My first time trying edibles

My friend gave me a couple "special" brownies that she said are extremely potent. Since I have never tried an edible before, I am only eating 1/4 of the brownie to start off. I don't want to be comatose, so I'd rather start small.

Does anyone else have a lot of experience with edibles? I'm not even sure how to store these brownies, or how long I can keep them. Any advice? Thanks! :)

You can freeze them. I usually try and eat them within a couple months. You are doing the proper thing trying a bit at a time. Depending on if you have recently eaten or not, it could kick in from 45 min to 2 hours later.

I would say wait an hour and then eat another 1/4 if it is weak, wait an hour, etc...safest way to control it.

Personally, I just eat the whole thing. But I'm impatient like that. :smug:

I ate it at 3:20, and I'm getting a bit of nausea. I did eat breakfast this morning, but not lunch. I don't think I feel anything yet, besides sick to my stomach. :(

So, I could cut my portions into small squares, and freeze them individually? I'm afraid they would get stale (hard as a rock and unedible) if I left them out at room temp for a month or more.

I would be sure to get as much air out of the freezer bag as possible and then freeze the portions. Stays fresher in the long run.

If you are feeling ill, you might want to try them out after a meal.

FWIW Vicki, edibles never helped me with nausea, but did very well for pain. Of course YMMV :)

Thanks. I'm gonna go ahead and portion them out now and get them in the freezer.

Kinda too late to eat a meal with this dose, but you're right. From now now, I need to dose these with some food on my stomach. I just ate a little popcorn, and that helped some.

I think it may be starting to kick in, but not sure. This is my first time, so it's hard to tell. My body pain is almost non-existent (which is awesome), but I don't really feel a body buzz. Maybe that is yet to come?

I did go ahead and eat one more 1/4 of a brownie, 1/2 total. It's been one hour and 40 minutes since consumption, so I imagine I should feel some kind of buzz soon.

I tend to feel relaxed overall with edibles, and nothing really specific. When I use rum tincture, that is when it gets to my head. :science:

I'm glad you didn't over do it. Edibles can be hit or miss, especially the first time :)

Oh, I know, me too! I have read some stories about people taking edibles. The stories that stand out in my mind the most are the ones where people ate too much. Then they felt awful and passed out for hours.

I think half a brownie is my max dose. We'll have to see. ;)

I am definitely saving some for MegaCon next month. :D

Oh its really bad . . . edible overdose may also induce diarrhea and vomiting as well. Fun stuff :haw:

Yeah, I think I'll pass. :uhoh: Having the nausea after I dosed does concern me, though. I'm trying to get rid of nausea on a daily basis. I don't want to make it worse. I'll definitely have to have a small snack every time I dose. Is nausea common when consuming edibles?

i'm glad they worked for your pain.. i use edibles often... it helps me w/ muscle tension... nothing serious... but if my muscles are not relaxed, my mind is not relaxed.. and if my mind is not relaxed then i feel i'm not "stepping w/ the right foot".. i make my own, usually w/ my ABV and coconut oil... i find edibles with the chlorophyll cooked in to give me stomach/digestive problems.. decarb'd herb never does (for me). i like vaping w/ my edibles.. it save herbs and I use less edibles... using decarboxlyated herb and doing a cold infusion would give more cerebral effects (FYI if you ever make your own)

I never experienced nausea from edibles before, but we're all wired a bit differently. There are some that lack the enzymes to break down the THC and for them, no matter how much they eat, nothing happens.

You were smart to start off slow. MUCH better to take too little in the beginning than have to white knuckle it from taking too much.

Same here. Vaping is the only thing that helps with my nausea. It doesn't take very much either, a very light quick dose, compared to medicating for pain. This, for me, is very strain dependent as well. Anti-nausea weed won't kill my pain properly or vise-versa . . . thats why I love Blue Dream, its the closest thing to "Swiss Army Weed" that I have found so far.

Well, hopefully the nausea won't happen again, especially if I eat a snack.

I was too afraid to eat more than I did. I still have the feeling of well being. I vaped some kief too, and now I think I'm starting to feel it in my head a little, and kinda tingly all over. :)

I learned the hard way with edibles and fresh herb used in the recipe. As I came to understand, there are tiny little hairs in fresh herb that are just small enough to irritate one's digestive tract. I also can attest directly to the less is more approach to edibles and "self-titrating". Once the dose is consumed, all bets are off. I would rather not test dose myself with each round of edibles, so I usually do qwiso extracts on my ABV. I really dig coconut oil and will definitely make some infusion, however I lack the testicular circumference needed to survive any further "white knucklers"...Stop by and try some if you like, we' re on the East Coast.....

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
Edibles share the same conundrum as spores....... if you over do it, they both have no reverse, and your stuck taking the ride no matter what frame of mind you choose to approach it with.

At least with vaping (or toking), you can level the game with some sweets.

Btw, make sure if your vaping YOU HIDE THE YUMMY LOOKING EDIBLES !...... <---- BTDT !

I gave up edibles after my second white knuckler. Dosing is too hit or miss with me. Mostly I didn't get any effect, but sometimes they worked really well. But 2 overdoses have taught me to stick to vaping.

Exactly. Once you eat it, you can't "un-eat" it.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! Posts like yours made me want to be extra careful. I wanted to get the effect, but didn't want to make myself sick by eating too much. What was it like for you when you ate too much? How did you feel?

The first was on a Christmas day. I know.... dumb idea it was. :bang: I had to turn off all media in my mancave and just ride it out. I felt too awkward to communicate with anyone. It was just a really uncomfortable 6 hours. I was just thankful that my visiting father had left before the 'ride' started.

The second occured in Brazil on my first day of vacation. I felt similarly uncomfortable as the Xmas ride.... but I had nowhere to hide and ride it out. So it was magnified 10-fold for me. Tripping out while acting as a Portuguese translator was really stressful. I finally decided to drink my way out of it and that actually seemed to help.
