It takes something like this to get OF to break out his polaroid and mail the pictures to his grandson to scan and post online. I'm glad he did, for one.

:peace:

Hey, it's a new year. I figured I'd get it out of the way early. I feel better now too......prolly not for the same reason?

This looks like quite a performer, does it get about as hot as the sv dart in use? This seems like a great hope for users who don't need to go all out ceramic, and keep their nostalgia with their original thermovape gems.

I really don't know. I get too blasted on a couple of hits to find out. I'll try again later. It's got a lot of mass, all it does is really get warm putting out a couple of killer tokes. Serious juju for sure.

I agree, some will want to upgrade existing gear. I'm resisting the urge to get one more adapter out and try it on my Persei.....or better still my new Iris. Some things you just know are going to work well.....

Good one OF. Certainly opens many options for other possible power sources.
Is the diameter the same such that the T1 Delrin would fit?

Fellow Vapers,

It's a little crooked (it shifted some as I soldered it up) and the wing nut is unfortunate (but all the local Hardware Store had in 3/8-24 nuts) but that's a chopped down thread adapter (the one for running Omicron carts on TV supplies in fact) soldered on the nut with the center post trimmed to fit.

It's sitting on the Alpha Ultra supply (the one that uses 14500s) making a full blown Cera oil cart rig that's shorter than the Persei body (alone) and smaller in diameter....a tiny bit under 4.5 inches bottom to tip. Anybody want to guess how it hits?

Gotta get TV on board with this. What we really want, I think, is new adapter pieces (complete with switch) threaded for Cera instead of 510 carts for both the T1 and Ultra supplies. That is replace my kluge and the TV piece under it with a new fitting. Give your existing TV gear a new lease on life.....no, an exciting new life is more like it.

Talk about a DART on steroids........

OF has custom CERA pieces before anyone else has a chance to get there hands on it.

Damn! I only know you from FC and I'm so jealous

Thanks. An obvious sort of idea, but it works well. No, the Cera core is the same diameter as the Ultra, the T1 supply (and therefore covers) is bigger. Nothing to say you can't make them smaller, it is a computer controlled machine that makes them after all.

In that same vein, it should be pretty easy to modify the existing interface pieces to change the connector you'd think?

That's a very cool mod indeed OF! I agree with the new switch assembly for the previous thermovape models to use the 3/8 interface. I would also love to see a 510-3/8 adapter since I have a nice variable voltage/wattage power supply sitting here that would pair quite nice with LL, EO, & EL carts for fine tuning. It would also allow me to supply them with constant voltage that won't sag as the battery drains down.

Very true. I agree but be careful with your day dreams here, remember we're talking 14 Watts nominally. That means over 3.5 Amps, well past what most VV heads can deal with. A one Ohm load looks like a short circuit to such guys that are intended to work only to 1.5 Ohms, they tilt out. Some gracefully (limit at maximum power allowed) some 'fold back' (go to low power protect mode). Even 15 Watt heads (like one of mine) are in trouble current wise. EL carts, at more like ten Watts, are probably good.

Another adapter that I'd like to see is m601 to Cera so you can use the new D9 Iris or Persei opening up whole new worlds to those folks.

And maybe, just maybe, when the dust settles we can get TV to experiment with a semi custom higer voltage heater? If we can get that 14 Watts at higher voltage and lower current we might be in business with more VV heads. Not an easy thing to do, but they can do it I think.....

I agree with you that some devices probably won't handle it. The one I am talking about is good all the way down to 1.2ohm max of 5 amps and adjustable all the way to 15 watts.
I don't care as much about adjusting the voltage as I care about keeping the voltage constant for the life of the battery, providing me with a consistent vape experience.

I do plan to get the full Cera, but I would also like to use my full arsenal of devices. This was a selling point of the early Cera discussions as I recall?

Edit: Is the 14 watt core calculated with the fresh charge of 4.2v, or the nominal 3.7v? If that core is 1ohm then I don't think even the iris will be able to handle it?

OF, is the iris a push on, push again off "soft switch" kind of thing?

That is my point. You're inside five Amps, and barely inside the power limit but the device isn't set up to drive lower resistance loads. Many 'fold back' to some small current level until this is corrected, some will just 'limit out' and give you all they have to offer. It will take some testing to confirm I think.

I understand (and support) the idea of keeping the performance constant over the battery life, but some vapes (like Omicron) are more sensitive to this than others (like DART and now Cera). By the time you get to convection like in LL Cera or T1 it's even less of an advantage. I can take either side of 'which is better?' on this one. In the end I like simple systems like Cera and the other TV products, but some of the features (like protection and lock out circuits) are nice as well. VV is very nice, sometimes.

That's TV's rating. I think it's at a nominal 3.7 Volts. In reality it's set by mechanical factors (number of turns of which wire with which lead dress) and then tested to see if it's 'within the window'. One Ohm is a good number to use I'm told for LL and EO, 1.2 or even 1.3 for EL.

Iris is, I think OK with it. But that too needs testing..... Being as it's designed to drive 30 Watts at 7.4 Volts it's capable of doing half that at half that voltage (same current).....if the programing doesn't lock it out.

Actually I think that's 30 Watts. 30 Amps at 7.4 Volts is a bunch.......

Thanks for clearing that up OF. I didn't know the carts had that low of a resistance rating. This is why we like having you around so much!

I do absolutely love the simplistic factor of the Cera body in the aspect that there are no circuit boards to fry. I wasn't meaning to imply that variable voltage is better than a straight up mechanical, just that they each have their own strong points. Testing is in order though, assuming the device can handle it.

Maybe in the far off future I will inquire about having a custom core built to be ran at a higher voltage with higher resistance. It is quite possible that once a Cera is in my hands, that idea will just simply be forgotten though.

First off, you're welcome. Nice to be good for something. I used to be good for nothing......

Yup, it's low but we need power and one of the ground rules is 'has to use 18650s' and nobody wants to use two when one will do......

Not to worry about higher resistance heaters, Tim and I had a chat about that a while back and he's on board.....but after the commitments to future owners are squared away. It will also come up if we can get TV to make an upgrade top for T1 owners. I can see a SV version of Cera for those of us with lots of RCR123As......

Nice as the old stuff is, I bet a month or two from now the word will be out and guys will be clamoring to upgrade to Cera carts......as well they should.

Maybe it was a typo , but persei top is good for 5 amps , iris doesn't put put 30 amps but circuitry theoredicallly can handle was my understanding, thanks for clearing it up

I never said it wasn't good for five Amps, in fact I'm pretty sure it is. What I said is I think it may be locked out with Cera because the resistance is so low the Iris will assume the normal cart (never under 1.5 or so Ohms) has failed (short circuit) or some other problem is up and 'soft fault'. Like when Persei or Omicron flashes at you instead of powering the cart if there's a fault.

At say 3 Volts Cera should be 3 Amps for 9 Watts, easy for Iris, if the protection circuit will let Iris drive it.

And you're welcome too. That seems to be my other function these days.....when I'm not creating confusion I'm trying to clear things up. Life is tough, and then you die.

I have no information about this specific case, but my experience with batteries in general is that they may have some charge or even be close to full. It is always good advice to make sure they are fully charged the first time before you start discharging though.

So I know some of the T1 MPs will fit the CEO but will they all work well?

Like the Smooth Flow or Tru-flow?

I believe they said that with the EO and PG carts that the standard mouthpieces will fit, since the filters are the same size, it shouldn't be an issue.

Yep it was mentioned a couple of times by Noah I believe that they should all fit and work in the EO and EL carts. If you are wondering how long they will stay moist or how effective they will be, I am not sure anyone has an answer for that at this time.

I personally think the Cera looks quite nice with an EO and a 510 drip tip in it from the few times we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse.

Edit: Actually check out this post by Thermovape.

I am not sure if it still holds true or not but they said that every Essential oil or vegetable glycerol kit that was ordered will have a free tru-flow drip tip included in the order for the foreseeable future!

Yes, they fit fine and work as always. True Flow doesn't magically pull easier but they definitely fit the hole in the top of the metal carts, in fact my Beta oil cart came with a white plastic drip tip (which is the one in the photo above in fact).

Since I only hit the oil cart a time or two (not a lot of time to heat up) if I'm not mating to a WP I prefer the drip tip over the Cera cap and MP and think most guys will too after trying both.

Just got update email from TET

Hello,

Thank you sincerely for your continued support and patience during the Cera preorder. We know you are anxious to receive your Cera, and we want to make sure everything is perfect when you do, so please take a moment to read the following updates.

First, there has been some confusion regarding the type of batteries that will be used for Cera shipments. To clarify: orders will be shipped with 2250 mAH 18650 IMR batteries as opposed to 2900 mAH 18650 Protected Li-Co batteries. As a token of our appreciation, we will be shipping one additional 2250 mAH battery to everyone who ordered at least one 2900 mAH battery. (For example, if you ordered one 2900 mAH battery, you will instead be receiving two 2250 mAH; if you ordered three 2900 mAH batteries, you will instead be receiving four 2250 mAH, etc.)

Secondly, we will initially be shipping momentary switches in place of latching switches for all Cera preorders; the latching switches are delayed, and will be shipped once they arrive. When you receive the latching switch, you will not need to return the momentary switch. The illuminated switch will no longer be offered and everyone who ordered one will receive a refund. Refunds for this will be processed beginning next week, and an email of the return transaction will be sent for your records.

A number of you have modified your orders since they were placed, and we encourage you to confirm your final orders with us before they are shipped. For those of you who have not amended your original order, we also recommend you confirm your shipping address and any possible changes before orders are shipped. Cera pre-orders are expected to ship as early as tomorrow, so please check in with us regarding your shipments as soon as you can!

All orders will be shipped in the order in which they were placed. (Orders with titanium parts are not yet ready to ship but will be available shortly.) Pre-orders placed before December 25th will be upgraded to USPS Express Shipping free of charge and tracking will be sent to the email addresses provided when your order was placed. If you have not received any email updates from us since your order was placed, please addnoreply@thermovape.com as well as sales@thermovape.com to your email contacts to assure you are receiving the updates being sent!

As always, your support and patience is greatly appreciated. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Cheers,

The ThermoVape Team

Seems like illuminated switch is no longer an an option and those who ordered one will be refunded the difference. Shame I think the cera would have looked good with the added bling but alas.
