Hey guys a friend of mine got a cheap nail off e-bay , i heard that you can check the involvement of toxic alloys with a magnet.. If it sticks to it then it has them.. (well his sticks too) ... Do you think that is a legit test or all Ti-nails stick to the magnet ?

or all Ti-nails stick to the magnet ?

Just checked all my ti, two nails and a skillet, no stick to a magnet. Even the cheap adjustable nail from ebay, stamped with the infamous 'made in Usa' on bottom, had no stick.

Ti doesn't stick to a magnet. Is it adjustable? I've seen adjustables sold as having a Ti head but a steel shaft.

While I would chunk any TI nail that is magnetic, my suspiciously cheap ebay nail does not stick to a magnet.

It was like a $30 adjustable 14mm ebay nail and it has oxidized so badly it has very poor heat retention. Figure I'll just go for some quartz...

I have found that I real" wanted to get one of these quartz honey pots from mothership... But they are all sold out... At least here... Anyone know where to get one ?
There's been talk of the "David goldstein quartz concentrate bowl" thats only like $30-40 from NVS Glassworks (who apparently ships). Might be worth looking into that.

I'm looking at getting the boro glass syndicate cup nail from aqualab but I'm not sure if I want a cup that deep, although it is not the deepest I've seen. Does anyone have any experience with these nails? What type of nails do my fellow fc members prefer. Flat or cup shaped nails?

I feel like oil tends to puddle in the center of cup shaped nails and not burn off all the way. I know that smaller dabs, hotter nail, and not dropping the whole dab at once will help. I'm not looking for tips. I just want to know what shape people prefer whether it be glass, quartz, ti, whatever.

Here's the link: http://aqualabtechnologies.com/conc...ro-syndicate-short-cup-quartz-nail-14-mm.html

BTW I'm ordering other things, not just a nail. I know they can be found elsewhere for probably cheaper.

If you look at the additional pictures on ALT, there's one that shows the thickness of the cup.
Looks thick!

Thicker quartz means more heat retention.

I've eyed boro syndicate cup quartz nails before, definitely would recommend.
(Only thing that seems a bit off to me is the quartz "nub" it rests on...hope there's enough airflow)

Yup that's it Farscaper

Think I am gonna have to add the NVS quartz dome less on the wish list  I like the idea of ditching the Ti nail

I'm getting rid of my ti nail as we speak hahah. Going to quartz/glass only.

So I'm rethinking that boro syndicate nail. I just found this on ebay for $12 with free shipping, it looks surprisingly nice: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-14MM-QUARTZ-GLASS-NAILS-LAB-CHEMISTRY-HEATING-CATALYST-BEEKERS-TEST-TUBES-/321059326532?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ac0a08a44

I use the boro syndicate flat quartz nail both in 14 and 19mm. I think flat has a better flavor than the cup. I would buy one for sure. Best tasting nails i have. The 14mm is the perfect nail. The 19mm is a bit big for me so it takes forever to heat but is my daily driver. I am a quartz fan but some cup nails give off a weird oil flavor. If anyone knows of a smaller 19mm quartz flat nail let me know

So I decided to wait on my entire order from ALT so I thought I'd try that cheap ebay nail I gave the link to. Its obviously no Boro Syndicate nail but it does the job for now. It was $12 shipped for 3 quartz nails, so I thought I'd give it a try. The package smells like a head shop and judging by the sellers other items I'm assuming that it came from one, it shipped out of Goshen, New York. Upon opening one of the individually packaged nails I threw it across the room, it bounced off the sharp corner of my desk with a loud "Tingggggg" and bounced 3 feet off of that onto the floor completely unscathed. I feel like it would've broken if it was glass. I proceeded to clean it with some iso then heat it. Heated fine so I hit it unseasoned and what is there to say, it tasted like a nasty unseasoned quartz nail. The nail isn't hand made, I wasn't expecting it to be considering the price and looking at the pictures. I'll probably just give the others away. My curved dabber doesn't work for shit with such a deep cup. Its pretty thick, I'm having trouble getting the inside of the cup hot enough... my torch heated my old ti nail pretty fast.

Heat it up in the dark, ive noticed quartz is decieving... In the dark I let mine get red glowing hot, dome it, grab my dabber and once all slight red glow disapears... Dab. It happens pretty quick if u dry hit ur piece a time er two right before u dab... I had problems at first only having worked with Ti, but now.... I love quartz and wanna get some more. Once u know how long it takes ur nail to dropfrom combustion temp to vape temp its easy peasy in any lower light setting... It can be difficult in bright light for me, but that may just be my eyes.

Now I think I'm dabbing when my quartz is too hot, but I haven't gotten to extensively test it.
I'm liking the deep cup though. I want a quartz nail with a head like the highly educated ti nails. Big and flat with a short wall. If anybody knows of one let me know!

the diveted 14mm quartz from boro syndicate at aqualab has no walls and is the best tasting quartz yet So many quartz nails have too deep of a cup and too thick of walls and it messes with the taste. Maybe that is why so many hate on quartz. But once you find a good one it has the best (least) flavor (imo).

I seasoned the nail and got the temp dialed in. I love the way this thing hits, the taste is somewhere between glass and ti if that makes sense. The oil vaporizes on the inside wall of the cup before it can pool at the bottom so I'm actually a fan of the cup. Google searches pull up a lot a threads on other sites with a lot of misinformation about quartz and titanium. Maybe its because the novelty hasn't worn off yet, but I really this nail. Now its time to invest in more quartz. I really want a quartz honey pot or something similar.

29mm, not 23. Whoops

I have an 18mm quartz cup nail now. Im gonna be ordering a 14mm cup, and a 14 & 18mm divited quartz nails... Im curious on flavor diffrences... If I wasnt loading up on other stuff I would add the 29mm myself, but that will just have to wait.

Any suggestions on where to pick up a dabber locally? I hear a lot of people fancy Dental Picks but I can't find any all metal ones. Closes was this

Should I shoot for all metal or would this tip on this be good enough?

i saw this vid a couple days ago.. it's not the classiest oil piece.. brings a crack pipe bong attachment piece to mind.. but after letting it sink in it seems cool.. definitely simple..

I don't know a local source but those dental picks should be good- dabbers don't heat up that much. You might have a bigger issue if that metal is low quality though. Stainless steel or titanium is ideal.

On another topic, I got a tube today and it came with an oil attachment I've never seen before. Apparently it's called a breezeway, and it works surprisingly well.

Actually @Atomsk I've used the very same set of dental picks, and the white tip nearest the metal has melted away slightly! I would get some different ones, prefer an all stainless steel design since that happened. They sell an entire set of all stainless steel dental picks at Harbor Freight for 3 bucks. Good luck!
