I don't often start threads, especially ones like this, but this is compelling (text from LiveLeak):

Judge Napolitano: How to get fired from Fox in under 5 mins

Asking questions as Judge Andrew Napolitano did in a recent broadcast on his now cancelled daily show may very well be the reason behind his recent dismissal from Fox. Though specific details are hard to come by because the Judge has yet to give any interviews on the matter, it’s believed that his refusal to bow to commonly manufactured media narratives is among one of several key reasons he his no longer with the network.

The following 5-Minute Speech that Got Napolitano Fired from Fox News is one that should not only be forwarded and shared with every single man, woman and child in this country, but taught and expounded upon in every social studies, civics and government class from first grade through college.

Yup, I bet after that segment, that Fox got flooded with emails and phone calls from outraged viewers declaring blasphemy.

If that was the case, those viewers weren't listening very well, were they?

Great segment.

I don't think they do "listen very well" for if they did, they sure as hell wouldn't keep feeding themselves a steady diet of Fox News.

Napolitano questioned just about everyone, BUT, he questioned their messiah, Ronald Reagen, and THAT is conservative blasphemy.

Yeah. It's funny. My next door neighbor is a staunch conservative Republican. Watches Fox religiously. So a few months ago, there was a segment on 60 Minutes that I thought he might be interested in, so I mentioned it to him that he should tune in next week because they were going to repeat it, and he just shook his head and said, "Naw, I don't watch that crap".

I'm a liberal Democrat, but I watch Fox News for a few reasons. One, is that I'm kinda of a news junkie and I want to get my information from diverging sources so I can get varying opinions. There have been times that I have heard something on Fox News that I haven't heard anywhere else, that made me go..............hmmmmmm, he/she has a point. The other reason is for a bit of comic relief.
But it has been my experience that those conservatives who watch Fox News, that that is ALL the news they watch. They don't want to expose themselves to anything that may conflict with their views on things, and so, they drink the Fox News Kool Aide...........and, that is all they know. Scary.......

There is a book I think you would find interesting that explains this behaviour in a way that is both entertaining and depressing. It's an easy read and it's a free PDF. I give you The Authoritarians by Robert Altemeyer. I recommend it highly.

Lwien - I know people EXACTLY like that. It's blissful ignorance and I feel ya on getting news from a variety of sources. It's simple diversification, just like wealth management and investing. If one source/stock sucks heck at least all your eggs aren't in the that one basket.

Pakalolo - Thanks for that book. I downloaded the PDF and I'll throw it on my iPad. I am especially interested to read it as the author is a psychologist and that's my background :)

He demonstrates pretty conclusively that 25-35% of people will always fit that mold. I always knew these people existed but Altemeyer quantifies them. He also shows that the people who you least want to have power are the ones who seek it most aggressively and are most likely to acquire it. This is the human condition, which is why I called it depressing.

It seems to me that liberalisim and conservetaisim is soooooo much more than must mere politics, but is, in fact a lifestye that more or less dictates our world view on things.

It has been my experience, that in general, liberals live in a world of gray. That they are open to new ideas and concepts and are willing to change their point of view on things if something challenges it and proves worthy of that change.

Conservatives, on the other hand, by and large, resist change. Rather than living in a world of grays, they live in a world of absolutes, that is, black and white and if anything or anyone challenges that black or white point of view, rather than look at an opposing opinion objectively, they will attack it.

I know. I'm generalizing here and it's something that I admonish others for doing, but I am only relaying my experience.

Pakalolo - You are right. Unfortunately the personality traits classified as antisocial, sociopathic and/or aggressive are often the type that are drawn to acquiring power through biz and/or politics. We were talking about that in a psych class that in the business world or Wall Street there are a statistically higher percentage of sociopaths than the general population.

I like to touch upon the recession... It's largely a case of eminent executives, corporations and people in power who lack a degree of empathy. These people are responsible for the financial crisis, environmental destruction etc. It's that rape and pillage mentality that seeps it's way into the mind of our youth and culture that is the problem. "Damn everyone else I'mma make my cash." "Let's sell sub prime mortgages" "Lets dump waste to save cash" "Let's exploit third world countries for a profit"

Just look to popular culture, what our American society values etc. I just hope this mentality is changing in the 21st century. Greed is a disease propagated through media, culture, "societal values," etc. Greed isn't good, creating value for society is good, if one makes some money along the way that's great. The mindless and blind pursuit of excessive money (aka resources) is what is harming this society. Since when has the American Dream been a McMansion and a beach house, 5 cars, a few divorces and heart attacks? We should be seeking health and happiness, with them come balance... I could go on for days.

Lwien - You are on point once again. Sometimes I wish you would say something I disagree with, just so I can disagree with you lol. I'm a registered independent and I think that the problem lies in the polar extremes... Loony-ass libs and racist republicans. Since liberals tend to be more socially minded than fiscally minded, a lot of times I find them more bearable.

Ultimately I just wish like in the video we didn't have to see the world in binary and could open our eyes to political alternatives. We also have to realize that in this world there probably are more uneducated people than educated. I don't mean formal education (schooling, college) either. Who breeds more, those with resources or those in poverty? Who will be an educated voter? The movie Idiocracy comes to mind. Depressing.
