There is one other change that I forgot to mention:
The red hot spot on the hot plate has been eliminated. The drill now is to heat the hot plate for 2 seconds and then start inhaling instead of waiting for a hot spot.
People that are used to the Lotus haven't had a problem with the change. I'm not sure about newbies.
The change was done to decrease the flexing of the hot plate when heated, which can restrict the air flow thru the Lotus, and to increase the hot plate longevity.

Is the older version of the lotus still available? How much $?
There is one 'second' left of the old model with a black vapor cap. It's a 'second' because there are cosmetic scratches under the anodize of the stem. Use SECOND in the coupon box for a 25% discount.

Regarding AV's question; the vapor cap is the same on the new model as the old, maple with a natural stain finish. We've learned how to finish wood better since we started making the Lotus and it really looks nice now, though the pic is tinged a little yellow.

It turns out that the change to the vapor cap had a much larger effect than intended.
It's about impossible to scorch the herb with the new vapor cap. The heating is now pure convection and there's almost no learning curve and no temperature variation from the top to the bottom of the bowl.

awsome i want to get one of these so bad. thinking of getting rid of my iolite and mayby my zap. i'd hate to though since no more will ever be made and i own a piece of vapor history. definatly this is my type of vape though, using very small amounts at a time. unfortunatly i thought a larger bowl with my io was great at first but it turns into a hassle to medicate. my hammer on the other hand is fast and effecient and uses a very small pinch. good job max keep those lotus selling. never know when i might pick one up. just life has so many obstacles tht involve money lol

hey max,

i wrote in to your comments section for info on how "the old cap can be reworked to be like the new cap". i got a reply but you guys didn't address the specific topic.

Also, how about some info and photos on how different the bowl sizes are, or diffrences. I'm a big lotus fan but the lack of information and details on the 'new' lotus is putting me off ordering one.

So guys, a friend of mine wants to get a lotus after my recommendations and I am looking for a good bargain. Any store recommendations where they carry the new model? Any FC coupon applicable?

There are brick and mortar stores in northern CA that carry the Lotus. Other than that it's on line only: Vaporstore.com, EZVapes.com and our website, Lotusvaporizer.com.
We offer a 15% discount for FC members - put FC2 in the coupon box.

Oh my, I just remembered the Lotus. I nearly purchased on years ago when it was brand new, as it looked quite good, but it had no real reviews or user feedback at the time.

Skimming this thread, it sounds like the Lotus works quite well; how does it compare against some of the newer offerings like the Hammer or glass Vaporgenie?

I'm looking for a new portable vape that can hit like a plug-in unit and I'd like it to be as simple/long-lasting a design as possible, something which the Lotus still appears to be.

I don't know why I haven't gotten one of these. They seem pretty awesome.

I know; it looks like possibly the most functional and durable portable convection unit but I never hear about it.

You won't hear about any vape with a learning curve.

Who wants to learn?

Salutations,

I'm looking for a new portable vape that can hit like a plug-in unit...

At least i can tell you my plug-in table vaporizer didn't even compare to my portable in some crucial ways - but not all, of course. I'm looking for the missing link actually, i wonder if by combining our efforts together we wouldn't manage to find it... Possibly right here, why not?... I'd be specially curious to read owner reviews from those who had the opportunity to evaluate both the Lotus and the VaporGenie, their Classic model is possible (since that's what i got!)...

Well the Vaporgenie and MFLB have huge followings, but they also have savvy marketing so who knows.

The Lotus looks great however so I'd be interested in hearing how the new model with the thicker heat panel functions; if it still allows control of the heat up to point of combustion I may just order one. Full extraction of cannabinoids is a must for me.

The Glass Genie if I am not mistaken is almost the same with the wooden genies... Same shity afterburn taste whether it was butane or hempwick. The hammer as far as I have read hits like a hammer but to my eyes it's just too complicated. I would rather buy another Lotus any day, now with the new and very important changes that Max made! Simple, robust, great tasting, easy to clean, easy to carry, hits like a train and the list goes on! I wish I could afford another one. I miss my old pal... I really believe it's the best non electric convection design out there! My golden triad so far would be the Pod, the INH and the Lotus and all bases would be covered! With some help from a vapor lung for those party days... lol

Unpleasant aroma/taste interference doesn't correpond to how i'd think of my VG, perhaps because i took great care not to ever allow contact with a flame by adding some extension PVC tubing to provide direct eye contact... I did though experience what appeared to be intolerance to contaminants, without being able to determine if that was butane-related or otherwise. Yet, i considered The Hammer because of this mishap but that would be dry cannabic vapour so if i must moisturize anyway then the Lotus Combination Pipe and Water Pipe Adapter Kit makes more sense to me. At that point anything that is quick like a VG should attract my attention, it just needs to use solid materials since i don't like the idea of having hot glass exposed. A blue flame being more reliable this feature would plead in favor of the Lotus too. I guess what i need to read is about how this fine concept compares with "Flash Vaporisation" (which is new on my radar).

The thing with VG is that the flame and everything that sets on the ceramic are in the air-path and you sure as hell inhaling stuff you shouldn't... The VG always fucked up my throat and the taste was bad even with hemp wick. Torches were a bit better but the taste of the Lotus is on a different level IMO. No butane taste and much faster vapor production than the VG. The new version could be even faster as far as I can tell from the changes. The FlashVape S2 plays on a different league but of course the same goes size wise! All these will be better through water as always... ;)

Hi again Natural Farmer,

...the flame and everything that sets on the ceramic are in the air-path...

Indeed, that's going to end up in the cannabic channel and hence i took extensive care not to ever allow such contact to occur as it would most likely ruin that VG session for me.

...much faster vapor production than the VG.

Interesting, i didn't suspect as much from my preliminary readings. One inhalation is performed in 8 - 12 seconds using my 3rd modded version of the VG, taste/aroma seem depleted after my second toke usually.

I'll have to search YouTube soon...

...better through water as always...

I don't experience aroma/taste issues using my VG and it provides me with moiturized cannabic vapour anywhere i choose to be and without any extra parts to carry, drop and shatter... As a matter of fact i consider it's quite fit for sampling but i'm opened to suggestions because the allergies episode sent my VG back to Plan-B status and now i'm looking for a Plan-A that can at least equal aroma/taste if not portable moisturization!

You feedback in these matters and beyond could help me decide where to go next.

Hi Egzoset,
I think that the taste of your tokes gets depleted after the second toke because the terpenes that cause smell/flavor boil off at a lower temp than THC and CBD. You are getting different chemicals each time you toke.

You're not going to get a moisturized vapor from either the VG or Lotus unless you can run the vapor through water with a water pipe adapter. Even with uncured bud the water vapor in the bud would boil off before the cannabanoids that you are looking for.

You won't get any butane fumes with the Lotus, so if your allergy is to butane and its trace chemicals, the Lotus should help you.
BTW, the new model Lotus has a bowl that's much deeper than the original so you should get bigger tokes from it than from the original.
Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.
