ah, did not realize that. I just noticed on ALT that the 60 was 14" and the 65 was 17" (of the other T model).

So I just bought an Ion from someone. It's a smaller Ion. Pics below are from him; I haven't received it yet.
He said there'd be less drag than with a bigger one. Does that sound true to you guys? I kind of wanted a bigger one, but settled for this. I hope I made the right choice.

You never "settle" for an Ion Matrix...
If ever there was a piece that has less drag, it's the I.M. There is practically zero drag with this piece...I absolutely love it!
Are there other great pieces out there from Mobius and other glassman? Sure...and I recommend getting as many different pieces as you can afford!
P.S. They do hold their value...so, if you don't love it, you can always sell it to someone who has been refreshing ALT day after day hoping for it to appear for sale on their site...

Jealous of your new pickup! Should pair nice with your Evo.
The smaller size will have less air volume to move and clear, possibly slightly less water to create less drag. The perc would be pretty much the same though so I can't imagine drag being all that different between the Ion and Clear. I think the smaller size is nicer since it will take less to fully clear after a nice big rip!

Yeah admittedly it is a good piece no matter what, but I just feel like the bigger ones look higher quality because of their size. It's completely a visual thing in these regards to me, and I'm sure performance will be essentially the same.
Thanks for the encouraging words behind this slightly impulsive purchase - makes me feel better. He said he's had 3 in his life and this 3rd smaller one is his favorite so far, but he might just be trying to sell it. Doesn't sound like anything is bad or wrong about it - he seems like a guy who buys and sells a lot of glass to try new things.
I can't believe the vast size differences in these bubs. @boblawblaw has one that looks huge. Or at least I think it was you, bob, if I recall correctly.

I have a larger sized Sovereignty and I prefer smaller cans for the most part with vaping/dabs. A large can is nice for combustion so you can get it all milky in there and get it all at once and over with. With a vape and ones that may have more of a restricted draw a smaller size with vaping will be nice to get it to you faster and less lingering. All else fails sell it to me and buy yourself a clear!

Dude I JUST noticed that what I must have had my eyes on all along was the Mobius Clear w/ Matrix perc. I subscribed for an update on re-stocking on Aqualabs and will likely snag that when it comes out. Once I do, I'd probably be happy to sell you this one.
Also, did he stop creating the type with the circular dome-shaped top? These all have flat top now. I thought it was pretty cool having a rounded top - the curves of it go nicely with the bubbles.

not sure if that new guy has one or not, but i do have the clear bubbler, not the ion, it is quite a bit larger

Yep looks like I was indeed confused.
So confused that I paid the guy $295 shipped for the small Ion ($280 on ALT). When I bought it from the guy I thought it's MSRP on ALT for the Ion was $320. It was the Clear that was $320. I could have negotiated that better. >_<

Still not a bad deal. Don't beat yourself up about it bud. Keep in mind this is ALT's sale price on the Ion. I don't have experience with Clear vs Ion but I have an Ion and it is absolutely perfect. The size is almost perfect for a hybrid piece and it is super sturdy and near impossible to knock over with its wide base (which you won't find on the Clear). I plan on getting a Clear someday, too, but the Ion is simply amazing. Zero drag, zero effort to clear.

I slightly prefer the clear, mainly because I prefer the larger bore on the mouthpiece, and I prefer the larger volume.
Functionally, they hit identically IME. No drag to speak of on either of them.
The ion is more stable, as its smaller overall and has that massive base.
$295 shipped is a good price, I've seen them go for full retail ($330 + shipping) regularly.
I paid $330 +$55 shipping for mine, so IMO you got a fair price.
And if you don't entirely like it (though its more likely hell would freeze over
), you can throw it back up on the classifieds here, I dare say you could easily make your money back.

Whats the deal with the flat/rounded tops on the Ions? Dude was just talkin about how they only make the flat now? I dunno if I have a rounded one or not, cuz it has a slight bump going up to the joint. Anybody have pics of their rounded or flat ones so I can get a lil idea.

IMO a Reti perc in a stemless would be tight....with the perc turned upside down rippin from the other way. Jus an idea...

Have you hit both side by side?
I have, both water test and with my LSV, and I didn't notice any difference in drag.
The only time I ever have any kind of drag in my clear is when I fill it up approx halfway up the can, for extra diffused chuggy goodness.

I've never hit an Ion so it's hard for me to compare. I feel that if I were to combust with the Clear I'd be coughing my ass off & might want something smaller, whereas filling then clearing the can with thick milky vapor is right up my alley and it's not too big at all (see my vid post above if you haven't). I love taking monster rips since it takes me a few to get where I'd like to be so it's largely a matter of personal preference & tolerance IMO.

Okay so as pointed out in this thread, I was not aware that ALT was having a sale. Now the price for the Ion Matrix is back to $330, presumably not including shipping. I got mine for $300 with a case as well so I'm happy.
I can't wait to see what everyone is raving about. Either the piece is really good or there is some kind of mind altering hallucinogen baked into the glass. All hail Mobius, our Dear Lord of Low Drag, Father of Filtration and King of Milked Consumption.
