Has anyone struggled with giving up smoking cigarettes?

When talking about the health consequences of snus versus other forms of tobacco I think it's important to specify Swedish snus, as in snus made in Sweden and not just "snus in the Swedish style".

Those outside of the US may not know it but the snus that has recently come on the market in the US from Camel and Marlboro is not made with tobacco of the same quality and cure as that which Swedish snus is made from. They also contain less nicotine per pouch and are marketed as a smoking complement rather than replacement…

I think it only has to do with the Quantity you use , most snus here comes in little pouches as compared to chaw where you use a huge wet plug of tobacco . other then that :shrug:IDK .

The tobacco used will be air cured and not fire/flue cured and then it will be pasteurised. This helps bring down the level of TSNAs in the tobacco.

I'm on day 14 at the moment without a cigarette or any tobacco...

22 days cigarette free.

It feels empowering.

- face has more color
- breathing is great
- food tastes better
- sense of smell is better
- can smell how bad smokers smell
- smell good
- save money
- no sneaking off during work
- no slavery.

I simply smoked a bowl every time cravings would get overwhelming for the first few days.

After 5-7 days smoking the ancient 'erb without tobacco, I noticed a change in my desire to get high.

- I no longer smoke immediately upon waking. I am fulfilled without it.

- I don't smoke on the job.

- Upon returning home it doesn't matter if I take a shower, have dinner or walk the dog before smoking a bowl; that sense of urgency is GONE.

MJ is no longer as much of a priority in my life.

Amen to that - you get all these benefits with switching to snus too. But you feel happy and insouciant to other smokers something which you don't often have when you abstain completely.

Officially one month free of tobacco.

The fights over and I've won. It's just maintenance and checking off milestones now.

Gratz, but................the ONLY time that you can say that the fight is over and that you've won is when you're laying on your death bed at 85 years old and dying of something else other than lung cancer.

The fight is over... There's a message for all the smokers out there at home.

At one month in I feel now as if I'd never smoked a cigarette. All the cue-induced craving that hung around a little longer(after dinner, coffee with friends.. etc) is gone.

I don't drink alcohol and until I again choose to, smoking is a non-issue.

I'm a non-smoker.

Space is the Place
I Quit for four years after a little over fifteen years of smoking and it was easy until I got around people who smoked . Now I've been a smoker for 38 years with a four year break 23 years ago .

Still it is much simpler now to stay away from smokers , Knowmad Hope you make it . smoking Is the most useless luxury I afford myself and I would quit again if I wasn't just sitting around on my ass just waiting for another day to pass . GO FOR IT , Stay Nicotine free and live well . :peace:

All I'm saying, knowmad, is that while it's perfectly ok to pat yourself on the back for a job well done, don't get so cocky as to think the war is over. You won a battle, but once addicted to any substance, the war is never truly over, for it is just lurking around the corner just waiting to take advantage of some misplaced rationale.

Exactly, i was smoke free for 4.5 years and relapsed in Jan. I thought was good to go after all that time  but like i always said-i was one puff away from 2 packs a day and i was :| Smoked for 3 months  now i'm on E-cigs-better but… Do not delude yourself into thinking that you're smoke free and do not take hits off your friends cigarettes in a moment of weakness.

i'm not 100% sure it's that, but there is a difference between smoking and vaping, even at high temperatures. I've heard many people saying that the effets with the vape are somehow "cleaner", but it's difficult to point at what exatly it is.

And so begins sober September.

I'll most likely use this thread as a journal throughout initial withdrawal and re-adjusting.

on day 5 of sobriety.

- i've noticed my tolerance for so many things has gone WAY down.

- i've lost the grey area in-between being really happy and really god damn angry.. explosive rage is never far away, so it seems.

- i observed today some social anxiety/sweating that i hadn't experienced in a long time... a touch of depersonalization even.

- negative hypothetical situations have arisen in my mind throughout the last few days; situations that for some bizarre reason, i entertain. most often these thoughts involve conflict and violence, of which i am the perpetrator (or vindicator, in my own mind at the time)

i can only re-assure myself that this is a standard part of psychological withdrawal, as apposed to all of this being the new "sober me".

there's a list of benefits i could rattle off, but its 3.16 in the morning and i feel they need more exploration than the negatives. ... soon again.

time heals all things.
