Away with the fairies
Hi all, I'm looking to purchase a new portable vaporizer. I have the Arizer Solo which is awesome :) ..... but I'm looking for something a bit more festival friendly (i.e. not glass and doesn't require recharging). I've narrowed it down to these two, given that they offer a relatively cleaner means of vaping using a lighter - but I don't know anyone who has tried either. Any advice you can offer on which performs best, or any recommendations for other vaporizers you think may fit the bill, would be really appreciated - peace and out

You can get the unstained/unprotected version of vapman for around $80 normally I believe. So that is a lower cost option if you missed the sale.

Hi FrogBoy138 - thanks for your suggestions :):
They have the VG coil for $40 and the classic for $50 seems like some crazy good deals to me. Wish I could get one. I would also look into the Lithe if you have a $100 to drop on it.
Whilst these both look really well made and have advantages in terms of cost, I am hoping to buy a vaporiser that doesn't use a direct flame method for heating, for a pure a vaporizing experience as possible.

Thanks for the heads-up Tweek :):

I'm based in the UK, have seen the "pure" version on e-bay for about £65. Have been wondering whether this or the "mica" version offers greater efficiency & how they both compare to the Lotus....... :)

Can't find a comparison online....... can anyone offer their opinion??? :peace:

Sorry, I've never used the Lotus, just the Vapman with mica. I enjoy it more as vape for hanging in the backyard, or attaching to my glass when I feel like going back to basics. You can get nice fat hits, but it will take a bit of practice with the torch. Bowl size is small as well.

The mica is a personal preference. Alot of guys around here just bought the basic and are not bothered by the charred wood.

The Mica does look really nice and I like that they also sell wooden mouth pieces.... the only thing that bothers me slightly is that their website states that the mica can chip off/flake with use.... have you had that problem?

No problem with flaking so far, but it's not in your air path so it doesn't really concern me much at all.

Edit: Just had another look at my unit, and I guess you could say the mica is indirectly in the airpath, as the small intake tubes rest on it. That being said, mine still looks great.

This vid will give you a pretty good idea of its size:

If you look at the Lotus thread:

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-lotus-vaporizer.2595/page-24#post-423811

They're offering a 15% discount for a month in celebration of their patent being issued ;)

Not sure if there's any discount on the Vapman at the mo though.....

Good lookin' with that 15% off code, I went with the Lotus... after doing a good old Ted Mosby Pro and Con List. Here were my findings:

Vapman
  • Aesthetics, this thing looks like I should wear a monocle while using it
  • Craftsmanship and Materials Used Mica and Gold Plating. Nothing says quality like the Swiss.
  • Personal Device with a Smaller Bowl .085 grams
  • The worry of someone ruining the Vapman, charring wood etc. Again as a personal device this is great but I can see myself cringing if one of my friends accidently burns an edge.
  • One recommendation to Vapman should they read these forums... Make a 14mm attachment as the mouth pieces are already replaceable. This feature would have made my decision hard. (However since all I've seen were makeshift plastic tubes affixed to a bubbler, I was not keen on something so primitive).
Lotus
  • Durability down the road, all metal vs wood Vapman unit. This seems like it would be in the same condition down the road and easier to clean without damaging anything. Wood cold warp etc.
  • For the same price as the Vapman I can purchase an ability to work with my existing bong via 14mm adapter.
  • Larger Bowl and Good for more than 1 Person.
  • USA made. if there is one thing I've learned with overseas warranty's the hassle with shipping can sometimes cost an arm and a Leg.
  • Fun Factor. I have no doubt the Vapman is amazing... But its ritual, to reload seems a bit much for such little material. The Lotus on the other hand looks to reload rather quickly.
  • One recommendation to Lotus, make a more appealing Stem. Would it kill to have a sherlock type pipe that the Lotus cap could affix? Functionality wise a straight pipe is fine. but its not as appealing as say something that curves in a "S" shape. ;)
Both (based on reviews) have similar vapor production even though the Lotus thread tries to discredit the Vapmans Convection heating (in addition to conduction). :myday:The mica version has convection via the Air Nozzles when you heat the Mica plate. I didnt like that in the comparison vs the Vapman they upsell the Lotus' convection Heating. See the following description for convection heating from Vapman: The nozzle system especially developed for the vapman ensures the ideal mixture of air and active ingredients and makes the device particularly easy to use. The three nozzles with their extremely small holes are made of brass. They are held in a stepped bore and are flanged at the end. This allows them to be bound very securely to the pan.

In the end for me it came down to Looks vs Ease of Use. Since I enjoy sharing my wonderful purchases with friends the Lotus became the clear choice. Thanks FC for another informed purchase.

Great comparison list you have compiled there S1N3....... I guess I'll just have to purchase a monocle now, as I'm awaiting delivery of the Vapman! I opted for the Pure/Basic version over the Mica, not because of it's lower price (although that of course is a bonus!), but because I have read good things about that model and it completely avoids the niggling concerns I have (justified or otherwise) over the flaking of the Mica.

However, I'm also considering purchasing the Lotus in the next couple of weeks whilst the 15% off offer is still available. In comparison to the Vapman Pure it is quite a bit pricier for me to purchase in the EU, given the added shipping costs - but I do love the look of it and the simplicity it appears to offer in terms of reloading.

I agree that the stem is a little plain, but that doesn't really put me off it, as overall it's a great looking vape..... but, given its name, I think it would be quite nice to see some leaf engraving on the stem :)

Hey Seren,

Did you ever buy the Lotus?

I'd really like to hear a comparison between the Vapman and the Lotus.

Thanks!
