Can someone answer this... as I take small puffs.. the light changes from green to orange for a quick second or two then back to green. Is this normal?

it's the temp light coming on when your lips are putting pressure on your mouthpiece, nothing to do with your draw speed or power. many people on here use the dental pick things to clean but my quick fix for that is get some of the small alcohol wipe pads, and I wipe the MP tube that clicks into the pax very well so the MP tube is wet with alcohol. stick the mouthpiece in and out a few times and that fixes it for me.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is that silver tool below the mouthpiece and what do you use it for? My replacement Pax came in the mail today, and I'm psyched to try it out in a bit. What temperature settings do you guys recommend? I figured I would start on low, take some draws, stir it up, and then do the same on medium. Is that a decent method?
it's a combination tamper/stirring tool that i made out of stainless steel at work (union sheetmetal worker). yeah, it fits the oven perfect and makes a nice brick, the other end has a poker/stirrer. i really don't have a certain way i use the pax, sometimes i kick back on the couch and do a low and slow sesh, other times i just crank it up to med or high for a quick buzz. i guess im in perpetual experimentation. thanks for the compliments.

Light shifting is normal when you draw. As the chamber cools, the unit will attempt to heat up again.

Ok cool... Good to hear. I just noticed it the other day when I was drawing from the MP and I looked down at the light and it turned yellow.

This:

it's the temp light coming on when your lips are putting pressure on your mouthpiece, nothing to do with your draw speed or power.

Not this:

Light shifting is normal when you draw. As the chamber cools, the unit will attempt to heat up again.

Our friend Tweek here hit the Pax once too often before he posted that. When he comes down and thinks about it, he'll remember that purple is the colour when it's heating, yellow and orange are temperature displays.

If I am to be completely honest, it was the FV I just finished hitting. Been a while since I have had a hoot off the old Pax.

That being said, I am off to test it out and look at the lights again. :science:

Lately I've been feeling it's been taking longer to heat up. This could be because it's cold outside right now, but I keep it in my pocket while it's heating up.

A lot of times while it's heating up as of late I have noticed the color changing from purple to orange. Maybe it's going into party mode because I'm walking while it's on?

Any support is welcome!

It isnt party mode, and the cold DEFINITELY brings out the finicky nature of this device. Its the mouthpiece issue everyone keeps running into. Its taking long because your Pax is switching on and off every time it turns orange (The temperature light indicator. If your temp is yellow, for example, you'll see it yellow instead) Clean it good, be sure not to get alchahol onto the white button on the inside of the mouth piece chamber, it can possibly get stuck if you do. Clean the outside of that short little tube you see coming out of the mouth piece, It'll help. Clean Pax is a happy Pax. Go to Plooms website and request some lubricant for the mouthpiece.

Well just heard back from Ploom after the long weekend. They gave me an overnight print out and they said they would sent one back to me over night once they got mine. He said they would send me one that has been tested in house, and to make sure the battery charges on time. Neat! So if they're testing in house first before sending it out, there should be no reason this thing should have any trouble :) If it does, I will assume I have magic outlets that charge at half speed hahaha and will admit defeat. Oh well. It works great other wise. The glass blower was focused on errl so he didnt know about the pax at all. He liked it and I am hoping he starts carrying it at his store, I am betting he will he seemed to want to have all the latest names in portables. No Glass on glass adapter today, soon though. I am planning on revisiting him sunday. Cool dude, let me watch him repair my old bowl.

I consider the light shifting normal when related to draw, for example oven is heated and LED is green, a long hard draw can make the oven get cold enough that the LED will go to purple while Pax reheats the oven back up to set temp -- I would consider that normal operation.

The part I do not consider "designed as intended" is when the functioning Pax stops heating mid session with simply the pressure of lips on mp or even just handling the Pax sometimes. In this case the temp light issue occurs while Pax unit is fully operational and I wasn't taking a long nor hard draw. What actually happens is that my session gets unintentionally interrupted as the Pax circuit stops heating the oven and the yellow/orange/red LED comes on. It is possible to workaround the issue, I fiddle with the Pax and mp and the LED will go back to purple and eventually to green and I can then resume my session again. That's just the way of the Pax, i have figured. It is an awesome little portable vaporizer but has a few finicky traits that are not that big of a deal to me.

your switch/latch is probably dirty and the electrical contact is being broken when you put pressure on the mp. just think of dirty battery terminals on your car, when you wiggle them they make electrical contact and the car starts. the only fix is to keep all points of contact clean, just like the battery on your car. make sure you get in between the switch/latch and the stainless steel tube, thats where your electrical contact is made. i never have that issue anymore since i concentrated my cleaning there. i'm sure ploom could re-design the switch/latch to make better contact, just like they re-designed the sliding ring on the mp.

I agree with all of that. If I clean the Pax after each use and especially that area thoroughly then the next session will be trouble free, sometimes even the next session after that as well. A while ago I got in the habit of cleaning the Pax after every session so as to avoid the temp light issue (you know that whole slogan/way of life thing: a clean Pax is a happy Pax). It works as intended when cleaned that often so totally understandable why they suggest to clean it so much.

Now I've taken a different approach starting since new year. Found it has been easier to deal with the Pax's finicky nature by simply expecting the temp light issue and being ready to work around it by a little fiddling here and there. Nowadays I clean my Pax unit after every 4 to 5 oven loads (1/2 packed), and expect to fiddle with it to get around the intermittent temp light issue.

I know people have mentionted taking their PAX to stadiums, vacations etc. I went to a stadium yesterday initally going to pretend it was an MP3 player with headphones around it and once I saw they were using metal detectors I did not want to risk it going off.
For those that did, did somebody wave a metal detector around you/ did you walk through one? Was it a important high security stadium Im scared for it to go off.

probably worse case scenario if it does trigger metal dectector...tell them its mp3 player and you'll just go put it up. Obviously don't let them inspect--which they shouldnt have a right to do anyway. Unless they smell something fishy, lol.

I would have held it in my hand so they could see it. If the wand beeps, they already can see why and have no reason to ask to inspect it further. I can't think of a device that would attract less suspicion.

I tried out my new Pax for the first time last night; good times were had. I loaded a decent amount into the oven, turned it on low, and got pretty good results. I was surprised how brown my herb got on the low setting, after about 10-12 draws. I stirred it up a little later and took another 4 or 5 draws on medium before emptying the oven. I don't feel like I was getting very impressive vapor clouds, but I felt pretty good after my session. I'm trying to take long, slow draws, I just need to get the hang of it. It got a little 'toastier' than I was expecting, maybe because my herb is a little dry? A few questions:

How do you go about emptying your oven after your done using the pax? I turned it off, let it sit upright for 15-20 minutes, and then emptied it out. Does anyone empty it immediately, while the oven is still hot/warm? Similarly, when is the ideal time to actually clean the pax, while it is still warm, or after it has cooled down? Also, when I removed the oven lid after using it, a good chunk of my herb was stuck to the inside of the oven lid. Is that normal, or does that mean I didn't pack it down enough, causing it to fall to the bottom when the Pax was upright? I don't want my oven lid to get super sticky if that isn't normal. I'm still in the process of learning how to use and maintain my new vaporizer, but it's a pretty damn cool device.

^ I am still learning too but these are my procedures after a session. I open the oven and empty right away, blow out the remains then immediately start the cleaning process while it's still warm as per recommended in the vaporpedia. Yeah the herbs get stuck on the oven lid but some ISO on a cotton swab will take it off.

I didn't think I would enjoy strictly using the vaporizer but after a while, you get use to spending the extra minutes to vaporize instead of the usual 5 minutes of combustion. Less smell, and definitely better on your lungs!

I empty and save my Abv while it's still warm. I also clean while it's still warm. The pax will kinda let you know when it needs cleaned. If it starts throwing a temp light then clean it. I wipe out the oven and oven door with a piece of paper towel after every use and only have to deep clean it once a week to stay problem free!

I know that with vapeworld the discount codes worked for anything they had except for the pax and the volcano. I don't know if it'll be that way with planetvape as well or not.

is there a planetvape discount code to use so i can order my pax? TIA
FCLOVE10 worked for me last week at planet vape although i ended up postponing the order. 10% off. Wait on the regulars to make sure that's the best one to use though

Big news everyone...I heard back from Ploom and can confirm that Propylene Gycol is indeed the lube they stock. They covered themselves, saying that they cannot advise using a brand other than what they provide, and they advise using the lube sparingly, but they did confirm that Propylene Glycol is the correct type of lube.
Dude, I'm beginning to think you are the most awesome guy on the Internet!! Thanks soooo much for dogging this, as well as the Pax Pack pics, pipe cleaner recs, and on and on! Always look forward to your posts & support of all of us! :D
