In the late 60's early 70's surfers would go to INDIA and bring back PURPLE FLOWERS (seeds) to plant state side.

India was known for great strains for breeding back in the day!

Yup. The days of Panama Red, Acapulco Gold and the legends of old....the Dutch sure changed all that, didn't they?

I do miss the finger hash and temple balls.....and Thai sticks, of course.

Loved thai sticks, I do have AG at the moment but it isn't the same. Panama red yum. You are both older then me so I didn't have to go to india but had some street dirt weed easily. We even had those 24 hour corner stores with the bullet proof glass and you just went to the window and said can I have a nickle, dime and you got your little brown paper envelope and went on your way. I could get about 12 joints out of a dime. We didn't roll fat joints back then as a hit is a hit no waste like they do now. I still don't get the point of a really fat joint as it all ah goes up in smoke lol.

So, I think it is the age then even for a second time. Thai hasn't been around in a really long time. I think the last time I was able to get it on the stick was in HS. I did get some I think a year ago but I don't believe it was thai but it was good.

A bunch of posts just got transported in from the Solo thread, and I changed the title to reflect the discussion better.

As I've said before, back in the 70s almost everything that was stronger than ditchweed was claimed to be laced with opium. Almost none of it was, if any.

I remember when they were laced with opium, those were the days!

:smug:

That was the rumor, but I don't think Thai stick was. The reason why that rumor started is just because no one had weed that was that strong back in those days.

..... those other old men are like ten years older lol.

Those other old men? Who are you talking about? You bettah not be talkin' 'bout me. Old men ?!? BAH.......... :myday:

Right, Thai stick was the first weed on the scene that approached the strength of hash. It was a bud wrapped around a stick, and in those days weed wasn't buds, it was all leaf. Well, 2/3rds leaf and the rest was stems and seeds.

Also, tone down yer ego, she was talking about me! :myday:

Back "in the day" I got a post card from some friends in Denmark that had a decoupage of different holiday pics on it. It was sort of thick and had the words, "Cut Across Into Merry Christmas." It took me a couple of days to figure it out that it wasn't a language problem. I cut that baby open and inside was the most lovely rectangle of hash... with those same white lines in it.

Best hash I ever had... :brow:

Bells and whistles go off at the mention of Christmas. In the early 70's, I was stationed in Europe -- "in the boonies" -- where we were forced to work out a co-op of sorts, for those so inclined; kinda the proverbial "I'll fly if you'll buy" co-op, wherein whoever drove the 200-mile round trip monthly "run" got their month's share gratis = an ounce of hash. MJ was near impossible to score. In fact we practically "worshiped" a Peace Corps worker who showed up one time with about an ounce of Utah-grown MJ... is that even a good place to grow? But, I digress...

Those in the know -- meaning those who had been there at least a year -- looked forward to the December run, because it was the only time (late November into mid-January) that "Christmas hash" as we called it was available. Most hash we got came in "plates" pressed to ~3/8" thick and maybe 4"x8" wide and long, and were a variety of browns, light to chocolate. Christmas hash was ALWAYS greenish-blonde, with a micro-thin white layer in the middle. Even now, forty-plus years later, if I close my eyes I can still remember the sweet, floral aroma as I gently warmed the edge of the plate with my BIC lighter so I could top off some tobacco in a homemade hookah (formerly a Chivas Regal bottle and coffee urn stem; the "whip" came from sheathing that protected some electrical wiring in another life... desperate times = MacGuyver). Ahhhhhh, they are buried deep, and blurry, but they're still there.

I remember buying Thai sticks in batches of 25. Fabulous high. Around the same time (late seventies) a friend who used to visit India sometimes twice a year sent through the post some grass from Kerela which I had never heard of before. The first joint cut straight through the Thai joint we had just finished and I fell off the sofa.
I also remember black afghani and the original Pakistani Red Seal.
Nostalgia........

Panama Red was so good!

The Dutch are great seed producers.
I hope they still have the original strain somewhere safe?
With today's growing practices PANAMA RED would be a treat!

I literally ha this conversation yesterday with some mates. Red seal, gold seal, temple balls, Thai stick, used to get all sorts. In a way I preferred it now everyone's got a good lush or some exodus cheese. BORING lol

Back in the early 70's in college in southern California we used to see several kinds of hash, including a few monumental temple ball batches. Wonderful stuff. Apparently soon after that the US government gave these producing countries some cash to get them to stop producing and the sources dried up. Nepalese temple ball is hand-rubbed, rather than sifted or made with ice water. If you grow some weed, when you harvest and trim you can get a little hand-rubbed off your clippers after trimming lots of bud.

Saw the title and got all excited. Many moons ago I seem to remember getting more look alikes than anything. I have seen schwagg tied to a thin bamboo and black "hash" which I'm pretty sure was mostly opium incense. Gotta love a free market economy.

I've been trying to vape anything and everything. Not sure if you can cotton vape real hashish or not yet. Anyone?

Some guys are getting some more of that jamacian finger hash, it's the only thing I've come across that was as much fun as Leb-balls.
