It's not firmware, what was upgraded (well, maybe too). It's hardware. Nobody gets hardware upgrades for free. Maybe firmwave, but not physical hardware.

Quite true. To put just a bit finer point on this, what is updated regularly is software; it becomes firmware when it is written to a device such as an eprom. While an upgrade to firmware can be (and usually is) re-writing the software to the device (this also requires separate hw/sw on the host to perform the update), it can also mean a change to the firmware device and even to the PCB. In this particular case, it is certainly possible that the firmware changes are not in isolation, i.e., some changes may be inter-dependent with changes in hardware. Whatever, we don't know what this firmware upgrade entails. (Whether software updates make sense in the future or not, is a technical question for later.)

Also, IMO good to keep in mind that SM was addressing broader questions and his references to specific improvements was in advance of the official announcement. A fair guess is that VXL would have preferred to hold this information until then. The several improvements SM cited were not intended to be a fully-explained and complete list. Since by definition further speculation will be inaccurate, IMHO it's best to wait the couple weeks to hear the full story.

Unless you routinely have a little excess PBW solution dripping down the outside of your hydratube
:p

______________
For any other new cloud users who want to avoid breaking off their GonG joint, I have a roll of paper towels in my room exclusively for ripping off tiny squares and sticking in the joint to confirm 0% wetness.

With that proactive approach, after 4 months of daily use I can only recall one instance where I noticed the slightest hint of moisture on the GonG afterwards.

It's also really important to not twist the hydratube as you place it on the joint. Like all of these ground glass fittings, they make a 100% seal just from placing it vertically on another joint. Thank youuuu gravity!

Speaking of which I ordered me some, it's been a week and still hasn't shipped. I'll have to check.

I bought some Grunge Off before I knew about PBW. Are they both equally effective or does PBW have the edge?

Haven't posted on here in a while because my Cloud (#689) has been alive and ticking perfectly since July 2012. I've been catching up on the thread to learn about improvements/new HTs, but some of the posts on these last couple of pages are kind of ridiculous: people complaining about GonG joints sticking together/breaking and the Cloud not coming with instructions, etc. So y'all are dropping over $500-$600 on a vaporizer and you aren't even sure how to use it? And you didn't read at least some of one of the two Cloud threads or do the least bit of research? Are you kidding me? Would you same people also buy an expensive sports car with a manual transmission if you didn't know how to shift gears? Probably not...apply that same reasoning with other purchases, such as the Cloud.

There are plenty of instructional videos around to help with how to use this thing. It's well known that this is a connoisseur's vape. If you aren't one, then do some research before you drop $650 on the top-of-the-line package they offer (especially if you don't live in the US). And here's something I remember Dave Ramsey saying a while back in economics class, "Dont' buy anything over $300 if you do not fully understand how to use it". I'm in no way trying to attack people who have had issues with their Cloud, but come on people...

Just going to jump in here and say that even a Expensive sports car usually comes with a full manual that goes for a fair few number of pages. (At this moment) I've read literally every 418 pages on this forum and watched numerous reviews and every video on stonemonkey55's youtube, (anyways you get the point). But I still sometimes get a bit confused about simple things like, what's the exact temperature going to be depending on how much I've turned the dial? The guy already had quite a bit experience with the Arizer Extreme Q so it's not like he's an inexperienced vapor user, I'm sure he gets how it works. And clearly when he didn't he went to fair measures to figure out how to use it.

Off topic a little I'm wondering if they are working on adapting the older version of the cloud to work overseas of if they are focusing on the newer version? It makes sense to work on the newest version with all the upgrades and least amount of problems, however if they have been working on this upgrade for a while perhaps they started it working with the older model? idk. I'd be interested to know what generation overseas users should be expecting.

Wow dude you completely missed the point...so you think that sports car manual illustrates how to manually shift gears? Maybe these same people need instructions on how to inhale, grind bud, and pretty much every other step in the process too. If you have access to FC then you have access to Google/YouTube. USE IT. (and I'm done going off topic, sorry)

If the car in question has paddles as well as a stick for shifting it does. It also typically will tell you where the red line is. As a matter of fact, some manuals will even explain the lowest speed along with the highest speed that is optimal for each gear. They'll even tell you how to use a parking brake and when to turn on the windshield wipers. They can get pretty darn anal.

lwien, lets not foment a huge discussion here by being functionally obtuse. His analogy, albeit imperfect, was both amusing and fairly instrucive. Cars are not paraphernalia and BMW is not VXC. Is this going to be like the McDonalds "hot" coffee thing, "be careful you might spill it and burn yourself!" or how the "instructions on the baby stroller have to tell you to remove the child first before folding or we are gonna get sued!"? Is that what its coming to?

Dub, I think it's a dangerous practice for any manufacturer to exclude instructions based upon who they think their target demographic is simply because there will always be those who will purchase their product who falls outside of that demo.

I, for one, don't think that people need to be FC members or know about FC to get a Cloud. That's what's ridiculous!

And i don't think it is stupid to demand instructions with the product you buy. And he did not read the instructions because they were not available with the unit but was careful enough to ask before doing anything.

The point is, you should not assume everyone knows what you know when you consider how much information to put in the guidelines.

IMO, you should explain it's functionality and warnings associated, starting from the zero knowledge point.

"If i never used a Cloud or any vaporizer, what would i need to know to use it safely?" - This should be the starting point.

Then there should be some troubleshooting guidelines with the most common issues and warnings.

No one is saying instructions shouldn't be provided, this is a startup, they are getting there. The point is did the lack of instructions cause the accident? Each one of us will have to weigh/answer that for ourselves.

Wow. Am I in weird parallel FC universe or something? WTF is going on on here? Actually if you read back a few days and look at some people's profiles it might make sense :)

I really wish there was an option for me to double like your post!

Sony and Microsoft consistently make improvements to their consoles. They are not obligated to immediately upgrade anyone with a previous generation machine. The difference with us is, nothing is actually changing in our unit other than a firmware upgrade and few things inserted so that if the glass breaks, it makes it easier to repair. With all the performance benefits along with the EXTENDED WARRANTY (which many people had said they were happy to pay for), we felt that it justified the price we were charging. Again, we didn't put a gun to ANYONE's head, these are all upgrades that people could take or just have their unit repaired for free and returned in the same condition.

The real difference between Vapexhale and Sony or Microsoft is that they actually read the forums and work harder towards a good customer experience and product than just about any company, especially startups. I had a similar issue as Tigerlord and Vapexhale took care of me. It was a really anxious time because I just spent over $500 for the most expensive vape by far and had a significant other telling me not to spend anymore money on my "habit"

Just for fun I did a google of Ferrari warranty problems and the second link on Google was the following http://www.ferrarilife.com/forums/ferrari-discussion/17426-anyone-have-warranty-claim.html It was a nice long forum post about a Ferrari owner who was denied coverage because he must have somehow bent the hood safety mechanism when in his opinion that must have meant he took a screwdriver to it and bent it himself. I did not see anyone from Ferrari reading the forum to help out and post on a weekend telling the user they would make sure he is taken care of. People often refer to Vapexhale as the Ferrari of Vaporizers but that might just be insulting to Vapexhale's support team:)

I am happy to see everyone getting taken care of. I love this forum.

Have you seen the price of the Volcano? MiniVap? The Cloud is a STEAL considering the high quality glass you get with it. Sorry, I know you're not implying that it's not worth it, I just like to put the cost/value in perspective.

When I said most expensive vape I did not mean the initial purchase :) I just keep buying and buying. Since I got my cloud I bought a Mobius piece, ELB's, cleaning tools for my purchase, et... Given the performance of the cloud vs other vapes it really is worth the money for me.

Great Scott!
Just reporting in that my ticking cloud is still going quite strong. No changes.

Maybe I'll get this upgrade just to have a longer warranty. I still feel my purchase was very much worth it and continue to suggest the cloud to anyone who can afford it.
