The kief collection

I got so many damn flavours of eliquid I have nothing to do with them and thats why im doing all this, like i litterally have about 11 30 ml bottles that are all almost full. I wish i could use them more but I dont know how, I got pretty bored of my E-cig it was giving me issues always bubbling and giving me gross tasting hoots.

I recommend just doing it the same way as you did with the bowls before. I was a full time spliff smoker before I switched to vaping and I understand wanting to get a similar buzz to the on: (in my Solo stem) a little pinch of nice rolling tobacco, I use Stokkebye's Danish Export, and then just fill the rest of the bowl with shake or ground herbs or whatever you've got. For extra potency/vapor I like to crumble some finger hash in between the tobacco and the herbs. Always put the tobacco furthest from the heat source though to avoid burning, since it vaporizes at a lower temperature.

Last post got messed up somehow, what I meant was: ...wanting to get a similar buzz to the one you're used to. My daily method is: (in my Solo stem) a little... etc.

I went through a similar thought process... but as I sat pondering it, extreme q whip in one hand, e-cig in the other, I realised it's all completely unnecessary.

Just vape weed and vape ecigs at the same time. You look a bit silly using two devices at the same time, but you get exactly the right effect, with no extra fuss. One day I might attempt my own eliquid tincture, but really, what's the point?

Nice! Question, is there anything specific about those coins that help (type of metal) or is it just there to help filter the kief?

Great Question: They are there just to push the kief through, a heavy coin i found was better than a penny.

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing the cold coins help knock the chilled crystals. I couldn't read the scale the first time. What was the initial weight if your herb?

Coins are bad things to use. They can get scratched up and cause microscopic amounts of metal to get into your herb and kief. Use glass beads instead. Make sure they don't have any paint on them though so you don't get that into your product either.

Something like this that you could probably find at your local arts and crafts stores.

Looked to me like 1.07g herb, 0.06g kief.

I always use a coin when sifting my kief. I use a 10c coin (approx the same size as a US quarter) and it certainly ups my yield of kief compared to not using it. The kief ends up a little bit greener instead of golden, but I prefer the higher yield so I can live with some plant matter getting through, since its gonna be going right back on top of some more plant matter

I personally wouldn't worry about any microscopic pieces of metal in there, seems like the sort of thing that would be dwarfed by the background noise of general impurities in the air etc...
I've got nothing against anyone that'd want to avoid them though ;)

VaporEyes, do you have any stats/figures for that info? I'd be interested if you do :)

Nothing more than what I have experienced. I just had some regular coins that were rather new placed in my grinder. Over a couple weeks I noticed them getting a tad worn. This concern is based in fact though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohs_scale_of_mineral_hardness
If you have a coin that is composed of materials with lower hardness than what the screen is constructed of, it will scratch the surface.

I wasn't doubting that the coins could be scratched, just whether the resulting microscopic flakes could be harmful in any meaningful(perhaps significant is a better word here) way.

A good example is that I recall reading a post in a thread somewhere that if you vape at a high enough temp, you can start producing benzene(I think it was benzene, but it doesn't really matter for this example ;)).
Benzene is bad, yes, and it should be avoided, yes, but another poster pointed out that the amount of benzene you'd get at very-high-but-not-combustion temps is equivalent to what you'd get when you smell petrol when filling up your car I.E. a negligible amount.
A real concern based in fact, but not something I'd personally worry about.

I was actually gonna see if I could look up the hardness figures for my grinder and coin, but then I... Couldn't be arsed doin it

It's quite alright. I vape specifically for health and try and factor that in as many ways as I can. If a potential problem can be avoided; why not avoid it? There are some health risk in certain instances that can't be avoided though, and you just got to take them on the chin... that's just life for ya.

I just did it with some very mid mids and it was great , but I woudn't do it with my Kush . Thats just me though.

the mids were still mids . The kief with alot of plant matter was top shelf .

Wouldn't you want all that goodness to stay on your herb? Or is this mainly for folks who smoke kief exclusively?

I can't notice any difference between grinds that have not had kief collected (from my two-piece) and grinds that have had kief harvested (from my four-piece). I therefore view the kief as a bonus. I don't add anything to improve the yield.

If all you're looking for a is a high quantity of kief, a coffee grinder is a godsend. Of course it's going to damage trich heads and powder some plant matter along with it, so it's not top of the line quality, but it vapes.

It works well (IMO), as there actually is a noticeable difference in potency between me just breaking a bit up by hand or small 2pc grinder. But with the flower out of the coffee grinder I can load a couple of stems before the day and maintain a good buzz (for me) and go about business. After the day closer to bed, I just grab the kief jar I scrape the top of the grinder into for a deeper buzz.

I think if I were ever to make oil this is how I would seperate my product. Just use the 'kief' scraped out and save the leftover flowers for cooking/vaping.

I actually get better kief out of my coffee grinder than my 4 piece (with or without a kief coin).
It would obviously vary from grinder to grinder, but the design of mine causes only the best and blondest bits of kief to accumulate in the lid.

Are you using like a mr. coffee electric coffee grinder?

I'll snap a pic of it, its a no-name one I got at the supermarket for $25.
It is electric (I assumed all coffee grinders were?)
