Any knife nuts here at FC?

I've got a few Sebenzas. They are expensive, but not rare by any means. The Sebenza is a fantastic knife. They are great if you want a production knife with the tightest tolerances and best fit & finish in the game. The problem I have with the Sebenza is the "soft" heat treat that they do on their blade steel. They use a great steel, but run it too soft for the user to truly appreciate what it can do. If you want something similar to the Sebenza you can look into the Pro Tech manual TR3. Spyderco makes a model called the Sage 2 that is a tribute to the Sebenza. Zero Tolerance produces the 0550 and the 0560. These are fantastic knives and can be seen in the last picture in my string of pictures on the first page. Please note that the blades in that picture have been reground to a thin high hollow grind.

Thanks! It's been a while since I last looked for a Sebenza - there are many more choices available now. I'll check out your recommendations, thanks again

No problem. If your heart is set on a Sebenza then contact me, I can steer you in the right direction.

Deadshort480,
I'm in the market for a folder every-day carrier. I've heard a lot of great things about Chris Reeve Sebenza's but they are pretty rare and expensive - are they worth it or can I get basically the same quality for less elsewhere (I know there are a lot of knife manufacturers out there, haven't done a lot of research)
You can get any number of knives that look like a Chris Reeve piece and function well for daily use...but will never be a Chris Reeve. Kinda like a photocopy of the Mona Lisa, looks just like the original.....but it's not. IMHO the Sebenza's are worth the price tag. It's hard to explain, but when you hold one, you'll understand. His stuff is made to be used, the fact that they are beautiful is just a bonus.
If you're looking for a quality knife to use every day check out Spiderco,Benchmade,Boker...lots of good blades out there that won't break the bank. Case in point,I just bought a Ken Onion designed Kershaw at Wally World for 40 bucks. It's a lot of knife for not a lot of money.
When shopping for a knife please, please stay away from cheap swap meet knock offs. Yeah it only costs 5 bucks, because it's only worth 5 bucks. You can't judge quality from a photo so shop around a bit...handle everything you can and pick the one that fits your needs and price range. Local gun shops, sporting good stores, hardware stores are good places to find the knife you want. Plus you can actually hold the thing. You'll know a good one when you handle the piece, something you can't do when mail ordering.
Oh shit, almost forgot the best place to find what you want...gun shows. Go to every one in your area. Sometimes you can find a real gem among the Chinese crap. Believe it or not but Wal-Mart has some pretty damn good knives.
Or you could go the other way and buy a custom that costs more than your car. Knives are likes vapes, once you get a good one you can't help but want another and another and another......

Thank you Deadshort for starting this .

Definitely enhanced the stone from reading this.

Similar to the Bourbon and whiskey thread.

Envious of all your pretty knives.

To make you own knife from scratch would be pretty badass.

Need this to match the Yanagi

Honyaki - pure steel, not mixed with softer or cheap steel whatsoever.

Sweeeeeeeeet.

I wish I could have even decent knives in the kitchen. My wife just leaves them in the sink or puts them in the dishwasher. I've learned my lesson. I have to depend on shitty knives in the kitchen, but I keep the edges tight.

Wursof (spelling sucks) is a decent German chef knife that can be abused but still hold decent edges.

I've got a few from KAI's Shun line. Nothing too fancy, but they get the job done.

I like the scale release on those Volcans. The hidden auto release is my favorite type of auto. I like either being able to manually or automatically open the knife.

Love me some Spydercos.

At one point in my collecting I said to myself that I would never spend more than $300 on a knife. I have a new custom coming in that should be in my hands by the end of April.... at $1200. Me telling myself things never works out so well.

Most of my money recently is going to limited run production knives, however there are some customs I would really love to own just can't justify yet. An overkill and hinderer are two of the big ones for me but I think my first custom will be one of these, or one of his similar varients.

I'm just still in shock that my two favorite hobbies just collided here, I'm not use to seeing knife nuts or vape enthusiasts outside of their specific forums :p

Ray Laconico makes some killer folders. That's a Jasmine flipper, right? My buddy carries a Laconico Slim. The Overkill is in my pocket almost every day, but I do switch it up from time to time. I used to have a few Hinderer XM-18s, but I sold all, but my one Gen. 1. I was actually at a knife collectors meeting today in Jersey. I'm all over the major knife forums, but go under a different name.

I didn't know there would be this many folks here at FC that were into knives, but it is such a pleasant surprise. I guess when one is into the latest in vapor technology that they can also hold an appreciation for something as simple and elegant as a good knife. I love being able to talk about my favorite things at the same time. :D

Has anyone mentioned how they use their knives during their sessions? A have a Swiss Army Card that comes in handy so many ways. Forgot your grinder? Scissors. Need a stirring tool or scraper? The nail file or blade works like a charm. I've used the tweezers to pick out small pieces of stem. I've used the blunt end of the nailfile to tamp down the the load in my Pax oven. I've used the pin to load dabs into my TV Revolution. Speaking of which, did you know that if you have a SAK with a corkscrew there is a tiny hole visible in the handle when you fold out the corkscrew that you can fit a single flat head pin into? Anyway, the Swiss Army Card can be a vapor enthusiast's best friend as a tool.

Yeah that is a jasmine flipper, I love how simple they are.

I think I have seen you on bladeforums, your picture with your rj knives in a circle looks familiar :p

I have a sak classic that is always with my vape stuff that I use to stir and get abv our of my underdog stems/inhalater capsules. Other than that I just fondle the rest :p

That's me. I love my RJ's. That's what I'm expecting by the end of April. A pearl inlaid Overkill with Intrepid pattern Damascus blade and pocket clip. It will round out my Pearl Q-36 trifecta.

Hey Admiral, nice collection. Is that Spyderco a Chaparral? I wanted one, but ended up with a Sage instead. If you're looking for something new, my recommendations are always pretty much the same. Spyderco ParaMilitary 2 or Gayle Bradley. Kershaw Blur. Zero Tolerance 0550. You cannot go wrong with any of them. Also, check out kershawguy's sales thread for Blem Kershaws in the Dealers section. He always has great Kershaws and ZT's at a fraction of the original cost.

I love that little thin mini benchmade! Axis locks are a pleasure. I have way to many benchmade's and spyderdo, ckrt's, and kershaws. I rock that in my jeans a lot, but lately for work all I need is a leatherman skeletool http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XU43IC/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 in carbon fiber. Also for edc (every day cary) this is my go to: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RXMWJ6/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm so glad we have a knife thread! SOG is my next go to folder.

Yes that is a chaparral, awesome little knife. I got me and my father one and both came a little stiff out of the box but with a little tweaking it's perfect.
Most of those are on my consideration list, too bad pm2's are so hard to find or I would have probably already jumped on one.

That blue 530 is probably my favorite knife, and I didn't expect it to be. It pockets so well and flies open. I'm starting to realize that I lean towards smaller knives.
