Mason Jar BHO Method?

Poor guy, scraping that little bowl must have been a bastard! I like the look of this method, I loved the gold colour that the butane took on when he added the herbs.

ya, i'm not using that shape of a dish, I'd look for something easier to scape for sure. I'm mainly interested to see if it yields more. I've also been looking at using a Stainless thermos, so it can soak. I'm just not sure if its worth it or not?

I agree (with relation to the video).....

For a full can of butane I'd be using a minimum of an ounce, a longer soak, unbleached coffee filters (only 2), and a 'lightly ground' product. I'd then purge off, take the result and re-disolve with ISO or ethanol, and polarize it, and refilter, and purge again to remove the waxes from the long soak, then follow up with a vac purge.

Also, I'd choose a better scraping jar or at least fit an oil slick pad into the first and second purge off.

thats right! pics or it didnt happen! :spliff:

thinking about doing this for my ABV for practice when ive got fresh trim.

is this on par with quick washes? (longer you leave it soak in there, more return, less quality?)

Not to the same extent it can increase your yield but being that butane is non polar it wont extract as much chlorophyll as a longer iso soak would. It will extract more plant waxes though which is why i would suggest winterizing like smokum mentioned. Also similar to iso as the butane is chilled its extraction efficiency is reduced making longer dwell times necessary for full extraction.

sorry guys, was just fucking around with some shitty weed so i didn't take pics. I'm not sure that I would use some quality buds with this method or not? Seeing as how the ol' stainless turkey baster hasn't failed me yet :) It is a very simple method but like others have stated, it seems like far much butane...1 run per can...versus like 4

As far as yield goes...7g's in and 0.9 out.

I am in the process of Jump's butane soak method right now on some old stuff. It is basically the same as this but with a longer soak and in a thermos. I ended up having to leave it for three hours, and after did an ethanol wash. That is evaporating right now, and soon will see how it all turns out.

I've read Jump's method quite a while ago and never managed to try it even though from what I've seen it looks like a great process.

Be interested to hear 'your' findings as well. Going to pop a pic and share ?

Of course I will. I didn't along the way, but I will post my final product. Maybe an hour or two until it is done.

A similar guide, paired with an ethanol extraction. Nice pics :o

Well, using a half and half combo of ABV and some mids that were blasted twice already, I got really crappy results. Works well enough, but it wasn't good enough to take pictures of. Next time I'll try it out with fresh flowers.

is ethanol proper for extraction?i used to use ethanol but i dont know it feels like its not evaporating completely,i used ethanol of 96%

Success! Turned 3.2 grams of shake/trim into a bit of marvelous-looking stuff using this method. Did a first wash of around 1 minute, making it swirl around for the duration, then did a 10 second secondary wash. I used a small amount of butane so the majority of it was quick to purge away since I had my evap dish already in a hot water bath. I'm pretty damn happy with the results, it's not bad-looking at all for what it started as. I don't have a vac so I think hot water purging is going to be the way to go here... I also have 91% ISO alcohol, should I wash it with that afterwards to clean it up further?

PS this is my first time fucking around with butane-based extractions.

golden goo! very cool, I don't have a vac either and use hot water double boiler to hot water purge myself. I've heard of cleaning it after with ethanol, but don't know about 91 alcohol. Have you tried the tin foil or lighter burn test? You can check to see if there are sparks from butane or moisture before it goes in the dart or dabbed. Sticky to the touch at room temp or shattery? Fine looking glob from 3.2 of trim! :smug:

I will in a sec, when I let it sit out for a bit to change the water it took on a very hard consistency. Might even end up a bit shattery, but we'll see. Like a harder taffy kinda deal.

Well I gotta say, this is neat. At room temperature it's nearly solid, it cracks/shatters off. .3 return isn't too bad with consideration to the starting material. This was purged with hot water baths, and did not catch fire/I didn't hear any audible hissing when I put a lighter to a small amount, just turned into an oil and started to slowly run down. The last picture is my favorite. Unfortunately I have some plans for in a few hours and I would prefer not to go stoned, so I'll have to test it later tonight.

Edit: I snuck a little bit of it onto the DART. Tastes like it smells, has good effect. A dab of this will do me well later tonight ;)

my friend does it this way.. the advantage is supposed to be that the aerosole's evaporate away from the liquid.. instead of being blown through the herb and getting stuck in the oil, supposedly... also you can soak the herb in a non-polar solvent(like w/ hexane) instead of just spraying it over the surface...

Did you put your herb in the freezer for a little bit too? and the jars? i don't know that it helps much...

So I didn't want to start another thread with a similar subject.

Has anybody else been using this method recently? I'm about to do my first butane runs but I don't know if this method or just using a ss extractor tube will yield better results. Just looking for some more input.

I would winterize in everclear right away with this method, if I used the standard extraction tube method I'd only winterize if needed. Im only running 5 grams of flower so i wont have too much oil to purge. No vacuum purge yet but I may get a hand pump in the coming weeks.

Sorry for any mistakes, I tend to miss a lot when I make posts on my phone.
