i am a great lover of geek culture. i subscribe to things like the nerdist and geek and sundry and star talk (with NDT) on youtube as well as to i fucking love science, GRSA (Geeky Redheads and their Supporters and Admirers), Tysonism, etc. on FB. (p.s. GRSA's tumbler page is NSFW!)

i am one of those annoying people who consider myself spiritual, but not religious.
i believe in math above all. sacred geometry, the tree of life, fibonacci, fractals, etc.
i guess you could call me a quantum seeker, or a fool, whichever works for you ;).
my tag is astralnaut for a reason ;) so any method of enlightenment is welcome.

i am aware that i might be "crossing the streams" as it were and to make things clearer
i am not look for palmistry or phrenology or seance workers
nor am i looking for extreme atheists or the dogmatic of any kind.

Alex Grey is a huge artistic inspiration, as is Tool.

Please share stories, pictures, videos. anything that is a celebration
of geek culture, science, philosophy, art, or spirituality.
again, this is to celebrate, not argue or challenge.
if you choose to engage in debate, please do it in a personal message.

I call this psychedelic spirituality. Exactly as you described when one refused traditional religions, yet believes in higher powers of the universe. A god may fit into the psychedelic spirituality as well, yet he would be far different from every religious definition of god. The god may be the universe itself. I've always been fascitated by sheer fractal detail of the universe going into infinity. We are not even sure if we found even one end of the zoom spectrum. And if the unviverse is a fractal, does it contain infinite number of other universes as well? Black holes could be the best candidates for that. They are exploded singularities from a single point to a finite ellipse - just like a big bang. However we can't see into them.
It is almost getting scary how you can see fractal literally everywhere in the nature. Every life form is a fractal, including the evolution tree itself. As well as galaxies and everything natural that occurs in the universe.

Alex Grey's painting are from the other universe. He has an amazing combination of two skills - retrieving perfect images from deep psychedelic journeys and being able to put them on paper somehow.
All of this is why I call this kind of spirituality psychedelic. Psychedelic are catalyzers of this thinking. It was a psychedelic journey what opened my eyes the most to the fractal beauty and mystery of everything as well as all these spiritual concepts.
Of course people don't need psychedelics to get there or even to obtain this kind of spirituality. Psychedelic thinking has its seeds in all of us. Some will kill them, some will grow them through meditation, openness to everything, or psychedelics...

this is a good place to mention.. i have the e-book: Be Here Now - by Ram Dass, hidden in my signature.. any one interested, click just after the end of the joint.. i forgot that was stashed there. :peace:

edit: i also have 2 Lao Tzu e-books stashed in my profile under the information section.. you have to click the last (green) star.

nice catch ;) loved that episode.

i also was gonna call it "Kill All Extremists!" but thought that might raise some flags, lol

although i still want to make a shirt with that on it and it is my fervent wish that i am shot by some crazed idealogue while wearing that shirt, who then reads the shirt, gets the irony and blows his/her own head off. did i mention that i am a sick fuck? only by making friends with the darkness can we stop it from controlling us :ko:

I read part of that and it reminds me of Kerouac ... have you read "On The Road" or "The Dharma Bums" or "Dr. Sax"? ("On The Road" is one of my favourite all time books ...)

@Bob Loblaw ... I fall into the same category as you Bob ... I believe in Math above all else as well (and am not at all religious although hope there is more to life than what we are conscious of) ... the Stephen Hawking's "The Grand Design" is an excellent read and talks a lot about the Universe and leaves you with as many questions as answers (as science has a way of doing!) ... the way stuff behaves at a quantum level really make me wonder how limited our actual understanding of things and ability to grasp/think-of certain things and process them might be ... (ie. there might be a lot more to it than meets the eye ... its a real strange idea that our observation of events that occurred in the past can effect their impact/outcome ... don't want to get into the in depth explanation ... but it's a matter of observation makes something factual as opposed to probable and eliminates the other probabilities as their magnitudes go to zero once you have a certainty and thus those other probabilities cease to impact reality changing ... at a quantum level everything that can occur does occur with varying magnitudes of probability ...)

Anyways ... everyone should read (more like studying though ... it's a tough read) "The Grand Design" by Stephen Hawking ... it's probably the easiest to understand work on our current understanding of the Universe though ...

@ Jcat, i also really enjoy quantum philosophy. if you already have a base understanding, and enjoy strange fiction, you might also like...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Illuminatus!_Trilogy

The Illuminatus! Trilogy is a series of three novels written by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson first published in 1975.[1] The trilogy is a satirical, postmodern, science fiction-influenced adventure story; adrug-, sex-, and magic-laden trek through a number of conspiracy theories, both historical and imaginary, related to the authors' version of the Illuminati. The narrative often switches between third and first person perspectives and jumps around in time. It is thematically dense, covering topics like counterculture, numerology, and Discordianism.

lots of crazy shit goes down as you can imagine. blends the lines between reality and non-reality. i first read it at the most (in)opportune time in my life. while trying to shut down my third eye after spending a year tranced out on speed prying it open (and reading everything from crowley to hawking). i need to reread it again. it's how i first learned about schroedinger

@Bob Loblaw ... Love those dystopian books! Looks like this series is along those lines! I'll check it out after my current work stint insanity and I finish the series I started while on vacation (the "I Am Number Four" series ... a fun read so far ... no Kerouac but I really couldn't handle a Kerouac right now as I'm too busy with work.

wow, that's two votes for Ramanujan! gotta check that stuff out!

in other news, new jellyfish. named bazinga after "The Big Bang Theory"

Bro do read about Ramanujan, though he had a very sad life, but he was truly blessed..
He sometimes, used to go hungry for days, coz wateva money he had, he spent it to buy paper and pencils. He didn't have a eraser , so he had a habit of using his elbow to wipe , and make corrections..he used to say that , all his work used to come to him in his dreams, where god used to tell him all these formulas

I am personally not a science geek per-say, i know about sheldrakes work but I'm sure you guys will find these other links insightful.
