Hello Everyone,

Just here to introduce the Zenpen - A sleek pen vape for herbs!

This past Christmas my engineering friends and I decided that there was a lot of room for improvement in the portable vaporizer market, after 6 months of development this is the result.

Features:
-Ultra portable: Size of a fountain pen
-Fast: Heats up to 210 C in ~ 5secs
-Convenient: Snap on magnetic usb charger allows for charging while vaping
-Durable: Made of stainless steel, the Zenpen is practically indestructible
-Powerful: Li-Pol battery allows for hi power heating, long battery life 4+ hours!
-Precise: User adjustable micro-processor controlled temperature, never burn your herb!
-Safe: Clean vapor path, heating element is medical grade brass
-Discrete: Looks like a stylish pen!
-Aesthetic: Sleek design, available in a range of colours or metal finish
-Ergonomics: Tactile mechanical click button

We've worked hard to make the Zenpen the stealthiest, toughest and most powerful portable vape possible.

To use the Zenpen:
-Unscrew the front, insert herbs, screw together, and click on the button
-The red LEDs will light up signalling that it is heating, when the LEDs turn blue, its ready to go!

What's next?

We have completed our final round of prototyping and are planing to launch a kickstarter campaign this July to raise funds in order to set up manufacturing and cover tooling costs. Our kickstarter backers will be able to purchase one of the first Zenpen's for only $99.

To follow our development and be notified of our launch date, check out our blog

We thank you in advance for your support and welcome any questions or feedback you might have!

Welcome to the forum, zen! So this does not do oils, correct? That would make it the first herbs only pen-sized vape that I am aware of.

I'll get this out there now for anyone who was going to comment on the brass heating element...we have a thread for brass safety discussion, so no need to get into that here.

Any reason you didn't use stainless steel?

Thanks for the welcome! We chose the brass based on its heat properties and made sure we sourced 100% lead free brass. For oils you can do what companies like Arizer suggest which is to put a sterile cotton ball in the chamber and drop your oils on it.

this little guy is very intriguing. im curious if the mouth piece gets uncomfortably warm. a very stylish vape for sure, cant wait to find out more.

Welcome to FC, ZenPen!

How is temperature adjusted?
Convection or conduction dominant?
I assume the holes in the body are the air inlets?
Does the unit amass heat over time?
How large(or small) of an amount is the chamber capable of handling?

Thanks!

It doesn't get too warm thanks to a little feat of engineering we were able to implement. We haven't patented it yet though so its our little secret for now :smug:

Temperature is adjusted with a dial at the back of the pen

The heating is a pretty balanced combo of conduction and convection. Those holes are in fact the air inlets, we've played around with the dimensions to ensure a comfortable draw. As for the chamber size, you can fit about .2-.3 grams of herb. The volume is just over 1 cubic centimeter.

2-3 Grams?? Dang i wonder how evenly it would vape? Lots of stirring going to be involved? Loving the look though, definetly will watch for a bit more info before i make any plunge.

So how big is this thing?

Seems to me if the bowl is actually capable of holding in excess of two grams, then it would have to be pretty large both in length and diameter. That coupled with the scale presented in the pictures, makes it seem unlikely to me that the unit could be anywhere near the size of a fountain pen, since it would need a significantly sized battery to be able to vaporize such large amounts for upwards of four hours.

Do you have any pictures of the prototypes that you would like to share with us, or will we only have the 3D mockups as reference to go on? We like our nerd porn over here.

I am very interested to see this vaporizer come to fruition, but as an engineer I have my reservations about it actually being able to achieve these impressive characteristics, especially in such a small size. Are you certain it will hold upwards of 2 grams or did you perhaps mean to type .2 - .3? That seems to be closer to the cubic centimetre of biomass you cited, and would make a lot more sense.

Best of luck with your development all the same though.

Hey guys, this looks like a really cool vape and I like how you keep us updated every step of the way on your website !
How would it do with a less than full chamber? (0.1-0.3) wich is what most portable vaporizers currently are holding?

Man I just narrowed it between a pax an ascent or thermovape t1

Now this lol ah man it looks sick when is it coming out!?

Sorry about that! You're absolutely right, I meant to type .2 -.3 grams.

Well that certainly makes more sense. Definitely in the realms of feasibility.

pax, ascent or thermovape t1

I'd say you can safely buy yourself your first vape now, judging from the development information that they are showing on their blog, this is probably several months away from seeing a consumer release.

The pen has a diameter of 14mm and is 14.5 cm long. We'll be putting up pictures of the new prototype once it gets here, the current one has the same specs but looks a little different.

Can hash be used in this also the mouth piece will not be too hot since it's metal?

I think if we were snoop dogg or bob marley we would need atleast 2 gram bowls lol

Hmm true say... It seems like a solid item great price too

And the ascent still isn't out yet so dang might just bite the bullet regarding the cleaning issue of the pax and go for that

Zenpen, just an idea while you are busy tweeking everything (to be honest, not sure it it will please everybody but I figure it might...)
Why not offer (as an option) also a shorter charging cable, with the loop that fits the button I can see myself hanging it on my key chain and using one of my very small portable battery chargers, man I'm gonna feel like james bond when on the go !

Hey Belgianvapor, that's not a bad idea! We were also wondering if people would be interested in a 5 or 7 foot charging cord for if they're at home having a sesh with a bunch of friends and want to pass it around. What do you think?

what about one of those "retractable" cords wich can go from 2 inch total lenth to 5 feet or so, it clicks fixed every 4 inches or so and when you retract it completely it automatically rolls itself up to the 2 inch again.
