I don't see an option for 10 ft.
That's odd. I don't see it either, but I have bought it in the past. That was a couple of years ago, though. Looks like it's no longer availible.

I still recommend getting the 25' roll. I went through the 10' roll faster than I thought so I decided to just buy in 'bulk' and get the 25'.

:peace:

I don't see an option for 10 ft.

Looked at the Tygon again and see that my prev post was incorrect re it costing less than the Amazon. It was less last time I looked, only a couple months ago, too. The 5/16" x 7/16" x 1/16" here . . .

http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=31571&catid=799

is what you would want. But it's >$3@ft. So 10ft of Tygon about the same price as 25ft at Amazon.

Wait, this was discussed just a couple days ago; I knew my memory wasn't that bad . . .

Both vendors claim medical grade, both are reputable. No specs, though. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

. . . OBG (post count 999 btw:cool: ) . . .

Ah, a milestone of sorts. Thx, Stu. But I've got a helluva long way to catch up with you. :D

It doesn't perma-stick to the glass pieces, I've found, and most silicon can be alcohol rinsed safely, to clean it, and to reclaim the golden goo.

What is the DBV tubing made out of? I used to have that and didn't have a problem with it. Also, fwiw, I plan on using bags more than the whip.

Ok, I'm loving my new silicone tubing, but it is starting to smell really potent. The standard EQ tubing didn't do this (this breathes).

Will swishing some salt / iso (maybe applying heat?) alleviate this?

I doubt it....I want to know if we can boil them. Which ones if we can aren't safe to boil cause we get no specs when we get tubing with vapes. I got the old tips from the INH, NO2 tubing, SSV tubing and others. I so want to boil them and also use them for reclaim. I want to cut a piece and put it on the end of my solo stem to protect it from banging around the pot when boiling. I hope we can.

Just ordered a 10' silicon tubing through Amazon for the NO2 [Tygon Versilic SPX-50 Silicone Tubing, 1/4" ID, 5/16" OD, 1/32" Wall, 10' Length, Translucent]

We carefully measured, and ID = 1/4", OD = just a smidge over 3/8" for the original tubing it came with (some sort of vinyl tube, I think)... I am of the opinion that, for my own usage, the ID is way more important than the OD... especially with silicon, since it has stretchy properties.

Having a more flexible tube will help with my water connections...

I've been using the 3/8" and 1/2" I.D. high-temp silicone tubing used by brewers:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0064OF8SK/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0064OF90W/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Description reads: Un-reinforced flexible silicone tubing with a maximum operating temperature of 500 F perfect for post-boil wort and transferring hot liquids. This tubing will not introduce odor or flavor to your water or wort even at high temperatures. Burst pressure is at 30 PSI at 70 F.

Dreamer your idea to use silicone tubing to protect glass during boils from the other thread should be possible, for example the Solo stem can be pushed/fitted inside the 1/2" I.D. tubing so as to not worry about stem smashing around during the boiling process.

That was my plan filterhead but will the tubing make it through boiling was the question? I may just boil different tubing today in a cheap pan in case it melts today and report back. That banging glass is not good at all. I also have those long straw I use and I doubt the dishwasher will clean them good enough and if I can reclaim all the better. Putting a sliver of tubing on each end of the glass was my brainstorm last night so I hope it solves the issue for me and others.

I've done 10 to 15 minute boils with my tubing pieces before and they seem fine afterwards. I don't really know how hot the bottom of the pot actually got though. No worries the pieces were not touching the pot bottom or sides during the boil as I was using a steel strainer inside the pot to keep the pieces confined to floating in the boil and/or being in contact with the strainer mesh itself.

You know this won't be using the mesh strainer as it is for reclaim and the straws are big. I was thinking of taking apart an old strainer and laying the screening on the bottom of the pan. So we still don't know if the bottom of the pan will melt the silicone. I guess I am going to be the ginney pig which is fine.

Did a few tests using one of those infrared thermometer temperature measuring gadget (temp gun) and wanted to share some data points. The natural gas flames on my stove burner were measuring ~675 deg F. The bottom of an empty metal pan (ceramic coating) placed over the burner eventually reach that high of a temperature since it is very close in contact with the flames underneath. With the empty pan at much too high of a temp, I then added enough water to cover the bottom about 1/4" deep, after some initial steam and evaporation there was still a shallower layer of water covering the bottom and as it was rapidly boiling off the infrared gun was reading ~230 deg F.... once the remaining water started to evaporate completely to expose the pan bottom then temps started climbing back up to burner flame heat level after a few minutes. The few occasions I reclaimed, it was from glass. The few silicone tubing pieces that I boiled did not fully restore the smell to fresh nor the color back to new.

So can you try to boil a stem with a piece of silicone at each end to protect it. With water in the pan it seems like the temp won't go high enough to melt the silicone. It will be hard to tell since all the silicone we get from different vape companies never tell us the ratings on them. So let us know which silicone you have tried please. A million +1s for doing this.

I did that test too, no melting occurred. A piece of the 500 deg F silicone tubing at each end of the solo stem or glass straw is good although protecting them midway may be important too, a bunch of stems or straws all boiling away in the same pan could collide with one another. The tubing did not melt however its resiliency/suppleness(?) may have been compromised a bit based on duration of exposure to raised temps. Even the high-temp silicone tubing pressed against bottom of pan by weighing down the submerged stems/straws the protection tubing/bands did not melt after 15 minute boil.
I linked the high-temp silicone tubing from Amazon a few posts above on this page. The 3/8" I.D. stuff works good for whips, this size also fits snuggly over the mp end of the solo stem. The 1/2" I.D. stuff slips off the mp end of the solo stem but fits snugly over the bowl end of the solo stem.

I have to check and see if I can find the ratings of the SSV tubing cause that one fits the mouth part of the solo well. If I cut it skinny enough like a rubber band I might be able to roll a piece down easier over the bowl end going from mouth to bowl instead of trying to force it on the bowl side. If it doesn't actually melt and we don't think any chemicals are leeching into the water that is fine. We can either use the tiny pieces again or toss them out and use new ones next time. Save old messed up tubing for that purpose I guess. Also after it gets really soft I think it goes back to normal when it is totally cooled. I did use a lighter one time to soften one.

ISO alone won't get rid of the stink. You need to start by soaking the tube in ISO for awhile (I do it for at least 15 minutes), then I dump the ISO and refill the tube with Hydrogen Peroxide and let that soak for another 15 minutes or so. The hydrogen peroxide does a decent job of reducing the odor, and also seems to help keep the tube from yellowing (mild bleaching action).
