So i cant figure out if i should use an AW IMR 2000mah or a Aw non-imr 3100mah. DO You need IMR batteries? It doesn't say IMR on the stock 2900mah batteries that come with the unit so...? Thank!

Your call. The AW IMRs I've personally used, they work. I'd use them again, but would get the 1600 mAh version as they are a little 'hotter' (higher output) than the 2000s. The battery that is being shipped is basically the same beast, just a slightly modified IMR chemistry, unprotected battery.

Protected batteries, OTOH, might not fit. They also might not be up to the power needed. In fact, one of the test batteries I was given (the red one, whatever it is) that used to work fine seems to be cutting out with the slightly higher load power on the new herb cart.

The might. I might even say 'should'. But until you try them and tell us what happens I think that's all we really know for sure.

My battery advice remains the same, if you want to be sure, get the ones TV tested and certifies to work with Cera.

It's also worth remembering this is a system. Batteries that don't provide quite as much power to heat the cart and load are also providing more to self heating. Meaning they're abusing themselves more as you lean on them harder to make up for it. In extreme cases, like MFLB, nearly half the power developed heats the battery not the load......cooking it into an early grave.

Thanks OF, i plan on still getting the TET recommended battery, I was too medicated to point out the charger, but after your testimony on tenergy charger and TET recommended batteries that's what I will do!!!!

Plus i do like tat fact that the tenergy charger has the car adapter option!!!!..........SOLD.......!!!!!!!

Edit**
Still had time to cancel my amazon order, and now i can just order a few extra batteries for some of my 18650 flashlights!!! I really only need one more 18650 charger!!!!
OF or anyone that might know, do you know if the TET tenergy charger can charge 18350's with or with out spacers?

No need to complicate your battery decisions by overthinking things. How 'bout this.

Until there are a number of units in the field. Until some of us have used both kinds of batteries in the Ceras. Until we all learn how the Cera responds as the battery goes from full to empty, especially the LL core since it's the only core that is mostly convection instead of conduction. Until we can start knowing rather than supposing. Just knowing about the battery is only part of the equation; we also need to know how the Cera core reacts to the different characteristics of different batteries. All the different batteries we've been talking about are safe, and you can't go terribly wrong with any of them.

So just buy the same damn battery that TET is supplying with the Cera, and stop worrying about making the "wrong" decision.

It's a high discharge rate Panasonic hybrid/IMR that's inherently safe. It's available cheap; $8.95. There are a number of US places that sell them and have them in stock. You'll can have it in three days for minimal shipping ($5). Here's a link to the place I ordered mine from. They have lots of different suitable batteries for you to get cross eyed over. And you don't have to order a shitload, just order one (or two). In the future if we all manage to discover that one particular battery works better than others, we can all start buying that battery when we need a new one. We're only talking about a $9 (or so) investment here...

Thanks for the link!
By the way some people might want to save a few bucks by purchasing the same product for reasonably cheaper :2c:

rcflo: That's a hell of a price for a 2000mAh IMR 18650, but note that although the wrap is red, it's most certainly NOT an AW. (Nor does e-smokeytreats represent it as such).

That doesn't mean it's bad, but I'm very very wary of batteries of unknown origin; everyone should be too. Lithium cells have enough power to really fuck you up if something goes wrong. I'm also not impressed with the picture, which shows a 1500mAh rating, not a 1600 or 2000 (look at the print on the battery label).

blazingOG: I've bought a bunch of stuff from All-Battery, always with good results. In case you didn't happen to realize, All-Battery is the retail US store for, you guessed it, Tenergy. They often have great "sales/deals" and the site is one of my periodically checked bookmarks.

Boy, I'm with you there. As Haywood points out, the difference is a few dollars out of hundreds. IMO good insurance and peace of mind. I really like not having any nagging doubts to interfere with my enjoying the gear and experience. I also enjoy trying this and that, but I want to have a 'for sure' battery (say) close to hand so I can slip back into 'no brainer user mode' when the time comes. And I'll pay a few dollars more (usually) for that privilege.

Edit: Sorry I just realized I forgot to answer the 18350 question....funny how the mind sometimes works, a couple hours late the bell goes off anyway.....

Anyway, no, sorry, you'll need spacers to make it work. A stack of dimes would probably work. The problem is, however, that's on hot little charger there (just what we want to rapidly and completely recharge the powerful batteries Cera likes best. The charge rate is one Amp, meaning it's roughly twice as much as normally recommended for this class of batteries (generally 1 to 2 hours for a full charge). However, given how much we beat batteries anyway I might do it as long as the batteries didn't get over hot ('too hot to touch' is too hot) charging. Especially if they don't need charging all that often.

Sorry for spacing out this part earlier. OF

FWIW, if any of you still want to opt for some 2000 mAh AW 18650's, I just came across a great deal browsing around.

http://www.e-smokeytreats.com/IMR-18650-Li-Ion-battery_p_587.html

Its a daily deal though, so hurry. Thought I'd share

Good pointer, but be very careful with such stuff, that's not an AW IMR there. Not all IMRs are equal. A prime example would be the IMR 14650 that D9 ships with the Omicron V2. It's 1000 mAh IIRC. And a solid performer. But it has fairly high internal resistance since that was traded to get that attractive mAh rating (at low currents). Simply substituting the 'inferior' 600 mAh AW 14500 gives you an instant boost of something like 20% in power. A serious boost. It gives you performance at 'end of discharge' (battery spent, time to recharge) at say 3.3 Volts open circuit (no load) as the factory supplied 14650 does 'hot off the charger'.

AW brand (actually a broker not a maker, as I understand AW is Andy Wong?) are usually the 'best of breed' and IMRs have self protection and serious power ability as strong suits making AW IMRs a good choice often, but similar non AW IMRs call for some thinking.

Getting top performing batteries (when the chips are really down like we want) can give you that edge. Where 'almost time to recharge' is as good (or even better in some cases) what you'd get with other batteries really inteded for lower power duty.

Counterfeit Alert. Not saying this deal for sure, but check the web, stories of counterfeit batteries being sold off shore at 'too good to be true' prices have come out to be rejects from normal production or cells from dead laptop battery packs!

Spend a little time on Google.

Stop and ask, 'how come the Chinese are selling a battery made in Japan at a cheap rate?'. That's where the genuine ones come from you know, Japan, not China.

Your call, but for the few dollars at stake I suggest buying from a legitimate vendor, hopefully one that supports the Forum and has an established reputation.

Can one of you lucky few new cera owners tell me how the LL core does with hash? Unfortunately the only kind of concentrates available around these parts. This thread has made me so envious of you Cali people right now.

Great. I've only done one 'solid' (pressed) hash, but several bubble hashes (which work very well indeed with few exceptions). Kief didn't work as well, but still OK. It's just hard to get a lot of it in the bowl.

Pressed hash needs to be chopped up for maximum surface area, this is a convection vape.

Hey, come on out to Sunny California. Real Estate prices continue to get better and better a more an more folks bail on the taxes, crime, regulations, high cost of living and other minor details of getting to the Dispensaries.

What ?? no in use member vids yet ?!? Oh my............. come on guys (&girls), feed us your tease ;)
Hehe I was thinking the same thing..

We should all restrain ourselves from the nerd talk until later and just let these first precious pages be filled by user pics and video and that wonderful unboxing glee :)

Sorry to disagree but "nerd talk" is, I think, exactly what he Forum is for?

Trolling for 'vape porn' is not on the same list AFAIK. I think it's fine and all, but I think 'we demand more videos' posts are not very helpful to getting useful information to folk who need it. They are, of course, a big improvement over the whining and conjecture we degraded into a bit ago on the closed Cera fourm.

If overjoyed new owners flood the joint with photos and videos (which I'm sure will happen soon, so make that 'when'?) I suspect there will be plenty for most tastes. But, just as before when Noah made a truly unique series of videos at Member request, some will not be satisfied still I bet.

For now, I resist censorship if the topic is within bounds.

Been following this thread for a while and was very excited to get my Cera yesterday afternoon. I'm a first time vaporizer and need a little help.

OF, I'm firing this thing up, giving a generous warm up time. Flowers are ground fine, dried and packed not too loose and not too tight. I get the taste on the first draw, but then it never seems to go anywhere. I'm pulling on it in many different ways similar to the videos. Just not getting vapor. Cera gets pretty hot, so I know the core is going. I'm tired by the end of it... out of wind. When I take off the cap, flowers are still green.

What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

If it's anything like my T1, the true key is long steady CONSTANT draws! This is convection, you need the constant moving air across the herb to warm it enough. Unlike an MFLB or Pax where smaller puffs are better.

EDIT: gr8fuljon below me brings up a point I didn't think of! Would love to hear from this too. I would guess with normal cleaning it should mostly dump/tap out.

SMELL it! Enjoy. It's like... God's vagina!
Hey all... getting excited to meet cera! According to Zeki... mine should be shipping next week (ordered in early Dec). Got a quick question maybe OF or one of the lucky new cera owners can answer..... when using the LL core, how do u empty it after the load is spent? Can you just knock it out into your hand or do you need some kind of poker device?

Yup, long steady 20 second draws to try and get it going. Just isn't going. A friend tried it as well. Guess ill just have to keep at it... Just was under the impression it was easy to use with any technique.

The bowl dumps easily. Just a quick tap onto hand or surface and load drops out. I'm assuming it will be easier once the herb is vaped!

First off, Howdy welcome to the Forum. Tasty timing for a first vape, well done!

Hard to say what's up, but I think it's very cool that several of the usual suspects have come up with excellent suggestions in less than an hour? How cool is that? They've hit my first pass list for sure.

Let's start at the base. With the bowl empty how long is it taking you to get to 'full blast' on the core. Not just glow, but the final, stable glow that runs unchanged for a minute or more as you keep the power on? While you're doing that, please pay attention to heat buildup in the bottom end. That is the metal of the tailcap, we could be loosing power there.

Anyway, how long does it take to get stable? TIA
