Thai Food Tried to Kill Me and I survived!

Last night, i was eating at our local Thai/Vietnamese food place. I ordered my favorite dish, pad thai, i asked the server to make it level 5; the spiciest possible. I told him that the last 3 times i went there they forgot to put spice in it! When my food arrived i was thrilled, it was covered in spice! First few bites are ok, then as i get to about the half way mark, my face starts tingling, after a minute or two the sensation spread to my chest, then the tingling went down my arms into my hands. My hands were completely tingling and red at this point, and i was dripping sweet. Next my hands started to lock up, my thumbs wanted to clamp down across my palms, quite an uncomfortable situation. The whole time i was lightheaded and thinking i may pass-out. By this time i start freaking out, I'm not allergic to anything so i didn't really think i was having an allergic reaction, but i didn't know what was going on, or what was happening to me, hell i thought i might just upen die in the middle of the Noodle Hut. I would say i started panicking more, finally, i throw money on the table and leave. outside it gets a little better, but not much. We were in a Vons parking lot so my girl and i run over into Vons, (thinking i may be having an allergic reaction to something, BENEDRIL HERE I COME!!). In the corse of looking for the bennedril i find the pharmacist and told him what happened, he kinda chuckled a bit and said you'll be fine, and didn't think that the benadrill would help, and suggested i may be having a panic attack in addition to the reaction from the spice. (FYI i was 3 days into a T-break) My girl and i make it back to my house, and now the sensations in my body are diminishing, with just a tingling in my face. After some milk and bread on the tongue (the bread absorbs spices off your tongue), i felt good enough to vape some to calm down, I went for a Gods Gift bowl at 7, then i realized i needed CBD/CBN and so i packed three bowls of ABV from the solo at L3. I turned the solo up to 7 with a poop bowl and by the third bowl i was calmed down completely... SO i learned two things out of this.. Don't offend someone when they make you spicy foods, and that ABV has amazing calming properties.

I made the mistake yesterday of cutting one of these open, lightly touching my finger to the inside and then putting that in my mouth...:o:D

I was expecting a toilet horror story, with a burned out "O-Ring", but what do I know eh? . . .
haahah yea surprisingly i don't have a toilet horror story... it wasn't nearly as bad upon exiting as it was entering... haha just an amazing relief to not have that shit burning inside your body! The part i left-out in the story above, was i was scared as shit once my whole body starting tingling.

With how much spice it sounds like they used I think you got lucky! :D

There isn’t much literature available on why eating hot peppers would lead to head trips, but two things seem to be going on. First, there’s the endorphin rush from the pain caused by the hotness of the chile–this is what any of us civilian pepper-eaters experience from normal hot sauce, and why burningly spicy things feel so good. But beyond that, it’s worth noting that hot peppers are in the same botanical family as potatoes, tobacco, and deadly nightshade. Tobacco’s mental effects might be mild, but overdosing on the fruits of potatoes (rarely seen, but they do have fruit, if you let the stalks grow and flower) and nightshade plants makes you hallucinate, then die. Capsaicin might be the best-known chemical in hot peppers, but odds are some other potent molecules are in the mix as well.

I think i should change the name of this tread to foods that give me a panic attack. After experiencing another panic attack yesterday, i now realize that the tingling and locking up of my hands is a me problem, and not related to food.

thesoloman, can you go into a little more detail what you feel when this happens? Does the "lock-up" sensation extend to your legs as well?

I have not had the lock up sensation happen to my legs. The two times i have experienced this, its a new sensation for me. The onset started with tingling along my cheek bones, this sensation then spreads too my chest and down my arms into my hands. At this point my face, chest, arms, and hands are tingling. my palms start getting sweaty, and then it feels as though my thumbs want to lay flat across my palms and bond to my little finger. The second time this happened it didn't last nearly as long as the first time, and i was able to control it better, ultimately calming myself down rather quick. The second trigger for this was my girlfriend at the time had just broken up with me, and i was rather upset about the matter, went into panic mode, but i got out of it rather fast. I think that these feelings, are somehow related my love for her. Before i loved her, none of these feelings ever happened to me before.

Haha nice, have you tried the spicy papaya salad? My moms from Laos and she makes it spicy as fuck. Bomb as hell with some sticky rice and grilled chicken tho.

You want some hot food? Come to my neck of the woods and join me on Hell Night at the East Coast Grill! I go every year. If you have ever seen the TV show Man Vs. Food, here is the episode where he eats what is called the Pasta From Hell. It's a pasta made with 7 ghost peppers, the hottest pepper on earth. They make you sign a waiver and I can see why... it's so hot it feels like you are eating glass.

I have literally seen people need an ambulance at this place.

At least you didn't itch your eyes, or your nuts . . . :o

I've actually done a Thelemite meditation where you put pure cinnamon oil on your third eye and sit there with your real eyes wide open for as long as you can. Hurts like a motherfucker. Actually got some in one of my eyes once and never did the meditation again.

Yeah, but if you had itchy eyes AND itchy nuts, I'll tell ya this. I would NEVER want to be as close to that, whatever it is, as you were.
