Question: What kind I packaging will the Ascent be shipped in? I'm perfectly aware that this is entirely legal, but I live in an apartment complex and if UPS/FEDEX decides to drop it off at the clubhouse because I'm not home, I don't want any one suspicious about what goes down in NiScRo's apartment.

Unless they've changed up their methods, Organicix ship in plain white tyvek pouches, not brown paper.

There is one thing I dislike about both Davinci's designs is the conductor is ALWAYS ON and below the vaping material. When you vape you must stay focused on the task at hand. Better not to be medicated when using a Davinci should you forget and put it down while the conductor below slowly bakes and toasts all the goodness out of your cache. I believe a heat on demand set-up may be superior and a material saver.

This is a design/vaping style issue. Constant heat or the ability to stop and start heat at will. Davinci is putting out excellent vape technology. I love mine except when I forget and waste a load. :\
I agree. Not necessarily forgetting that I'm vaping, but more so that I could take a couple hits, put it in my pocket and than take a couple more hits a lil later. I know the heat up process most likely would be the main issue with this, but something similar to an e cig type of deal where you can press a button, take a hit and put it away would be great. Still buying the ascent none the less. :)

That would be called a MFLB or a FV
I'm not denying that there are products like that out there, just none with the quality/ cleanliness of vapor production that the ascent seems to have as well as the compactability... If the ascent were to have that capability it would be unmatched.

Edit: than again that's just my opinion :)

I agree but since I don't know electronics I don't know if it is possible hence why nobody has done it. Look at the size of the FV and it supposed to work a bit better then the MFLB...no comment paka:D . There must be a reason nobody has done it all but with improves on tiny circuits I am fairly sure we will see something like that in the next few years and I am first in line. Maybe this is DV's first step to doing that.

They did comment way back in the thread to do that there has to be more conduction so that might be the issue. No instant on with convection leaning.

Is that a joke joe. The cera is a seriously heavy vape and it isn't instant on or off for herb just oils. Ascent is giving us hopefully a heat up time around 45 seconds. I asked lol cause that is my time tolerance. I don't think the accent will be heavy or at least I hope not. Now I am trying to remember if the weight was even mentioned. I hope it isn't as heavy as the DV. I like stuff light but built well. That can be a hard combo. I would feel comfy at 5 ounces or less. Not that I have a choice:rofl:

Well, the shipping weight is 1 pound, and that includes the box, charger, accessories, etc.

EDIT (Found the following speculation and statement)
-------------------

Speculation:
After thinking about it, I'm guessing that the Ascent is designed around 2 Panasonic IMR Hybrid High Drain 18650 2250mAH Li-Ion batteries......The batteries are about 2.55 inches (65 mm) tall and two of them would weigh about 3 ounces (80 grams). .....(but probably slightly heavier) than an iPhone. I say slightly heavier because I'm guessing that the heating element and glass will weigh over an ounce (I don't think I need to say how many g to you stoners).

Your pretty close on the battery specs, I'm waiting on the exact specs from our tech department before officially answering.
Regarding the Iphone size, its slightly shorter than an Iphone, but thicker and of course heavier. We decided to cast an aluminum body for the unit, so it lending to the weight, not the mention the glass and 2 batteries. It doesn't feel too heavy in the hand though. About equal to the DaVinci in weight.

SECOND EDIT (to avoid back-to-back posts)

Problem Solved:

This is actually what we had in mind when building this function in. Within the OLED interface, you will be able to set preset temperature ranges. This serves not only for medicating usage, but also for power conservation. Say for example, you want to heater to run at 360 for 2 mins, but then have a habit of putting the vape down for 2 mins...but don't want to wait for it to heat all the way up, you would set temp 2 to 200 for 2 mins.

So yes, you will be able to go to your control panel and just press on for your desired preset program.

The DV is heavy. That is what a light laptop weighs. I don't want to carry that in my pocket. Under 5 and 4 is better but it is done at this point so we will have to wait for the specs.

Oh you two big burly guys who wear a belt so your pants don't fall:D. I just like lighter.

Like I have always said I like the look of the pax, feel and weight but not my thing. I was happy with my choice to get the INH at that time. I just hope this ascent is light. See you care too.

Ya the guy that wanted to pull out a Vape hit it a couple of times put in the pocket and repeat a few tomes would be the MF lb or the vapor genie. They both take some practice and time to get the technic down but when u figure out the VG it hits like a champ but its not really discrete

I went searching for a few facts, and wound up going through the whole thread again. Since I was doing that, I thought I'd just summarize everything I found.

Bluemonkey made a similar list on Page 29, but I found some stuff that was missed there, and of course there is newer info that wasn't there. Bluemonkey's post is here:
thought I'd do a summary, and found some impressive features i missed,
this has serious potential,

Here's what I found. It is almost all words from the DaVinci rep with comments from me (in parens). Please let me know if I missed something or something is incorrect or needs updating.

========================================================

The company is Organicix, LLC and the brands are Karma and DaVinci-. Ascent is a model

Price: 249$
Available: A "few" weeks from March 31st.
We will be selling it on the website as soon as I get them and the rest will go to distribution

Included:
  • Ascent unit
  • 2 batteries
  • a wall charger
  • 2 glass mouthpieces
  • 2 glass internal components
  • 2 glass oil jars
  • a cute little carrying satchel
  • a top mouthpiece cover
  • a little tool/poker
General:
  • ability to vaporize both herbs and oils
  • glass oil cartridges that will fit in the unit (needs to be upright for oil)
  • Dual mouthpiece
  • GoG adapter in progress (designed by FC member Adobewan)
Airpath:
  • Glass on glass
  • there is another internal glass sleeve inside the unit (has the screen on its end). So, when the glass straw is extended, it is still inside another glass sleeve
  • Pyrex Stem and screen replaceable (ships with spares)
  • hugged by a silicone sleeve (prevents both breakage and stem slipping out)
  • can completely remove the stem and screen for cleaning
  • Glass screen -- can add second screen (presume a metal screen??)
  • (Glass stem manually extracted)
Bowl/Base:
  • the bowl is glass lined ceramic
  • Bowl NOT removable
  • oven works similar to the Davinci, in a conduction convection fashion, but with a faster heat up time
  • Heat up time is around 45 seconds, and it will heat to 405F
  • The chamber is about 30% bigger than that of the DV, so about 1.3g (confirmed?)
  • bottom of the vape swivels out to expose the bowl and makes it easy to pack/clean
  • Mostly Convection based (MOds will point out that *this* is not the place for the "convection vs. conduction discussion" : )
  • new type of insulation that really holds in the heat
  • Heating element in bottom
Power/Battery:
  • 4 hour battery life- this unit contains 2 rechargeable REMOVABLE lithium ion batteries.
  • Batteries charge in place
  • (SPECULATION: 2 Panasonic IMR Hybrid High Drain 18650 2250mAH Li-Ion batteries)
  • The current DaVinci car charger does indeed work with the Ascent.
  • No USB charging
Display/Interface:
  • OLED display
  • Reads out to Fahrenheit or Celsius
  • digital temperature control
  • function that allows the user to adjust the setting of vaporizer temperature automatically. For example, you set it to stay at 360 for 3 mins, go up to 375 for 2 mins and then to 380 for 2 mins (complex programable temp patterns)
  • the temperature is completely variable and you can set it to 100C if you'd like
  • 2 power button- a master in the mouthpiece and then the temperature button on the screen
Body/Models:
  • The finish is a brushed aluminum cast body all around.
  • wood model will use a high tech printing/brushed aluminum with a thin water based printing on the aluminum
  • the black one is simply matte black aluminum.
  • silver aluminum & (real?) croc skin
Grill:
  • grill is 304 stainless
  • hides a little master power button (So, this is in addition to the button in the mouthpiece? Or is this old info?)
Dimmensions:
  • 4.47" (119.36mm) tall, 2.24" (56.85mm) across and 1.03" (26.04mm) wide.
  • About equal to the DaVinci in weight
International:
  • We will ship to Europe, as all of our products are 110-240v and will likely have these in our EU distributors hands a month or so after our US release. I know not all vaporizer companies do this..but I like to wait to have our CE certification before entering the market.
  • Avail in SA June/July
Future possibilities:
  • Customization will be coming 3rd quarter
  • customized mouthpieces, preferably hand blow
  • steampunk designs and allowing the user to see the vapor trail through the unit
  • (a "surprise" for the grill is coming in the future.)

EDIT:

Hey Nigel, Thanks for that post. A lot of great information!

So, did they confirm that the bowl size is going to be 1.3g?

Hey Nigel, Thanks for that post. A lot of great information!

So, did they confirm that the bowl size is going to be 1.3g?

No worries, mate. I also figured, with the product release being "soon" that this thread is most likely to have a lot of fresh faces, asking the same questions that have been asked many times, so all of the info in one place might save some of that. ("An act of sheerest optimism to have posed the question[answers] in the first place." -M.Python)

They did say that needed to be confirmed, but the size was mentioned twice in different post, so I take that as a "Sorta". ;)
I'll amend my post.

4 hour battery life- this unit contains 2 rechargeable REMOVABLE lithium ion batteries.

Non-removable batteries? That is almost a deal-breaker :/
Come on, it's 2013!

Almost all mobile phones these days come with removable batteries and don't have a SIM-lock anymore. This is the reason why Samsung & Android ate up a huge portion of Apple's share in the market in very little time. (This is not an invitation for Apple / Samsung fanboys to start ruining this thread, I just used it as an example.)

I will gladly dish out $300 or more for an Ascent, if that means that I won't have to bother buying a new vaporizer any time soon. If the battery dies on me within a couple of weeks or simply dies after 1-2 years (this has happened too often to me with laptop/phone batteries), sending it all the way back to the US from the UK is NOT an option. Think about the ridiculous shipping & customs fees. Having it send back and forth will likely amount up to another $100+. Then there's also the question of whether or not Davinci will honour the warranty. This is the main reason why I haven't bought a Pax. With the Arizer Solo at least there are instructions in these forums on how to replace the battery.

Sorry if this comes across whining, but unfortunately this is something you have to think about living outside of the US.

Wouldn't it be an option to manufacture two different versions? One with non-removable batteries and full warranty for US customers and one with removable batteries and no warranty for everyone else.
Or at least manufacture them in such a way, that it isn't totally impossible to remove the batteries without destroying the device entirely.

Edit: How about we start a wiki article in the Vaporpedia for the Ascent? I'm sure by the time it's out, nobody will want to dig through the 100+ pages of this thread to get all the basic info.
