The Lotus Vaporizer

I got to say I don't feel the urge anymore to use the Solo...
Last weekend on the mountain, I filled it up for my friends but I was still hitting the Lotus most of the time!
Less drag, faster hits, not cooking the load between draws, are some things I really appreciate with the Lotus after so much time with the Solo... I mean, being able to take a big hit and then just relax and wait for the effects before the next hit with the load staying intact while caressing the pipe, it's priceless!!! :D

Ahahahaahahah.

I just imagined you going into headshop asking for Black Friday deals.

Hopefully these Massdrop guys and Mendocino Therapeutics (official company name of Lotus) can agreee to a good bulk price for the public soon, but a BF sale would also be super dope.

I would like to thank those helpful peeps who answered my question. I think I have a better grasp of the Lotus now.

Just heard about the Grasshopper vaporizer, looks very promising... Decisions, man.

man, may i ask why? my friend did the opposite and put aside his solo for daily use after he got used to the Lotus. he said it was easier to make clouds, and less resistance to the pull. i kinda agree. it could also be the 'using flame' thing that he liked with the Lotus.

i agree on less resistance and bigger clouds ;)

but i get more vapor from the same amount of herb in the solo (at an estimated 75% of thickness compared to the lotus) and also i don't like how the lotus tastes once it gets hot. first 2-3 hits taste great but after that i get a very noticable stainless steel taste (tastes just like a hot plate smells)

the lotus just eats my herb to quick, i prefer to keep my tolerance low and with the lotus i was using significantly more herbs than with the solo... so the solo stays my daily driver, but it's nice to have the lotus to get some thicker hits once in a while :)

and for hash, can't begin to explain how nice the lotus is with hash!

Wow! I am having the exact opposite experience concerning my tolerance and how much herb I spent!!!

With the Solo I need to crank it up to 7 to get satisfying hits from the same load and doesn't last more than 3-4 hits. With the Lotus an the same load I can get double hits if I want and usually the high is much more complete if you know what I mean. It gives me full spectrum hits for longer time if I choose so. Much more control over the Solo imo...

it's all about preferences! :)

i never put my solo past 5 when vaping herb, i used to vape at 2-3 and only go up to 5 for the last hit - this way i could vape about one 12 minute cycle with great taste and visible "clouds", about 20 hits. Atm i vape the whole session on 5 and get up to 10 really satisfying hits...

so temperature is the key difference here: with the lotus most of the times i vape hotter than i would with the solo or other precisely temp-controlled vapes, resulting in stronger but less heady/pschedelic effect (full spectrum effect with more body stone) and bigger clouds. I prefer to control effect via using different strains for different purposes more than using different temps.

Of course it's possible to vape at the same lower temps with the lotus too, but it's a fine line between too little heat - just the right amount of heat and too much heat. My best lotus sessions have given me up to 10 nice satisfying hits too, but on avarage i get about 5-6 hits per load (thicker and slightly hotter hits).

imo high temp vaping is where the lotus really shines at, i much prefer hash through the lotus than hash through the solo on 7. but for my daily herb sessions the solo remains king :)

hazy vibes :D

edit: btw keep in mind i'm only using the wpa with both lotus and solo, hit counts are different for vaping dry ;) that reminds me that i have to try the lotus on my j-hook, still haven't tried it dry...

Just got my water pipe in the mail but can't actually try it out until tomorrow. I was curious about how differently the lotus works through a bubbler and with the wpa. Any tips? I'm mainly concerned about the temperature control and scorching the bud or worse, over heating the plate. I've only got the single flame torch though.

The things I would do to hit this J-hook with my lotus...
This looks like a galaxy! So sick!! I'd totally light this up while watching Gurren Lagann!

I only have the j hook for the lotus so I'm using the wpa at all times. However my super zong also connects perfectly with the wpa so I have been using that!

This is probably a lot larger than the piece you just got but the technique really didn't change for me. Basically if you see your hot plate getting orange you know its too much and you should back off or more the torch around more. I still pull in really slow and milk the whole thing, then I just pull a lot faster and stop using the torch to clear it without having to lift the cap. Don't be afraid to burn your herb a little bit, by doing so you will find the proper technique much faster and know how hot not to go. :)

On another topic, how fast does everyones j hooks get dirty, and how dirty do they get? I try not to over grind my herb, I have a standard grinder and just grind it a bit but after every bowl there is still a good amount of particles in the j hook. This picture is after 2 weeks of normal use.

It seems like a lot to me but maybe this is normal. I could try getting a smaller screen for the wpa, currently using the stock one. Let me know! Happy toking guys!

Have you tried drawing faster and more steadily?

I ask because I was having a little trouble generating the kind of cloud experience that wanted with the Lotus.

For some reason, I got in the habit of drawing relatively fast and steady...a carry-over habit from the VG? Anyway, doing it this way would give me tasty vapor, but it was pretty mild and it took too long to medicate.

After more trial and error I found that doing short, intermittent draws...almost like I'm puffing, but I'm inhaling the mouthful at the end of the draw. Doing this gives me the 2-4 meaty clouds that I'm going for. It sounds like I'm seeking the same thing you're trying to avoid.

I think I've learned to hit the cap harder and longer too...so maybe reversing this technique wouldn't cook the herb so quickly and harshly?

Maybe I'm speaking out my ass, but just a few things to consider if you want to get more use out of your Lotus.

I think I'll probably buy another Lotus in the near future. It seems to be the one I pick up the most often.

I just give the j hook a hot water ringer every other day and is sparkling clean every time... Easier to judge the vapor production with a clean glass. The Lotus suddenly becomes even more efficient as you can take really controlled low temp short hits this way!
Also, j hook gets dirtier when you stir the load with the WA ATTACHED. I usually remove the WA and then stir so specs won't fall in the Jhook...

So, I've been using the Lotus pretty often for the past few months now. And I still love this thing! Just for fun, I decided to break out the magic flight launch box, just to compare. Wow, what a difference! It's crazy how different the flavor is. I put a little Bob Marley OG in my Lotus, as well as my magic flight. They tasted like two different strains to me. The magic flight will get some use once in a while if I need to be super stealthy, or if I'm going snowboarding or something. But when I'm home, I'm pretty much only using the Lotus now. This thing really is awesome, I highly recommend it!

And by the way, I also owned the solo. I sold it off after using it for about a month. I liked it, it produced nice vapor, but I didn't like the draw resistance, nor the bulky/awkward form factor. I also, typically, just don't like battery powered vapes. I don't like charging batteries every day, either, so maybe I'm biased. The glass also got dirty REALLY fast. Lotus is way better, for what I like in a vape. Instant vapor (practically), amazing taste, butane free, no charging required, portable, awesome for water pipes, etc. Did I miss anything?

Durable, if you have an aluminum stem. The vapor cap is also pretty sturdy due to design. The big appeal for me is durability, which is why I opted for MFLB rather than Iolite years ago.

So glad I found this forum and heard about this vaporizer. Finally tried it with the WPA and Black Leaf. It worked perfectly. Your eyesight angle is a bit different so it felt awkward for the first session, but I'm sure I'll get used to that. You do lose a little of the flavor, but there's still plenty of great flavor there. It milked up so quickly, especially for vapor and was crazy smooth.

I was considering buying a Pax, Solo, and/or going the whole nine yards and getting a home volcano set. I've tried all three at least a few times. My friend lucked into a garage sale volcano and we both loved that thing for a few years. They're all great, but this Lotus blows them all away. This whole stash box, pelican case(no foam in there yet) and grinder included, along with a spare lighter coming in the mail cost me a lot less than the volcano I was considering and only a little more than the Pax.

I'm still absolutely in love with my Lotus and it's become my daily driver at home (I use the Pinnacle Pro "on the road"). The only downside I've encountered so far is the fact that my wife says the Lotus smells more strongly than my other vapes. :( Which has gotten me banned from using it when we sit in bed and watch TV. Boo!

Other than that, it's just perfect. I remember being underwhelmed the first time I saw one of these. I wasn't sure I wanted another flame-based vape. I'm so glad I went ahead and listened to everyone on this thread and got one. Thank you!!

After a little under than a week, I'm using it with the WPA in my bubbler at least 80% of the time. It's the best experience I've had vaping flowers through water and so now I'm a convert from mostly direct-draw vaping. Even though I haven't used it as much yet, I also love the stem. Thanks to those who encouraged me to buy it.

Anyone who is on the fence...get one of these. The Lotus is a thing of beauty.

At first i was afraid to put lighter to close then i burnt em but now ive got it! Very easy and fairly similar to my SSV in clouds if i want and i/m sure it will only get better. This was never meant to be my driver but i can't see it in the backseat.I'll be keeping it close at all times just for fun.Great product was only $101/free ship wFC discount @vaporstore and Thank You FC!

yes, try a smaller screen. some smaller screens have considerably 'bigger' holes than others so (you could also) put on 2 screens if u want. doesn't really affect resistance but i reckon it's better for keeping the small specks from falling into your j-hook or bubbler.

We originally had a finer screen on the Lotus but people said that it clogged too quickly. Go figure.

hey Max i'm really digging the lotus. Just a thought i'm sure you heard before. How about just making a 6" stem but have them in say 10 basic colors with the caps to match. Im sure you will sell allot of pink ones for the ladies and sports guys love to mix and match colors to their favorite teams. Sign me up for a orange and green combo!

If magnets magically appeared on your WPA, would you want them just strong enough that the vapor cap wouldn't fall off the WPA when it's tilted sideways, or would you want them strong enough that you could lift the WPA out of the glass downstem? If the magnets were the latter, it would take 2 hands to use the stir stick, one to hold the WPA, one to lift the vapor cap.

Any news on those magnetic WPAs @Max Jitter?

Thanks :D
