You Must Unlearn, What You Have Learned...
That article has a lot of misleading information. He might know about FC but he hasn't read much here. If he had, he'd know that you can't pick a temperature that delivers just THC. You can only pick a temperature that is biased towards THC. He writes as though THC, CBN, and CBD are switches that you turn off and on with the temperature you choose. They aren't.
Yup all kinds of misinformation, so thankful for FC! Speaking of misinformed check out this blog, good for a chuckle Atmas Raw 10/10 ha http://blog.smokazon.com/

ABV: Already been vaped. I personally like simmering it in coconut oil. Strain, then allow to sorta solidify back up. Works great as a muscle/pain rub. I also eat it/cook with it, occasionally.
E - How long should I let the ABV simmer in coconut oil, and in what ratio? Thanks!

Pretty much I gather ABV, put it in a quart jar, no more than half-full (usually lots less), and then pour liquid coconut oil over to cover. Shake, maybe pour in some more, until there is a little "slop" when you shake it, but don't have too much oil beyond the ABV. Put a lid (plastic or old canning lid) on loosely, and then set on a trivet in the crock pot. Pour in hot water until the water is well above the oil line on the jar, but not all the way to the lid. Cover with lid, turn to Low. Let simmer along as long as you can stand, at least overnight. If you can handle it, cook it for a few days, opening the crock pot twice a day to keep water levels high, and to shake the jar (use a couple of hot pads, really) a bit.

When you can't stand it any more, put a large enough container (I use a 4-cup measuring cup) on a plate, put a mesh strainer over that, with a layer of cheesecloth on it - *OR* - I use a "gold" coffee filter. If I were making larger batches than I do, I'd use the cheesecloth on a strainer.

Pour the ABV/Oil mixture slowly into your straining device, and then walk off and let it drip. Come back in an hour, and maybe stir the residue around a bit, then leave it for a few-to-several hours.

Coconut oil solidifies at about 67F, so it shouldn't take long on the kitchen counter to get firm. You can stick it in the fridge, too.

I still don't have a good answer about the oily ABV leftovers. Maybe throw them in brownies?

My process is similar, except I strain through paper coffee filters and squeeze them dry with a ricer.

Great thread.

In regards to first-timers, my first vaping experience might have been similar to many. It wasn't great and almost made me give up before really even trying.

I bought a MFLB because I found combusting really exacerbated my sleep apnea. The purchase was made based on price point, reviews, and most importantly for me, stealthiness.

To be honest, I found it to be a disappointment and went back to combusting. After eventually going through my apnea episodes again, decided to try something a little different and bought what I was more of a compromise between a pure, e-vape and something that perhaps wasn't as clean, but still better than inhaling smoke and tar (a VG).

From there, the lights went on immediately and from there I've been converted.

I believe if you don't have an experienced vaporist available to show you around, it definitely can be easy to be un-impressed and give it up as hype or a fad. I know I almost did. This is particularly true if the potential convert is not a self-starter or somebody who is somewhat adventurous.

I finally got around to cleaning my proto-pipe one day after I'd been combusting a while, and found myself repulsed by the amount of tar that builds up inside. To think that crap is going right into my lungs:puke:

I started with a vapor brothers knockoff and was similarly unimpressed and resumed combusting with my proto. I went back to the vaporwares vaporizer a couple years later and began getting deeper into vaporizers, finally having a breakthrough with da buddha. I havent touched my proto since.

I'm vaping for the first time today. There is more of a difference than I thought it would be. Vaping at 373-385 has a different effect on me than combustion. It's a different level of awareness. It's a more sophisticated buzz.

It's clinical for me. My vaping is on AC and plastic, plastic, plastic to the lips. The experience isn't zen, it's medical and I feel medicated.

I have this compulsion to clean the house and eat. Neither were such a priority yesterday.

Another thing I found was that it was a little overwhelming too, for the uninitiated. So many choices and so individualized. It's almost as if there are too many choices....but just almost.

Those proto's clean really nicely don't they? But you really get a sense of how much junk you're inhaling while you do so.

Funny looking back, I thought the PP was stealthy. I had no idea. Now I can't stand combustion. Everything about it, the smoke, the taste, the way you stink after you smoke just seems disgusting now. If people want to combust, that's fine with me, but I don't see myself ever going back to smoking.

As a recent mainstreamer, I'll share my perspective.

Actually, it didn't take me long to sort through all the initial options thanks to FC. The kind people here threw out some good options and the decision of which first vape became pretty apparent.

I spoke with someone yesterday about vaping and they said they too had vaped before, using one of the vaporizing pens. They were so enthusiastic about their results, I didn't have the heart to tell them, they were likely combusting.

Vaping is a much less ashy affair. No lighters needed, less paraphernalia, bongs, papers, roach clips, bats and pipes, screens, scrapers and pokers to clutter up my life. I have a small box and what looks like a water bottle, and that's pretty much the extent of it.

I love the No2. It's a no spill, but plenty of thrill, little device I can load and toss in my back pack to take to the beach or rock the little dude laying in bed. Mine or hers. A portable for me is definitely the way to go if you can find one that actually works. It doubles as my desktop.

Having said all that, the whole vaping experience I find is less organic than smoking and more like being sedated at the dentist, than sitting around the campfire passing a doobie and howling at the moon.

I've smoked the same herb for months now and what surprised me the most is how different I felt vaping the same herb vs combusting.

It's also a big bonus for me that just a little, does a lot and I'm saving my ABV for later. Nothing goes up in smoke, nothing gets dumped out, nothing goes to waste and what I have now should last even longer.

The effects of vaping also seemed to last longer which cuts down on consumption and I learned yesterday, that the effects creep up on me, so slow down.

I can put a lot of THC in my system with this thing. More so I ever could smoking and yesterday I had more than I wanted. I can also turn it down. I'm vaping today at 356-360 and it's still timing out. I like the idea of customizing what I am receiving.

I don't deny I like the effects THC has on me, but I also am interested in the other properties of anti-inflammatory and analgesic advantages to be gained.

Pretty much every morning, I wake and bake and go workout. I drink green smoothies right after, and try to eat right. I take a good Multivitamin, fish oil, plus other healthy supplements every day and some 2x a day. I try to do the right thing by my body. I eat Kale. I haven't had a drink of booze in years but I have a long daily experience with smoking herb.

Unfortunately, I suffer from nagging minor aches and pains (I'm 62) and if I could figure out a way to get off the Naproxen entirely, and use the MJ analgesic properties instead, and still be able to function normally, it would be a bonus. I want to also use this for pain.

I don't know why I would ever go back to combustion after what I experienced yesterday. I gave up cigarettes almost 2 years ago and would never go back to those and now vaping completes my goal of being 100% smoke free.

I'm finding I'm a different kind of smart and a different kind of stupid when I'm vaked.

Hey Dogdad,

great post. Love your pro-health routine man!

One thing about the less organic experience with vaporizing, i get what you're saying but bear in mind that some vaporizers give you a less organic experience than others.

A great around the fire vape would be the Lotus for example. Units made of wood or glass also give you a cleaner feel than plastic. Up to a point it's all psychological but there is something to be said about materials used.

I also think you would like a log vape, because it is made of wood which gives you a more natural feel and it's tasty and conservative. It is my go to unit at home, and it is so small that i can use it anywhere and take it anywhere where there is a power plug.

Welcome to the vaporizing world, if you're like the majority of us, you won't feel the need to go back to combusting.

Hey, DogDad, glad to see you are enjoying your NO2. It was also my first "real" vaporizer, and a very handy device!
Mine has since been passed along to someone else, as I have moved on/up to a log vape (ENano). (I also have an EVO on the way, but that's a whole 'nuther subject)

For all the active things you are doing, the NO2 is great to take along.

If you are looking for more pain suppression, and if you need more help with relaxation, bump that temp up to the upper end - I used 400F most of the time on it. The CBD & CBN becomes a little more pronounced at the higher temps.

Be sure to load it a bit light. Use that scoop, and don't round it!

ABV makes a great topical rub... just simmer in some coconut oil, strain, use. Lots of the anti-inflammatory essences absorb just fine.

When you are ready for stepping up to the next level, look into a log vape. They aren't as portable, no, but to always have it ready, at a very steady temp, with pure convection (NO2 uses conduction and convection), -- I have found a real magnitude of medication effects increase. Significantly. With just about the same amount of herb.

Your NO2 can be paired with a glass piece - I used one of the long plastic/silicon tubes and just ran it from the "nipple" to the downstem - it was a very cheap gong, and it fit fine. I also experimented with an inline bubbler, but that was a bit fussy for me.

Welcome to FC. :)

Hey Dogdad,

great post. Love your pro-health routine man!

Thanks, if only you knew. I spend my mornings on a tropical island off the coast of far south eastern US, Florida. All my workouts are at sunrise on the beach and probably 300 days a year. The dog and I run/walk/chase tennis balls, paddle board, surf, swim, snorkel, do yoga and completely loose our minds out there. We are usually back inside by 9:30, I do a smoothie , taken vitamins and I'm ready to start the work day. I work from home. I just find starting my morning on my feet is always good for my day.

The THC helps me feel the endorphins and connect emotionally with my surroundings which is like being in a picture perfect, postcard world. A zoo, a wildlife park, amusement park, a postcard. I bombard myself with those visuals, and music like this to dawn most days:

It's all psychological but there is something to be said about materials used.

Of course all true as you said. I was thinking about this earlier today and thought if you could take the internals of a No2 and put them in a wooden Sherlock or something it might bring back some earthiness. About all I might do to mine is hide it in a Mc/Donalds cup. :)

Today, I was pulling on it at the beach out of my backpack. If anybody did see me , they probably thought I was drinking out of a Camel Back.

I also think you would like a log vape,

I looked at the HI and a few others that were suggested in my first vape thread, and maybe a log is in my future. Thanks for the suggestion.

you won't feel the need to go back to combusting.

I'm feeling a lot of things right now at 400*, but going back to combusting is not one of them.

You should see "The lab" thread! :D

Please don't show me. My desk is clean.

If you are looking for more pain suppression, and if you need more help with relaxation, bump that temp up to the upper end - I used 400F most of the time on it. The CBD & CBN becomes a little more pronounced at the higher temps.

Everything at 400 seems a little more pronounced.

Actually, it would be nice to have CBD & CBN levels at 400+ but THC levels lower. I find if I use 400* I'm too severely effected but it actually does works to reduce pain. I never noticed this before while combusting or at 380. 400 appears to be a different pain deal. I feel some relief.

Be sure to load it a bit light. Use that scoop, and don't round it!

Thanks for the usage tips. I'm still trying to get that dialed in. There is rarely any noticeable vapor but I've learned I don't have to see it, to know it's there.

ABV makes a great topical rub... just simmer in some coconut oil, strain, use. Lots of the anti-inflammatory essences absorb just fine.
Wow, sweet. ABV for President! er, the WIN!

with pure convection (NO2 uses conduction and convection), -- I have found a real magnitude of medication effects increase. Significantly. With just about the same amount of herb.

That's good to know that things could only get better. They are already very good.

Dogdad, essentially you're living my dream life.
I do meditation every night and every morning, and some breathing exercises, and i always do some calisthenics and stretches.
I still haven't incorporated a full yoga practice everyday since i stoped practicing yoga in a class.
I do smoothies regularly, in the winter not as much. Still haven't mastered Surf although i have all the gear and did it quite a few times.
In the summer i did beachwalks everyday for 45min, and beachsprints too. I want to create my own business so i can work from home anytime i want to.
I could go on, but you probably do the same anyway. :p

Anyways... check the Lotus too. My guess is that it would make a great beach vape, it has that loungy feeling and since the unit cools off quickly during hits you can do 1-2 hits and stop.

Sure. I listen to the World Music Channels. If you like Karunesh, you'll like this too.

PM me and we'll talk music.

Dogdad, essentially you're living my dream life.

Not really because I have to give up other things to live here and not all aspects of that life are that good. Not everything is rosey no matter how much I vape but what I do have is close proximity to that horizon at sunrise. I compromise a lot to live near the beach but I'm not complaining for what I get back.
