Also, any EQ bong pros out there I'd love to know what you think about the potential of either of the following two bongs in combination with the EQ. I think through this online headshop they're both at pretty competitive prices.

Please bare in mind that this is just the :2c: of a :myday: . . .

The Black Leaf is what is usually called (at least in the U.S.) a bubbler, this 300mm/~12" height is typically about the max but a good size for the Q. The glass thickness, mouthpiece diameter, can diameter, inline length are all fairly standard. My inline is the same size & number of slits; mine are gridded, can't tell if these are (and btw even so mine is still a bit chuggy). The page doesn't provide the height of the tree chamber, looks from the pic to be ~100mm/4", a good size can given that this is a two-chamber piece. The 18/19mm GonG joint IMO is important. I've only heard of Black Leaf so can't personally speak to quality of workmanship or glass; this is in particularly important with a tree-perc as they need to be well made to hold up under use. The other question I'd have is with drag and the action - you're pulling thru 2 chambers and 42 slits - certainly a helluva lot of bubbles, but can't guess what actual perf would feel like.

Re the Blaze bong, an entirely different kind of piece and, personally speaking, I don't see it (well, not with my Q anyway). The dimensions and thickness are, again, fairly typical. I can't make out the down-stem; the web page says there is a 18/19mm joint but how is it inside and is it diffused? Seems like you'll be pulling thru a lot of water and then up through a perc which may look "bad-ass" but doesn't appear to provide much diffusion. I have no idea what the feel of the pull would be. And the magnet IMHO is an unwelcome addition to glass that is delicate enough by itself.

Of the two, IMO the Black Leaf is the better choice.

@ Frogboy, I'm in the UK and price range I'd say is £100 ($160) absolute tops, but preferably less.

@ Oldibutgoodie, thanks very much for your opinions regarding the bongs (/bong and bubbler :) )

Are you saying that (very generally speaking) bubblers are more suited to the EQ than bongs because less volumes of water?

The descriptions on grasscity might be more helpful, though I doubt that the height of the blaze bong is 45cm like it says... on alibongo it states 310mm which seems more likely.

http://www.grasscity.com/uk_en/smok...-glass-bong-8-arm-tree-perc.html#.UPXbSW802Sr

http://www.grasscity.com/uk_en/smok...g-with-clipper-lighter-blue.html#.UPXbQ2802Sr

Re the blaze, the downstem is diffused, but i've just noticed that it says the joint size is 18.8/14.5mm which I think means the hole in the bong itself is 18.8, but the female part of the downstem is 14.5 (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong!). If this is the case then presumably I would need some kind of adapter to fit the EQ whip?

I guess a couple of hangups I have about the black leaf bubbler are that there's no space for ice, and it's probably quite hard to clean (doesn't come apart at all and lots of small slits in the percs to get clogged up), whereas the blaze bong is probably quite easy to clean (and the perc is basic but the spiral cylinders seem wide enough to flush easily with alcohol).

Perhaps someone else has experience with a similar bong to this blaze and knows how well they work with the EQ?

Btw I'm completely open to suggestions too if anyone has any great pieces that they love to use with the EQ then let me know!

Edit: Just stumbled upon another one I quite fancy. Bit over my budget though:

@ Oldibutgoodie . . . Are you saying that (very generally speaking) bubblers are more suited to the EQ than bongs because less volumes of water?

It's a matter of both the vapor and water volumes. The whip adds drag (good idea to shorten the whip). With a typical bong tube it takes a strong deep pull to fill and clear that tube. If the water volume is greater, that adds to the drag as well (and may diminish taste). A bubbler will tend to have no more if not less water than a bong, as well as less vapor volume.

The descriptions on grasscity might be more helpful, though I doubt that the height of the blaze bong is 45cm like it says... on alibongo it states 310mm which seems more likely . . .

Yea, those pics/info are better. Hard to say about the height - sometimes manufacturers do different sizes of the same piece. Appears the female joint is 18/19 which takes a 14 slide, so yes you would need an adapter (and you may get a bit more drag). Also, with the better pic, it appears this may be a 2-chamber piece, filled thru the joint and down the mouthpiece for the perc.

Right; most bubblers don't allow for ice. Personally I like ice, which most don't with vapor (may diminish taste, condensation loss) but of course my throat is ancient and my herb quality is only fair. As far as cleaning it, looks like you'd need to put the solution down the joint and the mouthpiece, plug with thumbs, shake vigorously. I have a piece that requires that, and I've taken to simply submerging it altogether in a re-usable container of Simple Green.

I'm completely open to suggestions too if anyone has any great pieces that they love to use with the EQ then let me know!

Reading thru this thread is always strongly recommended. There is a wealth of good info re using the Q, including glass. The thread is long so it takes a good while, but it's worth it.

The stemless inline looks like a nice piece. Heavy. 15 slits (can't see if gridded). I'd expect a good clean draw. I don't see a splash guard though; the ice (or gentler pull) will need to alleviate that.

Let us know what you decide and how it works out.

i recommend less volume than you would use combusting for vaporbonging... the bong i just broke had a little too much volume for me anyway, and it felt like a chore to milk and clear all the time opposed to a piece w/ smaller volume where there is almost nothing to clear... just get something diffused. the next piece i get is gonna be a big bubbler or a small bong w/ good diffusion.

I have owned my Extreme for around 2 years and the cleaning is really easy(glass parts)

I opened it up a few months back and there was only a small amount of abv dust that was not affecting anything.

recently iv'e been distracted by this hard hitting UD, and haven't made much time for the EQ.. i finally did, just a min ago, and it was very nice... i love the flavor i get from a super milky elbow hit
:mmmm: ....

also since my bong broke, i rigged up some other piece and i'm using some slide down stem... i just noticed the EQ mouth stem seems to be designed for those.. i put an O ring on it up to the first spine and then use it like a slide bowl... it works perfectly.

thanks Buildozer.

for anyone curious about this machine, as others have said, let it warm up several minutes at 210, then down to 200, set the elbow on, let it sit another minute, first pull just warms it up and starts releasing flavors, second gets the silky clouds going. thanks to inspiration from this site now there is the water setup you see in the avatar, it's really brought the EQ to life. just fill the elbow about halfway and pack it down gently with your pinky for a method that conserves and gives multiple quality pulls as you climb the dial a bit, much more efficient than combustion.

Decided to finally try vape-bonging. Got out my Luke Wilson 15-arm bubbler and attached it to the Q . . . makes a huge difference when I take monster hits. I no longer get a dry throat that makes me cough.

Definitely need to clean my elbow screens more often though, as just the bubbler adds some pull as it is.

I'm looking into an Extreme Q 4.0 as my first vape! I was originally looking into the Solo, but the Extreme Q is in the same price range is bought from eBay ~$160 including shipping is my budget and this fits right in. I think the extreme Q has some added benefits over the Solo, but it's not portable but I believe will serve my needs for a longer period of time. Does any one have any tips on buying the extreme Q 4.0 as my first vaporizer. I have tried the extreme Q before at a vapor lounge in Toronto as well as a Volcano several times, so I'm not new to vaping, but more new to owning my first vaporizer. Do you think this is a good choice for a first vape. I'm considering selling my new cheech showerhead bubbler to subsidize the cost of this vape, and then buying a smaller inexpensive scientific tube or travel tube like SSFG to pair with the vape in the future, if I don't end up selling the bubbler, then I will just run the vape through it and vaporbong!

Is the best place to buy the Extreme Q 4.0 on eBay for the best price, $140 + $20 S & H or are there better priced alternatives? Which eBay reseller's have no problems with the Arizer warranty? Any other info would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Yesterday I've had combustion incident on the lowest temp yet. Only 210°C were enough to cherry a big load of ABV. I wanted o get some CBDs etc, so I loqaded almost full cyclone bowl of ABV and set on 210 (was't preheating higher before). It ignited pretty fast, I wonder why. 210 should not ignite even if the herb touches heater right? My herb wasn't touching the heater anyway.

The Extreme (predecessor to the Q) was my first unit and I would recommend it to anyone as a starter device. It's not the best at anything but it's versatile and does everything well. Arizer wants you to buy from an authorized dealer, which many eBay sellers are not. Their official policy is that the warranty does not cover units purchased from unauthorized dealers. I know they've given warranty service on such units in the past, however there's no guarantee that they will.

If you are considering an Extreme then you should also look into the Herbalaire, which has many similarities but the advantage of being nearly indestructible. The Arizer design has a glass heater cover that is susceptible to breaking. It's not expensive or hard to replace, but it's a real nuisance to have your vapourizer out of service.

I think that sounds like a great idea. You won't be disappointed with the Q! This is my 2nd vape (first was MFLB) and I wanted something that could do bags and whip.

$160 on ebay sounds pretty standard . . . after shipping I think I got mine for around $155 or so and it came with some extra bags and mouthpieces. I can't speak on the warranty issue though, as I have no idea.

IMO eBay is not the best source to buy from, not unless the seller is also a regular retailer or at least has a storefront. pakalolo is right about the warranty provision, and it only makes sense given that there are knock-offs and deceptive sellers out there. Buyers have been burned in the past on eBay.

In the U.S. that price can be matched by authorized retailers. Not positive about in Canada; planetvape.ca's price is $175 w/free shipping with the fc.com discount. This page may be helpful:

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/retailer-discussion-discounts.1802/

Re "a good choice for a first vape", of course that is quite subjective; IMO the Q is because of its flexibility, proven quality, extra features, and a good price. It does most everything well, but not absolute best. So the Volcano and HerbalAire are better with the bag but the Q still gets the job done nicely. As a direct draw machine, it is not naturally as big a hitter as the DaBuddha but with a couple adjustments in technique you can get close. If you want both direct draw and bag, the choices are quite limited. Personally I don't care for the HA's direct draw setup, and the ViVape IMO is over-priced and more flash than performance. From your post I gather you've had some but limited vaping experience, mostly with the bag (?). I started with the bag too, but now I only use it with group sessions. The vapor and experience with good direct draw IMO is far superior, especially if it is water conditioned. Bottom line, if I were just starting out and wanted a quality direct draw only vape, and planned to use a water piece, I would probably go with DaBuddha which is basic but very solid, reasonably priced, and hits big like a champ. For an all-around machine and/or if I wanted extra features like the digital temp control and the remote, I would go with the Q. :2c:

If you plan to use bags and whip, go with the Extreme Q. If you think you will be doing more direct draw, go with the solo. IMO, the solo tastes better and pairs better with a water tool than the Extreme Q. It has a shorter air path and is all glass. The solo also heats up much faster and is portable. Gotvape has a price matching feature thats worth checking out for both of them. Puffitup still has the solo for $160, and is an authorized dealer, I believe.

i was wondering how many of you unplug your EQ every time.. i do but i find it annoying ha... i think i'm gonna start leaving it plugged in all the time, maybe unplug something else in its place ha.

^^ I've had my EQ for almost 2 years, and leave it plugged in all the time. It is on for an average of 12-14 hours per day and I run the fan for an average of 1-2 hours per day. No problems what so ever.

Mine is always plugged it. It is usually on for 4+ hours per day for casual tokes throughout the evening.

Sorry to double post, but do you guys have a preference for a replacement whip? I'm looking for something much more flexible than the stock tubing and something that will make the elbow piece easier to remove.

I've seen a few options but didn't know if there is a favorite.

silicone tubing... i saved this link when some one posted it a little while back... i have never used this site yet... Silcon® Silicone Tubing | U.S. Plastic Corp... i have 5/16"ID, 7/16"OD... i don't know of any better options... it's a lot more flexible than the pvc tubing. If you are having a problem getting the tubing off, you can hold it over the cyclone w/ the fan on high for like 30 sec or so and it should come right off.
