Kinda weird that I'm the only one so far that feels like 400 is a bit too high. I don't like going over 380, both for taste and for health reasons.

It's not like the PD, lwien. ;) It doesn't have one fixed temperature. You don't have to take it to the max. You can control it by pulsing the heat. Also, it will be like the LB in that you'll be able to control it by your inhaling technique. I find that with the devices I've used that work like this (MFLB, FV, Volta, Palm 2.0) I can tell from the taste and temperature when to stop the heating. I doubt you'd have much difficulty.

I think we need to get the laser thermo and maybe some FLIR cameras and see where we are.

nah...that's par for the course!

Yeah, guess I should be used to it by now, eh? ;)

Ok Paka. You sold me. Now where's the FireFly Haiku contest?

Well it seems Da Vinci has fixed most of the problems with the Ascent, and with all new vaporizers I'm sure there will be some problems with the firefly. and whether or not you enjoy concentrate out of the pax is irrelevant because the firefly is designed for flower only, it is just another advantage pax has on firefly. maybe you could drop a little wax into the FF oven, but if vape critic was having clogging problems strictly with flower, I would'nt even try it.

Come on mate... Don't try to compare a shitty tasting full conduction vape like the Pax, Ascent, PnP to a full convection like the Firefly, Cera, Lotus, Hammer etc. It's like night and day in efficiency and taste... Convection vs conduction has been fully analysed in the past around here...

Wow with all the things I expected in my vaped brain, it's a real deception and the deal is broken now.

Of course we've seen a nice cloud production (that needs a learning curve)

But ! I really was waiting a smaller unit ! definitely a "home portable vaporizer " because of his size of course and also the way you need to handle it ….

considering nowadays other competitors in the same price range ,the battery is a second deal breaker IMO …..

to be honest I do not see where it can be useful to me :not a portable, not a real home unit (whose IMO must be comfortable to use and productive) ….so what is it ?

probably not a bad device ;it does the job that's right , but to me ….it hasn't a real sense and comes one year too late ,today I won't pay more than 150$ for it .

dealing about already available competitors:

Outside I'll keep one using my LB, waiting for an Ascent that does what he promised to do

Inside my dear Venus Vape is still ruling as a REAL"transportable" vaporizer which is huger than the FF OK but it gives me an halogenic powered session close to 40 minutes ……and not only 20 puffs .

If I had to advise a friend on a tricky deal ,It would be easier to me to talk him about the grasshopper than the Firefly.

If I'm not mistaken, you fucked that post all up! The PnP (Pinnacle Pro, right?) is mostly convection, but still has average taste. The Ascent is all glass and tastes as good as anything I have tried. And I think the Hammer is conduction (I can't remember right now)? And some would argue that the first hits off a conduction vape taste as good as anything, although the taste gets shittier quicker after that.

@Zee007 -- you could easily put some oil on some cotton/hemp in the bowl and vape it perfectly.

Probably I wasn't quite right there... But I remember reading posts about Ascent being average in taste compared to a Solo? I don't see how the PNP is convection based though... Is the air path similar to the Bud Toaster somehow? Oh, and the Hammer is full convection... ;)

EDIT: First draws might be good but it gets shitty faaaast...

Shitty tasting?? I understand there is difference, but at the end of the day it is all personal preference. conduction or convection, the vapor quality from every vape you mentioned has had good reviews (including pax and ascent).

Agreed, nothing about the firefly is revolutionary for a portable vape for its price.

What makes this vape stand out from its competition:
-Its looks
-removable battery (which doesn't last long)
-on demand controlled heat through convection
-capability of forming big clouds (cool, but if this was the focus I would be disapointed... one of a portable device's top priorities should be stealth, this is just the opposite)

Nothing about this vape stands out compared to the rest on the market for portability. I'm not trying to bash this vape, it is a wonderful product, but it is almost 2014 and I'm ready to see something that really changes/improves the current portable vaping experience for flower. Right now portable vapes feel like the call of duty series as of late. They all function pretty similarly, but every new installment looks a little different. Besides the fact COD is actually affordable...

When it comes to portability the focus should be on (IMO):
-functionality
-smaller size (pocket size, SOMETHING SMALLER THAN MY SMART PHONE!!)
-stealth
-longer battery life
-decent cartridge size
-versatile, user friendly, accurate temp
-even heating
-durability
-easy cleaning
quick, on the go, easy to carry, discreet, and reliable medication

Once all of this is mastered then looks should come into play. I really don't think there is any decent portable flower vaporizer on the market right now that can justify it's price. My oil pen is less than half the price (even more than half) and suits portability so much better than this and many of the other portable flower vapes on the market.

EDIT:
sorry kind of going on a little rant here. I'll take part of that call of duty comment back. because there has been some nice improvements with the most recent portable flower vaporizers. PAX came through with its size, ascent with its gog vapor path and impeccable flavor as well as it's water pipe adapter (which is nice for us connoisseurs but does nothing for portability), and the firefly's removable battery. now how do we put all these advantages into one .

You don't usually see complaints about the taste of full convection vapes. The same cannot be said about any vaporiser that does a fair amount of conduction heating. Care to make a poll about how many people hate the Pax's taste. It's not just personal preferences.

As for your obsession on portability, the Firefly is marketed as portable, not as a super stealthy pocketable portable. Wanna come over to the Solo's thread maybe and make some comments on it's portability? The Firefly besides it's weight is much more pocketable than the Solo due to it's flat design...
And you should better try some full manual on-demand heated vapes to really be able to grasp why it's so important for some of us. Need to make an auto car/full manual racing one comparison here?

The reason why I'm not commenting on the arizer solos portability is because it came out in 2011. I think there should be a hand held category for vaporizers like the solo, because calling them portable just doesn't make sense to me. I'm not calling the firefly a bad vaporizer, but I do not think it should fall under the portable category.

But it IS portable... You can move it from place to place... And it is also pocketable if you have a big enough pocket. And the Firefly is more pocketable. Even for medium pockets...

But the FF is also really heavy. Better be wearing a belt if you're gonna be puttin' it in your pants pocket. ;)

Sure, but portability means nothing if it isn't practical. 9/10 someone looking for a portable vape wants the ability to carry it around where ever they go, out of the house. If someone asked me what kind of vaporizer I would recommend that they could comfortably take anywhere, the last vape on my mind would be the arizer solo, despite it's outstanding functionality.

Agreed... Let's make a thread to properly categorise vapes maybe. The category for the FF will be "Belted pocketable"! :D

EDIT: I have vaped everywhere with the Solo and so do a lot of people. Thus it is also a practical portable for many. We are getting into a non ending discussion about what constitutes portability here... If it's not portable "enough" for you and still need convection heating, You have to either go for a flame vape (I favourite them for dozens of reasons) or wait for a GrassHopper and let's hope it works...

Comfortably take anywhere out in the woods or comfortably take anywhere in the city? Hell, if it was the city, I wouldn't recommend the Lotus simply because you have to use a flame. Actually, I don't think I'd feel comfortable using ANY portable out in public where there's a lot of people.

I mean despite its weight it is pretty portable in size compared to the other flower vaporizers on the market with the exception of the PAX. I think it loses it's portability with it's lack of stealthiness because of how often vape critic said he had to brush it, its small chamber, and little battery life.

Ahhh, you see where I'm going with this :p

Portable vs. Rechargeable vs...handheld? ...vs pocketable? Shirt pocket. Pants pocket, front pocket, or front coin pocket? How about Front pocket, inner cell phone pocket pocket?

I want a vape that comfortably fits in my shoe. AND...walking keeps it charged.

Shameless plug for ROOS, Anyone? That page has a Chapstick in one shot, so I want a vape that fits in my shoe!

I think its time to hit the plug-in.

I go where the thrills are
The FF creators went on and on in that audio interview about how outdoorsy they are, and how important portability and discreetness were to their design of the unit. Kind of surprising that it's weight and size it is.

Personally portability, with regard to the Firefly, to me means "moving around the house". I'm not likely to bring a 200 dollar-plus unit with me places where it might be at risk....that's why God gave us the MFLB. Risking 70 vs. 245 is pretty easy math for me.:science:

You put your nearly indestructible knife in a protective sheath when outdoors, why wouldn't you use a case with your vape? And even the MFLB is not impervious to a fall... Or a screen tear... ;)

Agreed, NF - From what I could see on the latest vid, the Firefly fits well within the size of an opened adult hand. I put my opened hands in my pockets all the time (they fit handily!). The Firefly, by the looks of it IS a pocketable vape. Perhaps on the heavier side as vapes go, but not likely to pull my jeans down below my waist, even without a belt;-) The Firefly is one to watch, IMO.
