So how do you load it? Just dab wax right onto the coil? Heat it up a little to soak it in?
How about something like PureGold? Is it too runny or can you just drop a little on the wick?

yes just smear a little on the coil. Some need to be melt for just a split sec to get them to stay put. I found with very light honey comb if I don't melt it to the coil the sucktion was actually pulling it off the coil and a couple pieces got sucked up. With glass well I save real glass for the domeless nail at home but it will work just melt it on.

Some other tips o Detonator

keep it verticle, well after I see my vid I change this as verticle as possible..
read my above post about dry burning off reclaim
see my coil in the burning pic? I like to push the coil slightly over to the side so the oil doesn't go directly down the middle hole. then when you hit it put the coil towards you so the oil runs or stays on the hot coil

I'm using the new titanium coil and liking it @ 7.0 watts.

Damn I never watched myself hit it at uh.....Wow it was red hot!... that is 7.0 watts.. maybe I should turn it down a little...nah...fuck that.

meh I did not like the video.. er.. technichaly differcult cult ies ,... whoops

Thanks for the great details. That pen you posted really looks like you put it through the paces lol. I am always surprised at how helpful people are on this forum. Half of the questions get ignored or neg repped over at ICAN.

The eagle has landed here. Probably wait for the new crumble to arrive tomorrow before trying - but I have to say it feels really nice. Solid and I love the size. Not too long and tres discrete. The dabbler looked to be pushing it a little. Although it sounds like I will have to watch and not heat it up too much.

Anybody know whether PureGold is suitable with this? I would assume you just can't load a lot but I won't even bother if it is too thin.

You push the coil to the side??? I always assumed you touch it as little as possible. My only history is with a sticky lipz pen though which is pretty delicate.

I wouldn't push it aside at all, the Dr.D atomizer is set up pretty well. I could imagine PG would work in it, just in smaller amounts added directly to the wick to allow it to absorb it. Most concentrates will get very liquid-y when heated anyways. I would try my PG but I'm almost out!

Well lookie here, I take a break from fc for a couple of days and the Dabber thread's finally heating up as everyone gets their Dabber on. I got sidetrack with stuff ... like receiving my unit first thing Tuesday morning. Gosh was it only Tuesday morning ...

I was maybe holding out to form a solid opinion before posting a bit of a review or something and I'm really too tired, but all these recent posts got me tweaked. Anyway, some roughly thrown together initial impressions -

- mostly re-iterate those of mvapes and JoeKickAss. The unit has a nice build quality and feel in the hand. It has a satisfying weight in the hand and the parts all fit well.

I ordered the package Dr.Dabbler linked. Everything was there and the coils glowed fine. Nice. All of this combined with attention to branding and packaging imparts a sense of quality for the user.

But let's move along to what I really want this device to impart on this user. I loaded it with some budderking and immediately got huuuge hits. :whoa:

The taste seemed fine - though very much afaik as I don't know the bk product and I'm quite new to these contemporary "extract" concentrates - a handful of recent dab bars visits in total.

Did I mention this thing HITS. Like a truck. Of nails.

I do though find it to be on the hot side and harsh on the throat. I certainly don't hold the button down for 10 seconds, instead on for a few, then off for a beat, then on again for a few, etc. In this way, I can back off from the hit being too harsh. I did have a couple of hits through my bub and that was a huge help. One can simply slide onto the mp a short length of 7th Floor whip tubing (3/8" inner diameter) which fits a 14mm joint fine. Bear in mind though that until my recent dabs I only vape-bonged flowers, and at moderate temperatures. So, I'm a wimp.

I expect with a combination of improvement in technique along with my throat getting used to it, this issue will diminish. I can see how the globe attachment could help in 2 ways - cooling the vapor and being able to see the vapor (in order to hit it more lightly if desired)? Otherwise, there's extending the path by adding a bit of tubing, different batts, etc.

The bowl with the recessed coil seems very big to me. I've yet to have the occasion to fill the bowl, but that will surely be fun.

The extras are all nice. The scoop tool makes sense I think for the size and shape of the ceramic bowl. However after struggling with the sticky budder for some time I recalled a member's recommendation for the SSV poker (or similar) and I switched to that.

I like the inclusion of a pamphlet, but would favour more information over graphic design (white space). I'm biased - I like useful information readily available (pamphlet and/or web site) to users of newish products. So, I like the pamphlet in general. (I also forgot about the 5-click trick when I first got it  and the pamphlet reminded me why my heater wasn't ... working).

I haven't tried the shatterproof balls, but I like 'em ... and will load one up when I visit my friendly, local budtender for recommendations of something tasty tomorrow (today?). I'm also looking forward to more plooooms through the bubblubbubbler.

Of course, the additional extras on the deal here are

Mostly I'm just happy to have a powerful portable in my life. Something this small and powerful is a Ghost I can get friendly with.

DD's clearly made efforts to distinguish itself in this market - including joining us here and the customer service I've received. Thanks Dr.Dabber. I feel DD has a done a great job coming up with a quality package at a great price.

That's gonna have to do it. Toothpicks. Gotta remember to get toothpicks.

Excellent review! Hopefully the Ti coils help a bit with some of the concerns you guys are having. Everything you guys here tell me does not get overlooked. I will take all your input and concerns and keep them in mind while I try to take this brand to the next level. Any advice on what we can do to make the consumer happier is fantastic and I appreciate all of your help!

what is the cleaning process here? Soak the heater top down in enough iso to cover the ceramic bowl? It doesn't come apart, right?
What are toothpicks for, chimpy?

We've noticed that if you do soak the whole piece in alcohol, the rubber does peel a bit. I would recommend if you are using the alcohol to just pour directly into the ceramic dish and let it sit over night.. Then take out and dry and then attach back to the battery and heat until the alcohol burns off. Also for the best possible taste you might want to consider changing your coil every month or so.

Also The toothpicks are a good tool to use to clean out the wells around the coil (never touching the coil or wick) and then the reclaim can be put back on top of the heating element.

On page 2 of the VB Dabbler thread Vitolo discusses using round toothpicks to scrape oil off the sides of the chamber and dab onto the coils. (I think wood is preferred over metal to avoid any scratching of the ceramic).

He also posts about ISO cleaning of the coils and bowl. Dr.Dabbler has also confirmed that this is fine. I would avoid getting ISO on any of the coated black though. Myself I haven't done any cleaning yet.

EDIT: DD beat me to it. See above.

I use the toothpick method myself, works fine. Has anyone else adapted to water? Honestly, with a good pen that can hold a load (giggity)like the DD does IMO is as close as your getting to a nail. I'm curious to see what my fellow weed nerds have come up with.

Hell yeah. Easiest is to slide the mp end into an inch or so of standard 7th floor hose tubing (3/8" inner diameter) and upside-down it into a 14mm joint and hit it.

EDIT: mvapes, oh now I see that you were asking if anyone ELSE has adapted it to water.

EDIT2: I picked up some "Reserva Privada Collection High Grade BHO Vac Purged Sativa 100% Made From Top Nugs" Congolese Sap today and had a session in a park today. wow was that tasty and quite smooth. All I could taste was the sweet, clean sap. A world of difference from the bk butter with which I christened my bowl. Prior to the switch to the Congolese I cleaned my bowl by the toothpick method (along the sides of the cup) followed by iso soak and blot.

Also, I like the round toothpicks for dabbers on-the-go. I had no problem loading my sap into my cup from my ball.

The ball is functioning fine - reasonably airtight, good size, easy to open and close, and non-stick. I also like that it has enough of a flat bottom that it can stand upright. 1 of my 2 balls does still smell a bit though. har har. I've washed it yet the plastic-y smell remains. Honestly, I'm not bothered and expect it'll lessen with time and become overwhelmed with oil smells?

Well no surprise really - the Congolese sap through my bub was very smooth and a monster. All harshness taken completely out for me. Certainly some flavour was lost and I can see why extracts rigs are small, but still very nice. (The $40 pipes daddy bub springs to mind as a good, cheap candidate).

I was actually struggling a bit with technique. I realized that as I've only used my SSV (whip) with my bubbler, I'm used to an open air path; whereas a pen, or in fact many devices, would plug one plug thereby creating a restricted air path. I was debating between a pulsing technique applying heat and clearing (the 'hit' comprised of a few seconds of heat, clear, a few seconds of heat, clear, etc then finally clear and exhale) vs hit comprised of one slow long draw with heat, letting the can build, then final clear. Anyway, I'd like to try again :science:, but I'm parked, feeling fine, and will be switching to my usual routine with the green flowers later.

I'm already thinking of that first dab tomorrow with that Congolese sap. Yep, I was impressed today with the taste and smoothness of it. In fact, I can already see that my budtender's recommendation to start the day with a fresh sweet dab of Congolese was right on. Apparently, some prefer (sativa) extracts in the day and (indica) flowers in the eve. That suits my plans for this device as an out-and-about #. The places we'll go, the things we'll see.

For those wondering how it compares to other pens.... Well, I haven't exactly had other 'ecig style' ones like this, but you can see in my signature the Thermovapes I have. This thing can hit just as hard as the Cera at a fraction of the cost. The build quality is lower, but we're talking ~$75 vs $250+!

Not saying lower in a bad way, just different materials!

totally different from the sticky lipz pen to say the least. did not realize how much I was missing.
personally loving it but no frame of reference to compare it to other good quality pens. found my portable dab solution though
congol sap sounds fucking killer btw
Found my portable dab solution! Hell yeah!
The Congolese sap is known at that dispens. as some preemo shit. But tasty shit. It's not cheap, but whew that sap in the Dabber was the best tasting extract I've had yet. Very clean. A slight orangey taste. And then quite a balanced high I thought.

Woah easy there. Those be fighting words around these boards I'd expect.

I'd guess that you're basically right, but the Cera is more versatile / modular (EO, LL cores) and has other (?) advantages or slightly different applications...

They are ENTIRELY different beasts, the Cera is a more durable, and more costly device that does have more versatility. The longevity of it is also a lot greater.
But for the amount of vapor when they are both loaded with concentrates are very similar and more than enough.

I wasn't trying to bash either device, you can get to the same place with a Toyota or a Ferrari. You can vape with a cheap box vape or a Cloud/Volcano.

Both work, it's just a different class.
