I feel that these products really deserve their own thread...

If you love your concentrates... or want to love them... oilslickpad.com or oilslicksheet.com

I love these things, i personally own a set of the solvent resistant silicone small oil slick pads, a large silicone pad and as of today a 16"x 4 FOOT! roll of oil slick PTFE sheet. They also have a very cool silicone ball that you can use as a storage container which i intend to get at some point. With that said, I have used my large pad for many runs with no issue at all... I do suggest you keep all tools away from the pad if you use it to run with... it is sensitive material and can be damaged. remember, we don't treat scalpels like hammers anyway so be careful. I do not use the small ones for running as they are the size of note cards! but i have used them for many "handling" purposes and they are just dandy!

but in all fairness... I am hoping that some of the other enthusiastic FCer's might be so kind as to post up some pics of those... I really wanna get to the reviewing of the Slick Sheets!

I was kinda expecting a parchment or wax-paper box that was gonna fall apart... gladly surprised that this is a very nice box that opens on the end so it stays protected in the box

So you think that this stuff would look like parchment, but upon closer examination, it is very much not! It feels like a textile!

If you use a 8" square pyrex as a container then this is great news for you, if you use a different size you will have to experiment with this. Never the less, you can get 12x 8"x8" squares. and it cuts like paper!

Note that I trimmed the corners. I found that that is the key for keeping it in the pan... that and a little forming too.

When your done getting your sheet roll the excess up and slip the provided tube over. See how neatly it holds down the longer section?

Now the fun part!

This stuff is PTFE specifically formulated to be non-polar solvent resistant... unlike the silicone pad that distorts some from temperature and solvent reaction the sheet doesn't budge! no distortion no nothing!

but then we gotta collect that sticky golden joy... BTW, we are running a very small 5g of Kandy Kush... 3 weeks from chop, 2 from dry. FOLD! there is a little different technique to working with this over the pad. the pad distributes the heat more evenly over its entire surface, the sheet does that some, but to a much lesser point... also keep in mind that the temperature differentials between heating surface and pad/ sheet surface are gonna differ simply because of the mil difference. the sheet is only like 3 mil where the pad is much thicker. i think great results will come from using them together. I was initially a little bothered by the creasing, but it does not even seem to effect the performance of the sheet.

After a little more purging we ended with 1.2g from 5g of flowers giving us a 24% return. im happy :smug:

sorry this last one is out of focus.

Great Review! I'm looking forward to getting the pad & sheets, just waiting on finding a place in Canada that sells them.

I got my ptfe roll a week ago as well!!!! Loving it I found like you said combining the oil slick sheet with the pad works wonders. I Put the silicon bad down first so it sticks to my pan then the ptfe ontop of the silicon so it also sticks and has better heat distribution =). Did you notice a slight amount of oilish stuff come through your ptfe? I did but only enough to create the weaved pattern on the silicon underneath.. <3

I did not have that issue, however I had the sheet directly in the pyrex, not on the pad... Perhaps the pad pulled it through?... And I only us 5g so as u can see I did not have alot of butane sitting for very long. Individual results may vary since we are all purging diffrent amounts.

I read that silicone swells when it is soaked in alcohol for a long time. So would oil slick pads or any other silicone mat absorb some of the alcohol and therefore absorb some oil?
Has anyone noticed anything like that when making qwiso with the oil slick pads? I'm not talking about the PTFE roll.

I use iso and everclear with my oil slick pad. I have not seen the swelling with either alcohol. The swelling or "distortion" as ive taken to calling it happens wirh non polar solvents like butane. I say a good deal of it is the silicone reaction to the extreme temprature change that occurs when the frozen butane hits the warmed pad. It asctually becomes somewhat rigid (stiff) even after the liquid butane is gone an small runs. I have handled the pad just after all liquid has evaporated and even though it was sitting in a 180° - 200°F pyrex the pad is cool to the touch.

I have had no noticible issue with alcohols. Purge away!

Edit: however, I have noticed some staining... Mostly from running very green low grade stuff and trim... And mostly butane. I have no doubt that when used for extractions involving solvents there is a "tread life" so they will need to be replaced eventually, but that is contengent on a users quantity use and care for the product. IF USING WITH SOLVENTS KEEP SHARP AND POINTY TOOLS AWAY AT ALL TIMES. cant stress it enough, its designed for folding to collect, not scraping with blades.

I just ordered the large pad and a ball from those extraction guys. Review coming soon!

thanks for the tips, I used my slick sheet over a cut slick pad and with the corners cut stayed perfect no deforming from spray to purging. Very cool product, I like how I can cut a small piece and give it to friend instead of glass or plastic container.

So I have some qwiso that I redissolved with some reclaim. Trying to stretch my dwindling supply to save some money. Its pretty runny and I cant seem to get if off my oil slick pad. I have an air purifier blowing on it to help dry it. I'm trying to avoid dissolving it again.
Anybody have any folding tips or techniques? Or ways to deal with highly viscus oil on these pads?

i have a teflon coated lab spoon/spatula i picked up when i first started for like $20.
i bet it would be ideal for this situation z9

I wish I had the luxury of putting things like that in my freezer whenever I wanted. I think it was too runny and i had too little spread over too large of a surface area. First time using these pads. I redissolved my oil and put it in my glass dish. I'll try the slick pad again on my next full run.

I think I take back how much I like the slick sheets. When running indica's that usually come out more of an amber color rather than blonde, if the product is sticky or even glassy, bits stick to the sheets no matter how much I put in freezer, dab off, try to stick to the small pad I could not get off a fair amount. What I had to end up doing was stick the sheet to a ceramic plate, and peel away really quick leaving everything on the plate. Scraped a fair amount that would have been stuck. I am going to stick with the slick pads. Once I got it all back on pads rather than the sheets everything was all good. :2c:

From the reading I did when I was deciding if silicone was safe or not, the swelling doesn't have to do with heat. The butane is a solvent. It breaks things down. It does the same to silicone. It will pull apart the molocules, but only far enough for some of the solvent to enter in between them. They hold together, though...in theory. I'm sure the pads break up eventually.

Curious, though, do you use a tool to break the bubbles at all, or not use anything to keep the pointy stuff away?

If that happens again, try heating it up. Heat it and cool it over and over and eventually, after it's cool it should stick together.

Thanks for the update. I only ordered the larger oilslick pad and set of 2 smaller ones anyhow. The shipping on the sheets would have been like $30:o

so if doing an 99%ISO or EC wash/extraction the large slick pad should not be used? as in filter into the pad (inside a pyrex) and purge from there?

and what about that Martha wrap stuff? its parchment on one side and foil on the other. anyone used that? that would make lining a dish very easy. and its only like $5-8 a roll. Reynolds also makes a "non stick pan lining paper" which is the same.

I have personally done iso and ec washes purged in just that manor. Works great. I would not suggest the sheets for that though. And even with bho the sheet is only a single use for extractions... I tore my sheet while purging toniht.

But I love my oil slick pad! It was right there to save the day and finish up with minimal loss that will be saved for later

There are new slick pads that are different. A few little differences that add up. More glossy, more slick, brighter and smaller green edging, and firmer, more stiff. Had a not so fun run, likely due to the starting material, came out very shattery glass. Was super fun trying to get seemlingly micron thick glass shards off that pad.. Very potent though! Old pad on top, new pad on bottom.

Kush, u get urs from alt or amazon... Ebay? I have gone back to using my pad for purging... The sheet just didnt stand up,next to the pad.
amazon, yep same thoughts on the sheets. I placed an order for the slick balls, 2 big pads, 2 small pads, and everything is the new style but the balls lol. I really like this slick ball! Very easy to drop in dart ready sized pieces of glass and I can just shake it like candy.

i just saw that you said that already answered that earlier in here... whoops

a little off topic but, what about evaping on MarthaWrap? or the Reynolds version? its basically foil on one side and parchment on the other. any reason to not purge on parchment? unwanted waxes?
