Magic Flight got back with me about the warranty question, but I completely forgot to post it here!

I asked them exactly how the warranty works, and that some people believe they give a maple LB replacement for all warranty claims. They said that is not the case. The warranty covers the same box you purchased. Maple for maple, cherry for cherry, etc.

So, now that mystery is solved. :)

Thanks, Vicki. That doesn't square with what they told me, or what's posted on the web. I wonder how they'll handle Koa, Fiddleback and the others? And I assume it's only the wood that is matched, that is model changes and upgrades are not optional.

Well I'm not really supposed to tell you but MF has roughly 3 exact copies of every exotic wooden box they've made cryogenically frozen in an undisclosed location. You have to tune in to a specific number station and do some logistics to find a dead-drop package which contains coordinates to the real map.

Pretty sure MF already dispatched their quick-kill team. I wonder how much farther I can get away with this, last I heard they were just abo

I'm just kidding :D

(about the kill-team, anyways. It's cold in the cryo building  )

I don't know what to say. I quoted Tina Marie verbatim when I said, "The warranty covers the same box you purchased. Maple for maple, cherry for cherry, etc."

They only have one model, with different wood types. What upgrades are you referring to?

My understanding is there's the regular boxes, the "premium" wooden boxes like the cherry, walnut, etc, and then there's the "exotic" koa/etc. The three tiers if you will, that's how I see it anyways. Your warranty should theoretically be lined up with the tiers, such that if you have a T2 walnut, the warranty will get you another walnut and not a T1 standard-kit box.

They do only have one model of the LB, with the incremental upgrades (click-top, color of screen, etc). I think it's a bit much to ask MF to replace your 2 year old koa without the latch, for a new one with the old screen color (not that color matters anyways) that's NOT utilizing the ball. I don't know how disruptive to the creation process it is, I would assume that it's as streamlined as possible and holding up the line for a singular special order on something that hasn't been done for some time now might be asking a bit too much??

Then again, they've always gone above and beyond with me, so perhaps I'm wrong... I should probably put MY box away for a little bit... "should."

It is my understanding that it goes likes this:

Regular maple
Exotic cherry and walnut (available all the time, X is before the serial number on back of LB)
Limited Edition (LE is before serial number on back of LB) koa, etc.

Vicki,
Besides Cherry and Walnut. What are the exotic versions? Koa is the only other one I've heard of. Wish I knew about these before I bought the walnut one... would have bought an exotic

Understood that's their intention. The warranty a "Functional Warranty":
http://www.magic-flight.com/warranty.php

My understanding of this stuff says that means they guaranty you a box that works, not necessarily the same model. I was told as much when I asked if they'd have a walnut box to replace mine with, that may have changed but the official warranty does not reflect that.

There have been at least 3 light upgrades, boxes with and without o-rings and latches as I said before. At least four major models (original, with lamp, then with ring and lamp, then with latch). Now we have fancy covers. I don't think they ever intended to replace 'the same box you purchased'?

That would be my point exactly. They no doubt intend to replace as best they can, but guarantying years down the road they'll have a cherry box with that exact fancy lid for you I don't think they do.

I agree, they're a great outfit with top notch service (and a fair bit of my money....), but intents, promises and guaranties are all different. Fine distinctions in the abstract, but very important when push comes to shove.

Besides Cherry and Walnut. What are the exotic versions? Koa is the only other one I've heard of. Wish I knew about these before I bought the walnut one... would have bought an exotic

When I got mine there were 3 grades of Maple, Koa, Walnut and at least one other. I had a tough time picking and almost bought the Fiddleback Maple later on (kind of wish I had). Those were limited production, then again, the Walnut and Cherry now offered could well go that way if demand falls off?

AFAIK the current site lists all available. In the day you contacted them and they sent you a list of what was available.

Hahah hilarious!
Dude you were wrong just face up to it,

Your understanding was wrong, deal with it.
Think of this as a lesson, Next time you should pay more attention to other peoples opinions, ( not their message count)
Never be foolish enough to assume you know more
and you should certainly not dismiss others imput as guess work! Namely mine!!

Let this be a testament to the fact that message count has absolutely no relationship with the quality of information

Little disappointed with my 'almost' new LB...not because it doesn't do the trick :mmmm: but because the screen is tearing along the heating elements. Anyone experiencing the same issue? Mine is only couple of months old....and no, I'm not overheating it...I think.

That shouldn't be happening :( good news is that's 100% covered by their warranty. Send them an email!

Neither of my two boxes have had that happen. Of course, I kinda pulled the screen outta one and rendered it useless, so it never had the chance to get there...

Hi Quetzalcoatl, thanks for your reply. Sorry about quality photo...but I took it with my phone and it's hard to focus.
The screen is not coming away but it's tearing along both metal heating elements. My worry is that the heat will not travel to the bottom of the trench and not heat up my herb.
Wanted to hear if it's just my unit or if it's a normal wear/tear case before contacting them for a replacement.

@SeriouslyHigh- the area where the screen covers the rails on my LB seems similar to yours but i think mine has a few years on you. If i had to guess, i notice some light marks right below the rails on the screen and it shows that you might been a bit too rough while brushing the trench of your MFLB. only light brushing is needed and is purely for aesthetic reasons.

I've been SOOOO delicate while using the supplied brush to clean it that you have no idea! The whole screen looks very fragile to me and never applied too much pressure. And I've only brushed it twice!
My first vape...still learning my ways around.

Yes that happened to my first box too, I had it for about eight months and it started to tear along the same place. I'm on OZ and bought my box off an Aussie supplier, but they replaced it for me. The new one is nine months old and still seems ok, I bought another one as back up if something happens to the current one, don't want to be without one.

LOL...there are other ones on the market, even in OZ, and some are even better!

That's actually not how the LB works. The rods are simple electrical conductors, there are no "heating elements" in the normal sense, the screen itself gets hot because of the current through it, like overheated wiring (but of course planned). The heat is generated all along the surface (it doesn't "travel down" anywhere) and actually 'collects' near the floor of the trench by design.

What can happen is the spot weld for each tiny strand can break at the rods from mechanical stresses. Usually that's the owner being a little aggressive going after the resin deposits that tend to collect on the (cooler) rails. The general advice is to leave that alone. It tends to stabilize on it's own at a reasonable level most find.

Not everyone cops to that of course, and there could well be other reasons (this is uncommon but not rare?). The welds have to be there. If, after redoubled effort to not disturb it, the breaks continue you'll have no choice but to send it in. However, if it has so few actual breaks that it functions well and doesn't degrade more there's no reason not to vape on.

Good luck.

Hey OF...thanks for your lengthy explanation and I'm very glad to hear my LB will still do the job. After reading your post I've decided to keep it as is and if it gets worst will send it in for a replacement.
I can guaranty I didn't mechanically stress the screen: as you can see the unit is pretty new and I don't use it a lot.
Besides, I may retire it soon since 'thanks' to the forum I've discovered and read good reports about the FV and I'm thinking to upgrade my unit to something that gives a bit more of a kick...and the FV sounds all too good.
cheers

You're very welcome, glad to help. I hope the little rascal hangs in there for you, if not MF will back you up.

I'm not 100% sure I agree with the last part. I really like my FV, more so now that there's the S2 to play with, but it's not a MFLB. Personally, the box really is magic in a way. It's a great tool for what it does, is fun, easy and satisfying to use (in many cases). Mine still get visits from time to time for more relaxed sessions. I have several MFLBs but don't expect to get more than this one MFLB.

"Don't sell the box short".

Best regards,

@OF ... don't get me wrong! I'm loving the little box!! It's probably the good CHI of those guys who make them or what's written on it. All I was saying to the Aussie fellow is that I was finding amusing having a LB as a backup for a LB. That's all.

Great news. Ya kinda scared me with that retirement talk.....don't want you doing anything rash now do we?

BTW, I assume you're going to also get the S2 kit for your FV? Just got mine, but it seems to make it a whole different vape, easier to control....at least for me.

Good luck.

LOL, not planning to retire the cute wooden box! How could you enjoy a movie at the cinema without the LB!
Watching Wim Wenders' Million Dollar Hotel and puffing away....can't get any better!

I've read about the S2 package for the FV, does it really make such a difference? Huge clouds?
