The Herbalizer

Maybe this has been asked before, but can you use the whip without the fan assist?
Good question. The answer is yes! I don't know what some companies were thinking making vapes that require you to use forced air in whip mode. :uhh:

I've been bugging Josh to post a more hardware/software oriented article on their blog. I hope this is the first of many. http://www.herbalizer.com/powerful-precise/

Stu was right that you do need to log into facebook to enter the contest on their site. Might be worth creating a secondary account to enter if you're apprehensive about using your primary -- the odds look pretty good at the moment and I really hope an fc member wins the unit.

I was lucky enough to spend my 4/20 playing with the Herbalizer beta prototype along with Slightly Medicated. It is indeed very powerful yet precise. This combination provides a unique vaporizing experience.

We sampled a wide variety of different herbs (I should've written down all the different stuff we vaped, but I enjoyed everything from coffee, to eucalyptus to stuff I've never heard of). Peppermint was really refreshing and was probably my favorite.

Of course the first thing we did was to rig that sucker up for vaporbonging.:brow: Here's a video I shot with my iphone last night. Enjoy.

I'll post more about my experiences with the Herbalizer soon, but I wanted people to get a quick sneak peek of the unit's capabilities.
:peace:

Edit: That's SliM taking the hit, not me. I don't have skills like he does.

My favorite part of that article was when they said "because sometimes breathing all by yourself is just too much work". You mean to tell me its an iron lung too?
This thing sells itself. That fan assist looks like no gimmick.

Hey Stu, what's the load size?
I didn't have a scale with me, so I couldn't accurately measure the bowl size. From eyeballing it, I'd say the max load (unpacked) is about .3g but I was able to get good hits from a micro load (<.1g) as well.

Hey Stu, what vaporizer would you compare the vapor output to? Kinda looks to outperform most or all?

don't forget that was slim hitting it on what I'm sure was just below a combustion temp!

Sorry, should have recognized the lung capacity . . . :) Any pricing yet? I want one of these and an apothecary of medicinal herbs to go with it.
The pricing is set but I will let them announce it. The Herbalizer doesn't just do lip service to aromatherapy as most other vaporizers do. I think you will be pleased at the aromatherapy options that the unit provides.

Hey Stu, what vaporizer would you compare the vapor output to? Kinda looks to outperform most or all?
The vapor can be as dense at higher temperatures as any other model I've tried. The heating element gets so hot so fast, that not many vapes can really compare. It was interesting to watch it blow up a bag with super thick vapor (much more dense vapor than the 'cano to be sure).

don't forget that was slim hitting it on what I'm sure was just below a combustion temp!
Yes, this is a good point. The temp was set to 420°F for that hit. However I've been told that combustion is not possible with the Herbalizer.

Damn SliM is crazy...
We prefer to think of him as "exquisitely unique". ;)

Stu, your vid has me salivating over a vape for the first time in a long time. It's also the first vape to get me interested in vaping other types of herbs.

Yup... this one is on my radar for sure.

I've been looking into this and I'm seeing a sharp rise in interest with vapourizing materials other than cannabis, and mostly not for psychoactive effects. Vapourizing as a concept is starting to take off. A lot of people are looking for alternative medical treatments, and although this is a quasi-legal area (the FDA has to approve medical claims) it's a much easier market to enter. It looks like an alternative market is there for the taking by devices that have temperature control with sufficient range. Devices that start their range too high, or those with fixed temperatures or no temperature control at all will be at a disadvantage. I don't know if they're pursuing that direction, but I can easily see the Herbalizer showing up in health food stores and even drugstores.

I'm most interested in a third alternative: flavour.

To give you an idea of all the different materials that we were testing, here is a picture I took of some of the ABV that we were generating.

I have lots to write... but i am letting it ruminate in my head for awhile.

I really enjoyed the experience. Seeing the device in action really drives home the point that this is an evolution in the technology. From my experience there is not a device on the market that can deliver the same precise control. The result of that control a device can provide an amazing experience for a wide variety of users needs. It worked for me on a level that greatly surpassed my expectations... which were cautiously optimistic in the first place. I was honestly sad to not have an Herbalizer to come home to, and can't wait for this device to go into production.

We tried a wide variety of herbs... That picture Stu just posted has lots of stuff there. Mugwort, Damiana, Lavender, Juniper Berries, Mint, Eucalyptus, Coffee, Camphor, and more.

really? not even the Cloud? or the ViVape? or the MiniVap? or the Volcano? +/- 5°F doesn't seem that precise to me.

Yeah, I have a problem with that statement especially since the vaporizer they are following off of with the halogen light heater, the Aromed, is precise in temperature, and not +/-5f. The volcano classic has the same accuracy of the herbalizer, while the digital has +/-2f so I don't see how this is much better in that area. I also feel a little cautious about the whip being so close to the heater, with nothing to cool the vapor down to make sure nothing effects the whip to cause Outgassing. It seems they are doing what the Aromed owners are doing with the belief in using different herbs as medicine, and not necessarily for recreational cannabis use, but with more style, and catering to things people are used to in other vaporizers like a fan, and small. I just wish they wouldn't make it seem like no one else is doing this, when this has been going on for YEARS. If you go to the Aromed site, they have temperatures for you to vape a whole bunch of herbs at. They even tell you what herbs you can use for whatever your problem is.

I still like it, but I don't know if everything is really true with what their saying. Why would you spend $1,000,000 on a vaporizer that isn't really precise in temperature, and nothing to keep the whip cool so no type of harm can be done, and the whole premise is for using herbs as medicine. That is a lot of money for a "regular" vaporizer. I don't know, but if the price is good, I want to look more into it.

Im interested in what the bowl was like. Was there a screen? Airpath aside from the silicone tube?

 I think you added too many 0's there sir. How could you even think it could cost that much? Also how do you know how close the whip is to the heating element, plus that looks like a silicone whip to me, that's good up to about 250 C.

They claim they spent $1,000,000 dollars in Engineering. I don't understand why they spent so much money on something that isn't really groundbreaking. Don't get me wrong, the ultra fast start up is crazy, but that is really the only thing that separates it from other vaporizers.

If you look at the video you can see the heater is right under the bowl, which the whip attaches to. Even though silicone can handle that much heat, I just feel anything can go wrong, so why not have something to keep the air as cool as possible before it gets to the whip, if you are doing this for medical users who may have a sensitive system, and anything can set it off in a wrong way. I'm not putting them down, just stating some things I noticed.

:peace:

If it goes higher than 420F isnt combustion a possibility. Not total combustion, but wouldnt it still be possible to combust some of the active materials in whatever substance your using? I always thought if your abv was dark to black then your most likely getting some combustion and some of the abv in that picture looks near or close to combustion results...

luchiano...I don't agree with your assessment of the whip/heater placement. This whip is no closer to the herb than using a SSV whip/wand system. I don't care how hot the heating element needs to get as long as the air traveling over my herbs is at the right temp, and from there they all go straight into a whip.

as best I can tell, the temp control difference is all about sensor placement and having a system robust enough to change the algorithm quickly enough to maintain the desired temp. your (luchiano) explanation of how the aromed achieves this was very helpful...thanks!

I couldn't tell you where the temp sensors are in the volcano, but I know Arizer spent the better part of a year tweaking Extreme production units to get their sensor placement where they liked it.
