Vapman

Interesting, have you seen one already, or is this an idea you had? How does.would it work? Don't really see the merit of that idea to be honest, the fact that it's butane powered is why I bought it...

In search of all availible reviews, news and informations about the Vapman (i'm really combing through the internet like a nerd) i found a short paper published in the learned Journal of the technical college of Bern/Switzerland, where they introduce a newly developed "heating station" for the Vapman. The article is written by a Professor of transducer technology an his co-worker, so i hope that i don't spread a rumor, it seems to be serious news. The text is availible in German and french only, so i try to give you a short abstract of it. This device seems to have a temp-control. They write, that one can set the desired temperature, put the Vapman on the heating Element, and after approximately 10 seconds its ready to use. A photo-sensor detects when the Vapman is not plugged in anymore and then switches of. After some draws, when the Vapman cools off, put the Vapman again on the heating station and the process starts again. Controling the tempeature works indirectly, because the Vapman is too small to measure it directly. This device solves this problem by measuring the cooling of the heating element of the station in order to detect the temperature at the time of plugging the Vapman into the station; with the help of a cooling curve.
They state, that prototypes of this device are in the testing phase and that this device will put on the market in the near future (the article is from February 2013).
It sounds really fascinating, and if this device does what it claims (an if the price is not exorbitant) than this would be a good solution for Vapman lovers who want to use the vapman both indoor or outdoor (although i sometimes prefer my Vapman over my plug-in vapo even for indoor use, so i appreciate your concerns about the merit). But again, i'm fascinated about the creativity and dedication of the makers of the vapman, to make unique products.

however no official statement on the vapman site so far. On Facebook they state that news on their shop coming soon. but i suppose they refer to their new vapman t-shirts they announced couple of months ago

Almost there...
Here is a Google translation:

Vaporize your plants at the right temperature !

In the phyto-inhalation the active ingredients of medicinal plants using a vaporizer ( evaporator ) are inhaled . With a novel , in HuCE - developed ScienceLab heating station , a vaporizer element of the company medical ag exactly be heated quickly and efficiently.

In the phyto-inhalation plant material (phyto ) with an evaporator ( vaporizer ) is heated , the active ingredients vaporize and be inhaled (inhalation) . The phyto-inhalation can be used for therapeutic purposes as well as for the enjoyment of herbs or flavorings.

the vaporizer
The " vapman " is a vaporizer in pocket size of the company medical ag element . The device makes inhalable herbal agents in that they are brought to a boil by heating . The boiling point of herbal ingredients is between 110 ° C and 230 ° C. However, the overheated Inhaliergut , pollutants can occur.
So far, the " vapman " was heated exclusively with a special lighter. So that the plants can not be heated to a precise temperature, however . Therefore, it was on HuCE - ScienceLab designed to complement an electronically controlled heating station .

Photo of the newly developed heating station ( left) with the existing vaporizers (center) and the special lighter (right).
the heating
The vaporizer is heated with the heating station in a time period of 10 seconds. To make this possible in such a short time , the heating element in the station must have a significantly higher temperature. This temperature must be above the value to be reached about 100 Kelvin. To reach temperatures up to 330 ° C , a powerful heating element is used .

Now the plants are successively heated vaporizer in several times to release all active substances. Thus, the device already have a high temperature when placed on the heating . In order not to overheat the herbs in this state, in the station , the temperature of the vaporizer is measured and controlled .

Tricky temperature measurement
Measuring the temperature at the onset of inhalation in the heating device has been found to be a difficult task . " The vaporizer in pocket size is too small for it to perform a direct measurement. We have circumvented this problem by cooling the heater is measured in the heating station , "explains Prof. Bertrand Dutoit .

The insertion of the inhalation device is detected by a light barrier. If this barrier is interrupted, turn off the heater . The station can now see from the cooling curve of the heater , what was the temperature at the onset of the inhaler .
So that the user knows when the plants have reached the right temperature , three LEDs are mounted on the front of the heating station . Since not all herbs need the same heat, the heating can be controlled continuously by a potentiometer.
Prototypes of the developed heating station are currently in test . The finished device will be available for purchase soon .

This has been around for a while. When I first got my Vapman (1.5 maybe 2 years back) it was a 'future development'. Looks like fun if/when it happens. I'm not so sure how big the market will be as I don't see it offering the advantages say the MFLB PA offers? We shall see.

FWIW there's also another model out there, a friction powered one! Like a wood yo-yo sort of....you tie it to a door knob or similar and pull the string through the body (against resistance) to heat it. They were offered for sale, as I understand it not too many sold?

- great idea in that it doesn't require batteries or butane. Pity they haven't come up with a solar powered one as yet, now that would be awesome! :)

It'd be cool for sure, but I suspect would all for some serious work (heat ain't cheap.....) making it inconvenient for most and a very poor choice for MMJ users.

In the 'fun if it was solar powered' venue I used to have a solar panel and 12 Gel battery in the garden to run my PD stem vape. Later I'd plug the MFLB PA into it. I finally ended up with a battery pack and took the solar battery down. While it was up it was indeed a fun thing to trip on.....enjoying the garden, using solar power to vape with and leading to buying an ounce of 'sun grown' bud to do it with. Fun stuff.

I totally agree - the friction model does seem a bit too much like hard work for everyday use, but I do like the environmentally friendly alternative it offers.

Now that does sound like fun! ....... I guess technology has some way to go to catch up with our vaporizer dreams, but I have no doubt it will get there, and indeed surpass them in the not too distant future. In the meantime I'll continue to enjoy what I have and try to reign myself back from wanting to buy every available model that takes my fancy! :) :peace:

Got mine recently.

First impression was the same as many others. It was "Holy shit, that thing is tiny!"

Up until I tried it an hour or so ago I was realllly concerned about the size of the bowl. I've already decided that this unit wouldn't be up to my needs in terms of vaping flowers. I figured it'd be great for kief since it doesn't utilize a screen.

First impressions are very positive. I'll need to go back through this thread and read up on the various suggestions.

After putting my reading glasses on and actually being able to make out just how complex it is, it is a very highly detailed piece. I can't imagine the amount of labor that must go into fabricating and assembling one of these things.

Glad you like it. Don't sell that little bowl short......

There's a fun video of them making them (all hand work, a couple of guys in a tiny shop) linked a couple times in the thread. You can also find it on the maker's web page IIRC.

I haven't used it with kief before, only flowers - but I find it meets my needs, well - some of them ;) :brow: :D

The kief was sublime!!

I did try a bowl of herb and it, as would be expected, wasn't as robust as the kief, but very, very flavorful. I'd have to say that of my four different portables, this little guy has the best flavor. But I'm sure as my Vap Fu skills improve, flower power will improve as well.

I'll definitely have to check out the "making of" video, sounds fascinating. I'm still amazed at the intricate design of this thing.
