Adding D-limonene to bho/honeycomb wax

I guess the syringe can be replaced with any container, and you could use a normal coffeefilter to pour it trough afterwards...

How long does one winterize with alcohol? Is 95 procent grain alcohol going to work for this?

I tried it with alcohol last time, but forgot to freeze it....

i would love to hear more about this. where does one get a setup like in that pic? w/out having to buy 100 of them...?

You can pick up 10 .45um syringe filters with 10ml syringes off Amazon for under $30:

When I winterize, I usually keep it in the deep freeze over night. I've used both 99% ISO and Everclear... both work. After it's been in the deep freeze over night, I run it through an unbleached coffee filter and then purge.

I like having the syringe filters available if needed, but they are kind of a pita to work with. I generally find that the coffee filters provides sufficient filtering.

had a little experiment time yesterday. Made 8,5 g of concentrate, dissolved it back into alcohol and winterized it overnight. This time it left quite some residue in the filter.

Then I added .4g of d-limonene. it has been evaporating since this morning. Hope o be abe t 'sample'it tonight...

So u like the winterization? I've never tried it, but gonna .... What was your method

i ran 17.5g of ABV through Iso and filtered twice. evaped, scraped, and redissolved in EverClear then put in the freezer for about 19 hours. then filtered again and its now purging on a hot plate set to low. below is what it looks like right now. its not runny, but its not solidifying either really. its very sticky, but does not run when the dish is tilted vertically. smells ok considering its ABV qwiso, but im wondering if winterizing it in EC one more time will help...? thoughts?

oh and how are you all adding the D-Limonene to your product? just dropping it in there before evaporation? any stirring needed?

I tried two ways of adding d-limonene.Both times I used less then 5procent of total weight.

First one I added it to the cold solution of bho and alcohol. When I filtered it a whole lot of sludge was left in the filter. It smelled like d-limonene, the bho did not. Still evaporating...

Second method I tried, was filtering the alcohol bho solution and then adding the d-limonene. Again in freezing temperatures. Little black balls appeared in the solution so I decided to filter it again. Also still evaporating, but could not resist little dab of it. Hard to tell, will need to evap more to get rid of al the alcohol.

Would it be a good idea to evap further in the vac chamber at about 65degrees celcius?

And yes, it seems like it is very hard to get it to turn back into a solid once you turn it into an absolute. Any tips on this?

Will see this weekend what it turns into :-) I do love the colour you get after turning it into an absolute a lot more. Really looks like golden jelly...Only downside is I find it harder to store and to use...:2c:

so after leaving the extracts for some time both of them buddered up again. I reheated al of them and put them back in the vac, several times. And now I was left with pretty solid, glassy pieces. A week later they still look the same :)

The one where the d-lmonene was added to the alcohol came out the same as ones without it.

The one where I added the d-limonene just after the extraction still has a slight lemony taste to it, not so outspoken anymore as before, wich i actually prefer.

Next run I hope to be working with a different strain (probably amnesia, yeah sucks being in Europe where the kushes are still not very well known) that has enough flavor to it by itself...

And then the cops came and took everything away...:argh:

The adress of my friends was mentioned by some vietnamese people who got busted big times. Now how they got my friends adress I really do not have the faintest clue.:uhoh:

Luckily they were looking for a big plantation...So they are going easy on us.

Yet I wonder, they came in with a warrent wich was clearly not grounded in nothing. They took my vac pump, 3 dessicators and even my bottle of alcohol(that you can buy in the normal supermarket over here...)...

Shit:ugh:

OH NO!

that sounds like a huge headache.

Sadly i hear more and more stories of injustice and illegal behavior by the law enforcement authorities and some government people as well.

We all need to put aside our difference at get back our rights and our will

But that is great feedback, Ive been away for a few weeks, and was looking forward to hearing the results.

This is some great information and makes me wonder if i should also start doing the winterization step.

I have everything ready for a similar experiment with bho but without the winterization steps.

I guess it's a damned shame in a way...I was just providing myself with some medicine...

But I guess for now i will keep my head down and walk in between the lines...hehe whose lines:tinfoil:

i can imagine getting the winterized solution out of the freezer and into the syringe would be quite a task before some of the undesirables start to melt and make their way through the syringe filter.

would you load the syringe up first and winterize it in that? or am i just over thinking this?

You could certainly try that, but the problem is how long it takes to push sh*t through a syringe filter. Unless you happen to have access to a walk in freezer that you could perform the entire operation in, I don't think it would matter.

I just draw the winterized solution up into the syringe, attached the filter and pushed it though as fast as I can.

My preferred method at this point uses a 600ml Pyrex beaker and a funnel that fits perfectly on top of the beaker. I put a coffee filter in the funnel, place the funnel on the beaker, pour my winterized solution into the funnel and placed the entire thing in the freezer.

The cool thing about these .2 micron syringe filters is that they remove fungal spores, bacteria and some of the smaller wax impurities. ideally you would filter through 103 filter paper then the syringe.

If you are looking for a bigger syringe, check out a farming supply store. We have a place around us called Tractor Supply. They sell syringes for use on livestock. These are also a good cheap substitute for meat injectors.

Be careful using cheap syringes they need to be non-reactive, PTFE or HDPE preferably glass if you have the money. You are dealing with solvents after all.

EDIT here is a link for cheaper glass syringes http://www.nttworldwide.com/syringe.htm

Many of the plastics they use on syringes are non reactive with solvent, after all, most things injected via syringe are dissolved in solvent.

Especially the solvents that most on this board are likely to acquire.

The only thing I have seen issue with regarding syringes were cheap ones with rubber plungers tend to react with high % iso. You shouldnt have any issues with food grade solvents and medical syringes.

Edit: the reacton was that the plunger expanded causing it to stick and then be diffficult/ impossible to place after removal. You will see caution suggested with cheap rubber orings and iso as well.

You wont see a reaction per say but there can be a leaching of toxic chem out of the softer plastics into your high purity concentrate (not good). Medical syringes should be perfectly fine even though none of the solvents we use are commonly used in the syringe in the medical industry.
