Just checking in here.. I haven't been running as much lately it seems, but did just get a new bike(traded some infused Nutella for it :)).. Guys at my store and the guys at the coffee shop and I did our first "get weird Wednesday" ride last night.. Was a very nice treck through the city. Love riding while vaped.. The breeze in your face.. No words describe exactly how blissful that can be!!

Vapes on vapes on vapes!
Well the weather here has been dictating my outdoor exercise lately. Went from jogging in ~60 degrees yesterday to shoveling 6+ inches of wet heavy snow today and by Monday they are estimating it is going to be ~70 again. Winter is still lingering here.

It hit 98 degrees today. I think my pace this afternoon is going to be a tad slower until I get used to the heat. Typically take me a few weeks for my body to gear up.

Well I broke two shovels trying to shovel all this snow. Looks like a sign that I should be vaping instead.

Sorry, I know it's a bit OT, but it sure is a heck of a workout.

Pickz - vaping and the impetus behind it is NEVER off topic in this thread! ;)

Now - off to run hills. I entered the Mt Diablo marathon for a third go of it. September 15 is the date.

Misty and high 50s today. Perfect running weather. I'll have a vape session first, of course.

Been riding my bike so much lately since my car engine died. Cant say I have vaped while riding, but I certainly look forward to trying it (not soon though looking at new jobs gotta be sober).

I'm down to 170 all my friends think im sick or something. I just have dropped mass I might bulk up to 185 (but that requires SO much EATING!) . Its down from 220 a year and a half ago so Im pretty happy. I hope everyone is doing well, being healthy, and reaching their personal fitness goals!

PS: Last time I vaped I had a friend over. We vaped then I told him to try out my foam roller. The noises this guy was making he loved every second of it lol!

Wow, found my thread! I'd actually consider myself an amateur athlete as well. In fact it was getting back on the bike and finally getting competitive with mountain bike racing that inspired me to buy my first and only vaporizer years ago. I'm using a Vapor Bros whip style vaporizer. I like it OK. TBH I'm not so sure it's light years healthier than smoking. I LOVE smoking I have to admit, yes I'm one of those, so I tend to go back and forth between vaporizing sessions and simply packing a bowl after a long day of working or riding (basically my life). I'd consider myself a chronic user no matter the format as I use daily mainly now for a sleeping aid - I also love the analgesic effects after hard training sessions (some one mentioned a foam roller?! Vaporizing is great to do before this!)

What I've always struggled with is the idea that I should probably quit using herb altogether, and I've tried. Honestly quitting has always made me feel like shit - even though the lungs feel better (even when just vaporizing) I become moody and in fact my wife will encourage me to "take my medicine" - any way I'd like to get back into vaporizing, and I'd like to get up to date about it as I know the whip style vaporizer is now old school! What I've noticed about my personal 'training' and health in general is that it's not whether or not I choose to vaporize v. smoke, it's how often I'm working out and at what intensity. In other words my lungs generally feel great after I've put in a proper training week, no matter if I've been smoking or vaporizing - however if I haven't been riding and smoking/vaporizing just as much, I feel it in my lungs the next time I ride. I can usually get over this sensation after a day or two of 'training' - obviously, for me the goal should be to quit altogether but I believe that the positive outweighs the negatives for me. At the end of the day I enjoy the process of using herb and I want to enjoy my life. It's the last vice I have and I'm not sure I'm ready to let it go!

I want something high quality and probably portable. I've done a lot of reading and I'm leaning towards a PAX. it's a lot of money but half the cost of a quality table unit. Thoughts?

Do you other athletes or active people really feel like vaporizing is that much better than burning? I don't smoke/vap throughout the day, it's always a night cap for me as well. Thanks!

I am the Vapor King--I can do anything
Personally I always vape, though not excessively, before playing sports or running, etc. I have a Purple Days (Log Vape) hooked up with a small bong. It's basically a water filtered one hitter that packs a powerful punch, yet is still smooth, amd especially smooth with the bong. I also have a Variable Voltage Power Supply that allows me to change the temp to my preference (pretty hot, so that the ABV turns blackish brown). Vaping one stem always gets me to the right place before sports/exercise. The vapor gets me going and turns up my focus--it helps me to feel 'in the groove'.

I'd recommend picking up a log vape. I have loved my PD for a few years, since I built it. Purple Days are no longer being made, but there are other vapes out there, some that even come with a variable voltage power supply, which I do recommend. I would also recommend a water pipe like this one:http://www.everyonedoesit.com/onlin...bong-hexagon-foot---250ml.cfm?iProductID=5909.

Good luck!;pd;

Welcome, friend and fellow vaporist/athlete!

I have the Pax and like it well enough. Keep it clean, and it will treat you very well. But cleaning must be frequent. You might consider the Solo if you will only purchase one vape--I don't own one but have used one and it gets rave reviews here as a great portable/home vape. If you can wait a bit, the Ascent by Divinci seems quite promising and will be the same price as the Pax.

I've totally fucked combustion. Haven't sparked a bowl in 1 1/2 years and feel great. I combusted for about 20 years. I encourage you to get a good portable and try forsaking combustion for a couple weeks. See how that goes. But ultimately, you should use in the manner that gets you the most pleasure--but I'm confident you'll find equal if not more pleasure by owning a good vape.

I'm with you--herb gives me pleasure and helps me get the most out of my life. Doesn't drag me down or demotivate me at all. I'm very active.

Again, welcome to the forum and this thread!!

Edit: oh, I LOVE my foam roller. Love it!!

run high
I've been running high for a little over a year now. I do feel that it affects my performance. I am generally content to toot along slowly. I feel less willing (or unable) to get out of my comfort zone when high. Perhaps this is a manifestation of having a much higher heart rate and lower blood pressure. I'm 41 years old and I estimate my HR max at around 185 bpm, lactate threshold around 160-165. Before I regularly used MJ my heart rate on a routine easy run would average about 135-145. Now it's usually 150-160. I wonder about this.

Am I increasing the cardiovascular load of training by getting high, or are the normal recommendations for heart rate training no longer valid?

Is my lactate threshold (LT) higher while I'm high? Or am I getting more aerobic stimulus from less physical effort?

THC can typically raise your HR by 20 to 30 bpm.

If I were you, I would try to maintain my HR at pre-THC levels.

On another note, I notice that if I drink coffee an hour before a run, my times will get better while maintaining my normal HR at the zones I typically train in.

According to a blog posting my Mark Sisson, over at Marks Daily Apple, that would be because caffeine helps your cells release fatty acids into the blood stream to be used as fuel. You have more fuel in your system, so your body isn't working so hard. :)

Blazed runner, running while high is an interesting topic. Unlike many on this thread , I hardly ever run high. If I do, it's usually only my slow recovery runs or slow long runs, but I never run high when doing high intensity runs such as tempo runs or any speedwork like intervals. I don't feel it would be unsafe, it's just for me high intensity training and weed don't mix well. On the other hand, vaping a few hours af.ter or the evening after higH intensity training does wonders for muscle and joint pain and has me sleeping like a baby at night. As far as heart rate is concerned, I don't use a heart rate monitor so I don't really know. But I do know weed especially sativas can increase heartrate, but that's usually only for like the first 10 minutes or so. Also BP is known to go up slightly above baseline initially then actually go down slightly below baseline. It's so subtle though, I don't think it would affect training. Bottom line, if vaping gives you motivation and increased performance go for it.

It's interesting, Trail Runner magazine just had an article on this exact subject in the current issue ... I think July issue. The article was (" Marijuana Performance Enhancer"?). I was surprised to learn many endurance runners actually use small quantities of weed as a performance booster and or for recovery.. Kinda like some athletes that use caffeine for that purpose. Anyway, they found that some runners liked it and affected their performance positively while others did not. As marijuana use becomes more mainstream I think we will see more people open up and talk about it.....

On another note, I just ran the San Diego Rock N Roll 1/2 marathon last Sunday. Ran a personal best!! Vaped some Bubba Kush the night before which helped me get rid of the prerace jitters, go to bed early and get some sleep before the event....

Btw Blazzedrunner, I have no idea what my Vo2 max is... In a race I just run like a motherfucker at a pace I think I can maintain for the distance.

Happy Trails all you Crazy Athlete Vaporists!!!!

Yeah, for me, vaping and running would go together about as well as whipped cream and garlic infused sauteed mushrooms. When I get buzzed, the LAST thing I want to do is exert myself doing anything, least of all, running.

I hear you, and if I were going for speed, I'd likely not vape (or vape lightly) before running. But I'm out on the trails--a soul runner, if you will, and vaping is conducive to zoning out so I don't think about miles/speed.

I think weed helps me in many ways, but again, if I were going for speed my habits would likely be different prior to vaping. Happy Trails to you, too!!

Exactly,! Sometimes I vape before my long mellow trail runs. A lot of times I think I've ran like 5 miles, but look down at my Garmin and it shows 10. Time dialation is definitely a factor lol. Zone out effect for sure......

Did a very tough 6.5 miler today on the mountain. Average elevation of 5,000 ft. Vaped a bit via my Pax at its low setting before the race, ran well, had a great lunch and have been vaping my nuts off since. A great Father's Day for sure. Happy Father's Day to all daddy vaporist athletes!

Don't know about his private life, but could you imagine the trouble Tony Soprano could get into in Italy? The excitement could have been too much.

As an Italian, his death makes me question my second helping of lasagna.

I have an Italian last name and have been raised by Italians. As soon as I read this I thought ugh we lost another one :ugh:

Which reminds me of a story I'd like to share.

My grandmother would tell me her grandmother would have her read the obituaries every Sunday.( as my grandmothers grandmother couldn't read or speak english). It would go something to the extent of this.

My grandma: John Shultz was a good man father of...
Her grandma: *grumble*
My grandma: Andrew Miller worked at a steel mill all his...
Her grandma: *grumble grumble grumble*
My grandma: Paul Moretti.....
Her grandma: *make the sign of the cross* *grabs rosary* And starts praying frantically in Italian over the tragedy of Paul Moretti's passing.

Hope y'all enjoyed!
