The J-hook thread!

I assumed that much.. An ashcatcher won't be too much weight?

Heres my MGW ashcatcher with new J-hook, works beautifully when attached to my Solo

Check out how I use my Ashcatcher with a Jhook. The way my ashcatcher sits its easiest to hold both the j-hook and the ash catcher simultaneously with one hand, that way the weight isnt sitting on the connection at all. Personally this has become one of my favorite ways to use my solo as I can lounge on my bed and can hold the piece in front of me instead of having to lean over my massive double lattice

No worries man glad I could help out. I posted those pics a month or so ago so not exactly easiest thing to find. Yea I got that J-hook for $25 from colie glass and it has turned into my most useful piece of glass. I also like to put it into the freezer and just use a gong stem with my solo directly into the cool J-hook.

Cane-Gun proved to be not so thick and sturdy… :ugh: It cracked when I poured hot water on it to clean it and wasn't that cold… Maybe the evaporating ISO cooled it enough to break with the water… I don't know… I know I need to find another one eventually that doesn't crack that easy. Are there any 5mm J-hooks out there? I wonder… Or is it the heat treatment that makes them tougher?

The Cane-Gun is made with chinese boro. It is more brittle and has less thermal shock resistance than a quality boro like Schott or Simax etc.

If I were you, out of the list you posted, I would buy the 7th Floor product or the one from ALT.
I know you said the ALT one was a bit pricey for you, but as you now have a broken piece, I think the 'buy it right, buy it once' rule once again shows itself.

Sometimes I forget that rule and it always seems to reassert itself :)

I'm waiting from a cheap Blackleaf sherlock from head&nature. Cost around 4€ and seems to be abble to work as a natural perc too.

Lets post this one here too, I'm also looking after it. Just wondering is size..?

The sherlock from Oregonglass blower. Cheaper than the ALT one and seems nice for the lotus with the slanted bowl.

I wish I could afford that when I needed a J-hook... But I had to eat too. ;)

I got mine from colie glass for $25 shipped. It has held up really well since I got it at the beginning of the semester. Blown in Colorado too :D

And, most importantly, it's blown with a quality boro. Schott I believe.

Colie is using different kinds of quality I guess...?
The problem for us European is also for the shipping over seas. Most doesn't want to take the risk to do it. In the past I wanted a piece from Colie and we end up on that point.

Colie uses mostly Schott or Simax if I remember correctly.
Their shop link is down at the moment so can't check.
But yes they use mostly quality boro from what I remember, though it wouldn't surprise me if they used chinese boro on the cheapest pieces. So I could be wrong about their jhook.

I live in Australia so I'm with you guys (even worse in shipping times and costs).
But I have yet to have an issue with glass orders from the US.
Hopefully my good luck continues.
I have two pieces in transit right now, including one from Colie.

Glass Blower
Sadly they're a pain to make so we don't have any plans to produce them in the future

@Bvapst I got one of the OGB sherlock jhooks you linked ^^ and here are some pics with the lotus if you haven't already seen them. It's about 8 1/2" long from mp to bulb. I find the angle works really well for line of sight with the lotus, and the length and smaller tube size offers a nice amount of restriction and cooling for the lotus. I am waiting on that Thick Quality Glass sherlock, it's in transit and should arrive in the next day or two. I believe it may be 18mm, but a low pro reducer will be no problem to work with, I find them easier to grab for carbing.

Thanks for trying to feed my GAS but I have seen your pics before ;). I can imagine the sensation it gives to pull on that classy glass, nice one ! Unfortunately I can't afford it or lets say my VAS stand over GAS ATM, even if Lotus became daily driver (i broke my only log stem) so a new glass for lotus would be nice.

For now i'm still using this cheap (and cheap quality) j-hook.
https://www.head-nature.com/tree/32...article/09766/Black-Leaf-oil-mouthpiece.xhtml

But as I wrote in the Lotus thread :
I'm dreaming of : a short size and fine diameter glass stem connecting with a glass elbow joint holding the WPA (or a glass bowl directly in it)
So this would be a 2 pieces pipe (stem+joint/wpa) , easier for cleaning and packing in a small pouch.

It's cool Bvapst, I was just catching up reading this thread and wanted to add a follow up post to the one you made, not necessarily intending to poke the GAS monster :p thought it might also be useful info for other folks who may be reading this one too...it was a little on the pricy side, but I do find it to be a very elegant feeling piece that seems as if it were made for the Lotus. I'm glad you have something that is working for you!
