benefits.

I know they are lying when they say it is a gateway drug because once again the evidence does not support it.

I know they are purposely being untruthful when they say say that every thing they do because in comparison to the evidence it's a no brainer.

So why again?

Lobbyists from the pharmaceutical, alcohol companies, etc., are writing all these politicians big fat checks to keep cannabis illegal. As long as someone pays them enormous amounts of cash, they will always vote to keep it that way.

Here's the deal. The only reason why it's a Republican thing is because most all Republicans are conservative. Being liberal or conservative is MUCH more than just a political leaning. It is how most of us live our lives. It's the way we were brought up.

It's been my experience that, in general, that liberals have more of an open mind about things. More curiosity. More willing to try something new, more willing to explore new ideas. By definition: "Open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values"---Websters.

By definition, conservatives: "Holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation"---Websters

This is true in regards to MJ, to global warming, to science in general versus religion, gay rights, gun controls, immigration, etc, etc.

Dude, you are so caught up on that whole "republican" thing. I'm a republican, I like smaller government, a strong military, the right to bear arms etc.

I also favor legalization, gay rights, love Grateful Dead music and eat a lot of mushrooms.

Give up on the labels, the polarization and demonizing of your political opposites and you'll find life is so much more lovely.

Deadhead, while you do have a point that not everything is black and white, Driscoll does have a point being that most all Republicans are conservatives and as such, in general, follow the guidelines that I posted above. Are there exceptions to the rule? Yup.

Why does it always have to be about politics? People say I'm a Liberal because I have empathy, and believe like the new Pope does. I'm Independent. I just have empathy and I give a damn what happens to people. I don't believe food stamps should be cut to balance the budget. I don't believe that Veterans should be screwed to balance the budget. All things the Republican politicians have no problem doing, I've noticed.

Because policies that regulate any activity require politics. I don't think that drones should be taking out innocent bystanders in a far-away land, which is something the democrats seem to support. The whole anti-war movement has gone by the wayside since we went from bush to obama. Fuck both parties, Jefferson said that we need a revolution at least once every generation. We need to have one sooner than later, or at least have a real third/populist party emerge. Because right now the .1%/elites seems hell-bent on dragging the rest of the world down with them, and that's not cool at all.

Happy monday :peace: :2c:

Saw a toy commercial. And I quote "You can get a spiderman for him and a barbie for her so come on in and save today".

Can you believe that. Those as holes were basically labeling the general norm of kids of what they want based on their sex even though the very rare few in comparison to the norm would rather play and act against their labels.

Liberal/Democrat/Conservative/Republican...all labels used to drive wedges between people who actually agree on most things. Me, I'm just an independent thinking American. Basically I want the smallest government possible that can still protect me from the evil in the world, make sure everybody plays fairly, helps those who REALLY can't help themselves, and keeps people from hurting each other. Other than that I just want the government to leave me alone and stay out of my business. - "A wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government." Thomas Jefferson First inaugural address, 1801

I'm sorry, but I don't believe they are all completely the same. I'm sick of the Republicans and Tea Party politicians thinking it's ok to balance the budget on the backs of the poor, elderly, children, currently enlisted military and Veterans. WTF? Really? What the fuck is wrong with these son's a bitches? Let's not forget they also keep trying to cut Social Security too, which has NOTHING to do with the deficit. They only want to cut it because the fuckers have been stealing our money for decades. Best way for them to not pay us back? Gut the program. And dumbass voters back them on this. Oh yeah, and let's block every god damned thing the black president wants to do, and fuck up the country in the process, gov't shutdown's, etc. Fucking assholes.

I agree the republicans are definitely the party of meanies, and they feed on fear.

The problem is that the dems are pretty fucked up too.

I would vote for the "all citizens get an annual cash dividend (stimulates the economy), and free weed too" party!

Vicki can you show me where the Republicans are shitting on the vets? I wonder why 80% of military and vets are Republicans? I wonder why the Republicans in the Senate are trying to stop the budget agreement today that singled out the military/Vets? Those Liberals that control the Senate why are they all voting yes to cut military benefits? So confused am I....

Just sitting here from the true middle. Laughing at both sides.
