What can i do with 172 g of HerbalAire (deep-spent) ABV in 7 days?

Salutations,

I figure even with only 1 % of actives left there's still over 1 gramm of those remaining in my spent material jar. It's not clear to me what's the better option as i haven't been lucky with HA ABV so far but this time i suppose the amount i've collected should be right, though i'll need to addresse this issue: water soaking to remove the unpleasant content...

It seems i'll need to soak my ABV in fresh water every day, etc. So, i wonder: would it be worth the effort to start reading further or there just won't be enough time to finish the work before New Year's eve?

i would throw it in a mason jar with 91% iso and do a quick wash then pour the mix through a coffee filter and let the liquid evaporate from a glass pan,(pyrex), the bad taste will be there, but it will get you stoned as a motherfucker if done right.

...the bad taste will be there...

Thank you for this confirmation. Here's what i've got:

  • 94% (alc/vol) neutral-spirit odor-free "grain" alcohol
  • 3 cups coffee press
  • Stainless steel permanent coffee filter
  • Paper coffee filter

That alcohol is practically equivalent to what's often being refered to as "190-proof Everclear" around here, which is ethanol suitable for human consumption as there are no additives to denature it. In fact, it's an excellent choice under the present circumstances except ISO would dissolve faster. So it's only a matter of proportions and time, apparently...

Osmosis in a nutshell...

2qi1ac1.jpg

This is one aspect i'm still wondering about: lets suppose i remove the handles and use their mounting holes to firmly join a pair of permanent coffee filters together, then i'd put teflon tape over the middle seam to seal my setup completely... Quite likely i'd find this convenient when dealing with green buds and/or leaves but how about finely grinded ABV???

Would i still need to contain my ABV inside pantyhose tissue, etc?...

Those mesh filters should be sufficient to contain your abv, although you may experience minimal (and negligible) loss of the smallest particles. Keep in mind however, that soaking your abv will require you to dry it prior to extraction. Unless you're planning to dab the oil, I would suggest skipping the soak and go right ahead to the qwet/qwiso extraction. True the oil will taste pretty bad, but baking it into something will mask most of the taste. I recommend a chocolate flavored desert, as those seem to hide flavor the best.

Salutations,

No worries! Lets just say i'm not in such a need to justify this shortcut myself and it is now my understanding that the osmosis rate will turn asymptotic past 7 days (at room temperature) anyway.

Which means i'm willing to wait 1 more week, most definitely!...

Woups! By chance i was careful enough to use the term "practically equivalent": a few days ago i was reading that 190-proof Everclear has more than only water present in it. The discrepancies between province/state legislations doesn't help to sort it out i guess...

Hi,

Just a brief note to comment about how close thread-spacing appears to be depending on materials...

Nylon Pantyhose: as "opaque" as paper in the upper section (resists 94 % alcohol bath for days)
Permanent Coffee Filter: convenient (coaser than pantyhose legs)
Paper Coffee Filter: affordable (the tightest i could find, though it was bleached)
Cheese Cloth: avoid (too loose compared to the above)

It seems i'll be using my Permanent Coffee Filters with Nylon Pantyhose containment inside, that should do it. Now there's distilled water i still need to get, by chance the sidewalks slowly resurface at last!...

I use fine cotton tissues (not the disposables ones), that I wash with clean products. I'm totally searching for something better but its the most easy, clean and efficient for me as far as i know

Hello there!

M'well... I could use multiple cheese cloth layers, i suppose, but this ABV has been grinded into a powder so i'll go with the solution mentioned above since i won't put boiling water in there anyway. Otherwise, with cheese cloth, i'd probably collect sediments in between the sheets i suppose.

There's no hurry in any case, as i've been taking all the time i need to let the idea "simmer" very sloooooowly, so to speak...

I've brought back 2 gallons of demineralized water but i figure the "tea" is going to prove so harsh during the 1st few days there's no point using that right away. So i guess i'll keep that for the finishing touch... Today it's plain vented tap-water!

Euh...

Today it's plain vented tap-water!

This is going to be true only for the green stuff i kept in the freezer since my last AM2... I had a last minute change of mind so the ABV will get demineralized water instead. Hence i'm running a side-by-side test here, with green leaves material soaked in tap-water on one hand and HerbalAire ABV in demineralized water on the other. Here's a picture of the later:

Something else i modified in action is what part of the nylon pantyhose i used as we see both legs here (the 1st one covers the other to form a dual layer). The pair of permanent coffee filters pictured previously is presently enclosing my ABV so i won't be causing much more turbulence while changing the water tomorrow and thereafter. Since it wouldn't soak i found necessary to maintain that ABV down with a styrofoam bowl (cuts in the bowl allow free water circulation). This container is a 2 liters ice cream bucket and its top lid appears to be air-tight, i placed it somewhere dark at about 22 °C. I hope all the air would have escaped by then...

Lots of stuff came out after just 1 rince:

I'm hoping that's not just dye from the pantyhose textile!...

Update.

This isn't going to work. The resulting liquid has an intense tar smell which tells me this has been too much trouble already, probably because the HerbalAire just left no goodies behind in the 1st place!

Best case scenario you could've ended up with like 1/8th of oil from all of it, you could of went the butter route as well.

Butter or cooking oil would of been best IMO. I was able to get some great olive oil out of about an ounce of AVB.

Hi,

I didn't throw anything away, it's just evaporating very slowly in a dark place. But quite honnestly i prefer reclaiming from my glass tubes than spent matter... I've also kept a sample of the dark-orange osmosis water, this one could go to the freezer in order to scoop away the ice i suppose. We'll see but that wasn't worth the cost in my case so far, perhaps time will tell differently.

Hey Egzoset,

I was talking to OF in the, I believe, Persia thread about this. He told me that everclear is just ethanol and water distilled at the azeotrope, nothing added. It is just lab grade ethanol with a liquor stamp for taxes.

Ah, perhaps that's where all the confusing information comes from: they sell it as a liquor...

Well, i get 94 % concentrated alcohol at my local liquor store too but it was always clear to me there's nothing else in it but some water.

Thank you.

If you want to speed up the process, boil some water in a pot and place your extraction container on top. Opening a window or turning on the hood fan will prevent any chance of catching your kitchen on fire. If the liquid smells bad, then the extract will definitely taste bad, so putting the oil in capsules might be your best bet for consumption.

Salutations Bouldorado,

Now perhaps it's about time i conclude my little experiment...

If you want to speed up the process...

Thanks but...

A solid weighting approximately 0.5 g resulted from slow evaporation (at room temperature in a dark place) and its still utterly repulsive because of the intense cauldron/tar odour: its "perfume" is that of an ashtray...

LITERALLY!!

E.G., not worth the trouble...

I'd test that (with a twist) on my smelly pebble if i didn't think i've only managed to extract toxic waste!...

Yet, there's always more HA ABV accumulating in a jar and i happend to have some good (USDA "Organic") coconut oil, Soy Lecithin and capsules... So, lets say i do intend to give it a thought or two, eventually, in case this alternative method might work better.

In any case here's the lecithin (potentiator) label with a related link:

I just made some abv capsules actually. Ground it into a fine powder, mixed with some olive oil and heated to extract into the oil, then placed into the caps with a syringe. The mess and abv loss was minimal and now, three hours later, I'm feeling quite alright :smug:.
